I'm interested to see how they can get it to fit Star Wars...

 

There's a bunch of Islands around Dubrovnik. Maybe they'll go there to film on these.

BTW, it's one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Slap some CG on top and it may feel more 'Star Wars-y'. Besides they may only be filming in specific buildings or locations there.

 

it was a dream to see the Star Wars filming in my own country.

This will either be the best or the worst thing for me. I will either be there, or not, watching helplessly from afar as it rolls out (which is more likely scenario :/). I mean damn, why It always has to be Dubrovnik, literally the most expensive and most distant city in the country. There are plenty of other locations ideal for SW setting. The bunch of castles and ancient ruins surrounded by hills and forests (closer to the capital) for example are ideal for Jedi ruins or something connected to Knights of Ren, not to mention paradise-like Plitvice Lakes (waterfalls everywhere!), Krka etc.

Still, I'm very happy for them. To see Star Wars filming in Croatia is really something special.

But yes, still there are plenty of other locations in Croatia that could make their place in the Star Wars universe, here are some of those examples:

Brijuni (Looking for expansion for Ach-To? Well, look no further.)


A Cave on Mljet, near Dubrovnik (It is named after the legend of Odysseus who was allegedly shipwrecked near the cave and remained “trapped” because of the nymph Calypso, who ruled the island.)

This castle ruin is near the capital, in the city of Samobor. It has some LOTR vibe to it though. It was nearly undefeated fortress on a very large hill once upon a time, I just walked up there and it took quite some time to reach it but it was well worth it.


I could go on and on...

 

The fortifications and buildings in Dubrovnik are early modern. But I can imagine them filming on more locations on the Dalmatic coast. Croatia is a marvelous space. The spires of Cappadocia (Turkey) are situated in central Anatolia and have been inhabited since classical antiquity. Though Cappadocia does have some security issues at the moment, but not more than Abu Dhabi. My guess is they're skipping these Cappadocian spires:

Dubrovnik as Luke's jedi academy?

 

I was thinking something along those lines... reusing the whole "exotic city" concept they had in mind for TFA before ultimately dropping it in favour of the Castle.

Though I would like to see it go more towards the Star Wars land concept:

Pablo Hidalgo has requested people stop referring to it as an "academy."
There is/was no Jedi academy, just Luke relocating to a Temple to train a students in the ways of the Force.

That definitely looks like it. But those rock features are based on east asia I believe. But they do have a cappadocian feel to them. There is also this concept art for the new disney park which shows 3 or 4 first order soldiers running through a bazar like environment. A similar art piece can also be found in The Art of Star Wars. Only then it is concept Finn and Rey running through the bazar. "Darth Vader's Castle" would be awesome though. One of the few ideas I really liked about the ditched post-ROTJ canon.

Im glad to hear that. Never liked the word ,,academy" when refering to the new jedi temple (despite JK: JA is a great game). It always felt very cheap and too earthy to me.

 

Looks awesome! Locations haven't been a problem in the past, this looks like another home run. Can't wait to see it in context!

 

Dubrovnik reminds me of Naboo. I think it works perfectly.
