It think Snoke trusts no one.

I think his closest body guards are not humanoid beings at all.

But an advanced sentinel droids originating from ancient Predori technology, or something like that joint with the evolution of Palpatine's project of creation of sentinel droids.

I noted that all Pretorian guards are faceless.

Also, all guards have arms like a skeletal spines.

The reference of existance of such droids is from Aftermath :Life Debt, where, in an ancient crashed Predori ship (from ancient civilization ) heroes fight against strange droids.

Here is their description.Aftermath Life debt.

I have a feeling what we see is a tip of an iceberg of wast droid army used by Snoke mainly as a work force, those one been most advanced model used for his protection.

Such droids are also mentioned in the Aftermath Empire's end.
The sentinel droids were created as part of the Contigency plan by Emperor Palpatine. Most of them were merely messengers: they appeared, verified the identity of the message's recipient, gave commands, and left. The ones reserved for Gallius Rax, however, were much more independent and closer to actual sentience. They were also capable of piloting starships and of killing intruders when protecting secret assets.

But the guards arms bend at the elbows in all pictures. In the book the skeletal arms have a joint at each segment.

They might be droids, they might even be Predori, though there have been other fighting droids that work just fine.

The visors have numerous horizontal lines so its possible they are helmets.

I think its too soon to make that kind of call.

Could possibly be droids... but could simply be body armor too. Kinda hard to tell at this point.

One thing puzzles me the most.

Their unique arms armor layout, and all of tham have same arms layout .

Compared to classic armor made for humanoids this armor for arms has to many joints.
Humanoids have shoulder, elbow, and wrist joint, and the armor is designed to enable movement of those 3 joints respectively, so there are 3 joints in the amor.

Armor for the ams we see in Pretorian guard is designd to enable not just natural radius of movement but also unnatural radius of movement of the arms, like their arms can move in any direction, not just flexion in the elbow but also this armor could allow movement back side....in all directions.
Of course I can be wrong but that puzzles me.

On the other hand, difference in their helmets point to individuality.

It will be interesting to see them in the film.

You are assuming each segment is a joint. I have yet to see any movement beyond the norm.

Probably the amount of lightthat comes in is similar to what comes through a fencer's helmet.

    ummm...are you sure?
    Look at this again...

the red parts look pretty solid to me, and much wider than the wire used for the fencer's helmet?

It's probably like those windows where you see outside perfectly, but a person looking back can hardly see anything.

    My perspective:

You I believe are assuming they have normal joints.Since you are human(I am to do not worry)you assume they flex arms just in elbow. Certainly, even augmented by the fact there could be human actors in this suits for promo photos(some film scenes are maybe not, but CGI).
However look this gradual semi-circular flexion of the hand more closely.
Also, all Guards are different in almost all aspects except this arms, same arms like serrialy manufactured.

I have a feeling what we see is a tip of an iceberg of wast droid army used by Snoke as mainly as a work force, those one been most advanced model used for his protection.

I wish we had combat droids of some sort. But that would be too "prequelish", so we can't have that! :(

    ?

For anyone who read central New Canon novels(Aftermath trilogy) we are more than informed that advanced combat robotics is on its way.

Already mentioned here are faceless droids from Predori.

But to me and many others the greatest star of the New Canon books is weird advanced crazy combat droid.

    Mr.Bones.

averyone say Hi to Mr Bones

There look to be horizontal lines which might be open slits not inlike the fencing mask.

I understand what you are saying. But there are no pictures with them with joints other than wrist or elbow.

Also wouldn't this be obvious among the toys I don't have any but if the action figures have normal joints then its very likely that the film version has normal arms.

    That is ok
I myself started to read SW books in search for clues about sequel trilogy. But I found great fun in reading also.
Books are great.I enjoyed Aftermath trilogy, and the last book in trilogy is just awsome,if they ever put Battle of Jakku descrubed in the book on the film it will be most epic battle in any SF film ever.

I don't think that we need to find a functional reason as to how a humanoid can see out of those helmets. This is Star Wars. We have the Force, lightsabers, blaster pistols, tractor beams, hyperspace and a myriad of other technologies that, for me, say that it is completely possible that something could allow humanoids to see from inside those helmets.
