In tfa, Snoke does refer to Luke as 'the Last Jedi', but he also follows with the new Jedi rising(plural). So the episode 8 title could be both singular and Plural, but I for one hope Luke knows of a few other Jedi in hiding that can rise against the New Order. What do you guys think?

I think he, like the title, is just referring to Luke - the last jedi. And should Luke return, as Rey and co will plea with him to do, then he can create a new Jedi Order. The new Jedi will rise.

I don't think for a second we will see a different light side/Jedi faction, Luke be killed off or be the actual last Jedi etc.

The crawl of TFA pretty much confirms that Luke is the last Jedi:

I think Snoke meant Luke will train new Jedi after his return.

"If Skywalker (=>The Last Jedi) returns, the new Jedi (=> Rey) will rise."

It's a nice idea, but I think LF wants to end the era of the old Jedi-Order. At the end of EPIX a new kind of Jedi / force users will be established (=> the new Jedi will rise).

I think if Jedi is plural in the title it is because Rey becomes a Jedi by the end of the film. Luke and Rey would then be the Last Jedi (plural). I don't think there are any former students in hiding some where. Snoke is saying that if Luke comes back he will rebuild the Jedi. As stated in the crawl Luke is the last Jedi. I think this is the prime interpretation of the title. That being said, if there is a time jump between VIII and IX, we could see some new Jediin training in IX

The question comes does Lucasfilm have the balls to get rid of the term Jedi as Jedi and SW are almost synonymous

I have hope that Kelly Marie Tran is playing a surviving Jedi student of Luke, I'd absolutely love that!!

Does Snoke really say "THE new Jedi will rise"? I thought he said "THEN new Jedi would rise", meaning Luke would train new Jedi. What does the script or novel say?

EDIT - OK, I just watched this scene on blu-ray with the subtitles on. Snoke does say "the", not "then." Shortly after this, Snoke gives the "There has been an awakening" line. I think he is referring to Rey with both of these lines. I think this indicates that he is aware of Rey and who she is. I have also always believed that Kylo knows of Rey and who she is.
