My comment was slightly in jest. I’m not sure how long you were on these boards before joining, but years ago, back before TFA was even released, there was a thread that went on hundreds of pages debating Plagueis. My post was in reference to that.

However, for discussion sake, Plagueis did not become a developed character until Luceno’s novel (which is not canon so one could argue he isn’t not really all that developed any more. I’m not going to do that). Initially he was mentioned by Sideous as a tool manipulate Anakin and from a storytelling standpoint further Anakin’s arc.

Snoke can be further developed in a novel where we get to see his motivations just like Plagueis was. I suspect that once the ST is done we are likely going to see a Snoke novel.

A line of dialog mentioning the name, that he could stop people from dying, and couldn't save himself is a developed character?

Hell, I always believed the whole thing was a manipulative lie. There is no character (or it might be but little reason to believe such other than want to) and so no way anyone believes the lone of exposition is a developed character with motivations.

At most the concept of a Plagueis is a motivation tool to give Anakin some excuse for his sloppily executed fall but he is in no way a character. Lobot is far more of a character than this figment and Lobot is almost just background.
