Well, there are really all sorts of possibilities.

    To name a few:

    - Snoke had spies in the Empire
    - Snoke was able to access transmissions regarding the Empire.
    - Snoke was able to sense these occurrences through his obvious mastery of the Force.

And again, I already stated it's entirely possible that Snoke was in the Empire during that time, despite originating in the UR. Of course, that would still beg an explanation as to how or why he knew about the more specifics of those confrontations...

In all that cases Imperial security was severily breached.
And if he was not under Imperial command than Palpatine and Vader failed to counter the treat.

He could be leader of alien invading force ( which i also supecteD in one thread).
I mean why would such lone old master of Dark side take engagement of that sort just after Palps and Vader died?.

Right, I mean, no matter what, Imperial Security was clearly breached.

Now, take into account something else- Snoke is confirmed to be humanoid, but not human. The Empire clearly is racist toward nonhuman species. Even if Snoke had been involved directly with the Empire, like Thrawn, he clearly would have been quite conspicuous.

    You summarized many important problems.

Exactly, it is almost secure to exclude possibility for instance that Palpatine allowed some alien to be his Dark side prophet, a dark side wielder just about next to his and Vader's level.
He did had Mas Amedda (that blue alien adviser with horns) but Amedda was polthrone and puppet who was no threat in any way while been 110+% loyal and was doing everything to please Palps, while been quite able in running every days polithics on behalf of Palps.

Palpatine also allowed Thrawn to rise in the Imperial ranks, but Thrawn race was considered near human ( slightly more advanced, by evolution from human race). Also Thrawn had vital information about unknown Regions. And Thrawn was not force sensitive so no any threat to Palpatine and Vader souveren rule.

So by human racist theory we can exclude Snoke, as a defined alien , was inside Imperial ranks as Powerfull dark sider.

Important thing, we can securely exclude one possibility.

I feel that one way to take this answer is Snoke isn't really a major character that will be focused on. We have had one movie we haven't learned much about. Doesn't seem way may learn a lot more with TLJ. If he was meant to be a major character, we would probably know more with each director growing the character. As @Pastor Barndog said, Supreme Leader Snoke may just be that, Leader Snoke. If his arc is meant to be similar to the Emporer, then he isn't the focus and we will not learn much more other than he is the feared leader that falls. Anything else will be left for the EU.

He has to be a major player. He's connected to Ben Solo and Luke. Just because Rian doesn't delve too deeply into his character doesn't mean anything. I' sure Rian will give us enough to chew on until 9.

He might be important as an obstacle for Kylo the primary antagonist to overcome to move from apprentice to Supreme Leader.

That may be true or they are simply misleading us to have us lower our guard so they can give us a mind blowing reveal just like Lucas did in TESB.

Awe, you beat me to it @Canadian Ronin. I was have been thinking the same thing. Snoke coming from the Unkown Regions makes sense except for the fact he supposedly saw the rise and fall of the Empire. I wouldn't think the would have run Holonet Cable out that far for him to get the news. I would think he needed to be somewhere in the known galaxy to get that information.

I've said that myself. If seems like they knew Snoke somewhere along the way. Ben would have probably been in contact to get him to turn. Not just from some possible contact in the womb.

Kylo has more obstacles to deal with, before he comes to Snoke agenda.

    1. First he must beat the girl.

2.Than he must clear the things with Luke ( or if he is clever avoid entaglement with angry Luke)

3.He must make Hux MIA , or his strangled and many times cut corps make to look like an accident.:p

Only after those tasks can Kylo focus on dethroning Snoke.

Kylo is the anti-Luke. Luke was poor Kylo is an aristocrat son of a general. Luke lived in obscurity, Ben was given training. In Luke's moment of trial to become a Jedi he threw his sabre aside and refused to kill his father, Kylo in his moment of testing killed his father. Kylo has taken the villains journey. He has to face now it failed to give him power to defeat the girl. It has not ended his internal struggle. Snoke's training serves Snoke. Kylo was warned that Snoke is just using him. My guess is Snoke is to over confident to see his betrayal coming.

That's possible, and may have totally defined his character (or lack thereof) in another time or place.

But we live in an age where people are very vocal on social media about Snoke, just as they are about Phasma. We can already see them beginning to address the Phasma issue, but for Snoke it seems that they may simply be holding back.

Trust me, they've had two movies to make while being very aware how curious the public is about the Supreme Leader. They should know better than to disappoint.

Kylo is a victim of the old damaged Dark side alien humanoid, who became so powerfull that only thing he was afraid of was loosing his power. So he de-facto kidnapped one Skywalker family member , influencing him from the time he was fetus in his mother's womb. It was far more efficiend but in fact the same thing his apprentice made with Kylo's grandfather, Anakin.
He will however meet his destiny as he prophecised himself that Force can strike back on him .
He escaped once form this strike-back, by a master fool , leaving his apprentice to kill him, paying his life debt to the Force, cheating. But his lust for power and fear he will loose it brought him in the same place his apprentice once was, there , face-to face with the Will of the Force, again.

That is the only story and ultimate story that will satissfy my intelect, anything else they brought, is already dwarfed by the story I just summarized and I hope it will be compensated by the other aspects of the film that I will certainly enjoy with my kids.

I think you had better be prepared for disappointment then because I don't think they are going wher you want them to go.

Kylo Ren is a total emotional mess he is almost the complete opposite of Anakin.
Plus all this Snoke corrupted Ben from the start & that he was essentially born evil makes Ben a total waste of a character as it takes away all his agency's for me it is a far better story that Ben was slowly seduced over years to the dark side by Snoke.

However, Kylo has been influenced even before his birth, as a fetus.(I am sure in this from the canon novels, some peple are questioning this, but is says so in the novels).

Kylo is a victim of Snoke.Just like his grandfather was a victim of Palpatine.Though Kylo is a dirrect unconscious victim.

Kylo is now a patricidal (parent-killing) monster, not a character we would expect to be justiffied if he is not a victim.

Kylo can be justiffied by only one thing, by the fact he was unconscius victim of Snoke from the start of his life (fact rooted in the books already), so his redemption will justiffy the fact he killed Han, who was not just his father , but one of most beloved characters of Star Wars universe.

That assumes 1- that they want to follow the OT formula with the antagonists. Meaning Kylo NEEDS an Emperor. 2- it assumes that Kylo will be redeemed therefore cannot be the primary antagonist.

I don't like putting restaints on stories before they are told. You sound like you have set yourself up for dissapointment. There are still many places they can go.

I suspect this is another one of those those things that's changed during production of the film. If I remember correctly the forceback once included an image of a boy. That may have been removed by request from RJ. Snoke is likely some super dark side user from the Unknown Regions. This is being set up in Thrawn and the Aftermath books. His influence on Ben could be explained any number of ways. The story group has left if vague on purpose.

It will be nice and easy if there was not one single crossroad event in this entire story,

    This:

Kylo killed his father, pushed to do it without a doubt by Snoke.

    Kylo is blody patricidal monster.

From that point Kylo has only 2 resolutions, at least by my logic.

    1. Kylo ends like most monstruous Dark character in history of Star Wars, a Skawalker that ends as ultimate evil master who kiled his father and one of greatest and most beloved heroes, in fact finished both Skywalker and Solo family by turning himself, and the galaxy, to the darkness.

2.He is a victim of powerfull Snoke, who literally abducted him, picked him before his birth(as Lea confirms). If he returns to light from this point, he indeed will be greatest hero, as this will be acheievement worth of his grandfather.(actually greater).

I am sure they will not disappoint. However, I'm not sure how much of today's social media drives the story line and how much they pay attention to it compared to the OT era. Think it is hard to tell if the 'Phasma issue" is directly related to social media or just part of the developing story line.

Regardless whether the story goes in the direction you and others seem to desperately want, I hope you can keep an openness to other possibilities and enjoy the ST either way.

I don't think people are questioning what is in the novels, but it is more questioning the speculation as to how much he was influenced and if Lea was even correct about it being Snoke. From what I remember, Ben stirred and was restless in the womb but it hasn't been played out as to what was happening to him.. anything past speculation anyway.

I somehow missed that part where he was abducted. I know in Bloodlines he was with Luke and wasn't born yet in the Aftermath novels. I admit I haven't read all of the newer novels yet, which one was he abducted in.
