New set pieces look like naboo

 

Let's see the first good Naboo Portration in a SW movie hopefully!

 

Naboo looked great in every Star Wars movie.

 

Two years ago I have been in the most alien landscape that I saw in my life. The White Desert in Egypt. Amazing place, wish they could fit another desert planet to the saga....hehehehe

 

Based on set pictures, I can see the city serving as a safe haven for the Republic.

 

There are a few buildings in there that are similar to the type of architecture that inspired Naboo but there's really not a lot of that and there's a mix of many different kinds of architecture throughout the place from many different periods, most of which is Gothic and doesn't look a thing like the real world Italian renaissance period architecture that inspired Naboo, but looks Germanic obviously because it was built by Germanic people (hence why they use these locations for Game of Thrones).

Anyways, I highly doubt we're seeing Naboo here, more likely they're using this location to stand in for Ahch-To if it's an existing location.

 

Looks like Naboo to me. (And it's not that far from where "Naboo" is.)

I hope it is Naboo if it's that similar looking on film.

 

It might be Akiva, from Aftermath... isn't that where Luke's/Anakins's lightsaber turned up?

 

I hate naboo its where the most annoying star wars character in history was from!!!!

In short:
- Around 200 locals will be engaged in filming, most of them are from Dubrovnik and already have filming experience in other productions (Game of Thrones)
- Filming will take place during the night

So we have a night scenes shooting between 09th and 17th March
When we get the information about the casting, I think that we will have a general idea what the scene is about.

 

Naboo was nice. I really would love to see Naboo again. You have bad memories about Naboo because of the Prequels? How about new warmier and happy new ones? I won´t be mad if its a new Planet...Both are equally a win in my book.

Are you aware of a fact that Croatia is Mediterranean country. Italy and Croatia are also an neighboring countries. They share border on Adriatic sea.
Croatian island of Palagruza is located only 53 km from Italy mainland.
They have very similar architecture.


Dubrovnik is founded in the 7th century by Croats and Greeks.
At the beginning there where 2 cities. Croat ''Dubrava'' at the shore and Greek ''Laus'' on the Island.
In the 12th century two cities ''Dubrava'' and ''Laus'' merged into one city ''Ragusa/Dubrovnik''.
Sea canal between 2 cities is filled and become the main street ''Stradun''.



Greeks from Laus where assimilated in Croatian culture.

From 14-19th century Dubrovnik area was independent wealthy country called ''The Republic of Ragusa''.
It was one of several croatian republics ( different croatian tribes ).

Also Venice is on the north of Adriatic, Dubrovnik is on the South of Adriatic near southern Italy.



Dubrovnik has Mediterranean culture. Very similar to other Mediterranean countries.

Also Dubrovnik got its final look after 1667. earthquake. City was rebuild in Baroque style.

Dubrovnik can be used for Naboo. Very similar look, but it can be used for Ahch-To also. Because Croatia has 1300+ islands.

 

Saw today a video in Croatian of a female reporter.She was the narrative ..while showing some short footage of the sets being worked with.She said all the work force where domestic and that the "stones" added are made of foam and then painted to look like real stones originally part of the structures.The only real spoilery she revealed where rumour about what planet this was meant to take place on.She said that it is the planet of Luke Skywalker,which I interpreted being the planet that we see Rey find Luke in TFA.Again this is only a rumour so take it with a pinch of salt.

Uh, this city was originally part of the Ostrogoth Kingdom, the Goths were Germanic people, and their styling is prevalent in the architecture from most of the images you posted here in fact. Showing pictures of the same buildings from different angles doesn't help your cause, even those buildings don't look like Naboo, motifs are different, colors are different, etc. And last I checked Naboo wasn't planet of faux modern Tuscan architecture with a sub-tropical Mediterranean environment.

Also, have you seen the photos from the the actual sets they're building? Quite obviously not Naboo. Literally the only similarity is the color of the stone. Don't mean to burst your bubble but even if there are some suitable locations that could be used for Naboo, it isn't like they're using the entire city and I'd wager the odds of these filmlmakers wanting to revisiting that planet and having any reason to being slim to not at all.

Dubrovnik is built by croats.
The city was established in the 7th century ( croat Dubrava and greek Laus ). Joined city in 12th century.
But all buildings in its final state are built by croats. Style of the buildings is in Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. Same as in its neighboring country Italy.

I know everything about this, because I'am from Dubrovnik and I know everything about my home.

As for Ostrogoth Kingdom, are you aware of the fact that both Italy and Croatia where part of that kindom that last for only 60 years. From 493–553.
Dubrovnik did not exist in that time period.
Byzantine Empire was in war with Ostrogoth Kingdom. Ostrogoth were defeated, and area of today Croatia was populated with Croats by Byzantine Empire to protect that area from Ostrogoth and Avars.

 

Wow. I read Dubrovnik and immediately the "Game of Thrones" intro theme starts playing in my head.

But definitely sounds good, even if it ends up being Naboo. In the new canon - aside from the PT - Naboo is mentioned at least twice in the comics - Princess Leia and Shattered Empire - and if they decide to include it in the ST, that won't be a problem for me. If it ends up being another planet, it's alright.
