What a lot of people don't understand is that Snoke is entirely new from OUTSIDE of the galaxy although he is aware of the vents of TGFFA .

@AstromechRecords: this, and it's much more obvious and way creepier in the book when Snoke lectures Ren about Vader's fall and you know he's being not-at-all-subtle about it as a warning.

Yeah:

- he has blue eyes

Right here are no other details. We don't know how he is connected. We don't know if he hugs trees. We don't know if he is a cripple. He did stand up.

 

If Snokey ends up where I suspect that he will, Tree-hugger will be the least of my concerns.

We do know he's at least half-crippled, because he sat his ass right back down.

if there's any potential reference to Snoke in Life Debt, i'm thinking it's the opera Rax refers to, the Cantata of Cora Vessora: about a witch from beyond the reaches who would neither choose Light nor Dark, so warred with both the Sith and Jedi.

thought that was a curious story for Rax to tell as it has nothing otherwise to do with anything.

Well, this certainly rings a bell.

What's the chances this has a connection to Rey's abandonment on Jakku? I'm not saying that he will turn out to be Rey's father (although imagine that ), but certainly that he knows what it's like for a child to spend over a decade growing up in difficult circumstances on Jakku, therefore maybe he was responsible for Rey's childhood?

2 other things sprung out in my mind about Rax from reading the OP:

• He wants to indoctrinate children and grow them into future soldiers.
• He worked alongside a woman called Rae Sloane. Rae = Rey?? Ok, I'm stretching here.

Anyway, here's a possible theory on Rax.

Finn and Rey are about the same age right? Well, what if Rey was originally meant to become a stormtrooper like Finn after her parents where killed by the first order, but Rax (maybe with the aid of Snoke or maybe he is indeed Snoke) soon realised how exceptionally gifted this child was with the force. So Rax knew that Jakku was the perfect isolated spot to hide a gifted force child from the clutches of the Jedi - the inverse of Obi-Wan hiding Luke from the Sith. Rax planned for Rey to join the dark side/first order in the future when the force had awoken inside her and after Luke Skywalker had been eliminated, but obviously that plan backfired.
