Cause' I mean she ain't dead, and an off screen death would feel really lame especially after the send offs Han and Luke got.

yeh i have no idea how its going to be handled and fear that, like you say, an offscreen death is going to occur.
tbh, the perfect moment has already been missed. the moment just before Super Leia happened, that would have been a great send off... but now... yeh, no idea. to make a guess, maybe they had some extra scenes from TFA/TLJ for us for IX. or perhaps they will use CGI (i recall only hearing they wont use CGI for any parts from TLJ in post-production) - and i mean hey, they did it with Rogue One already... to go on with the guess work, id say itll be similar to the missed opportunity, a big explosion in space will occur, perhaps whilst the 'rebels' (ugh, they arent rebels) are on the move from Crait to the remaining crew of the Republic, which were supposed to be reinforcements.

I think they could do a 5-10 year time jump where the Rebels have been on the run for may years and it got all to much for Leia who's son has an iron grip on the galaxy?

There will be a time jump of 5 - 10 years. The spark of the Resistance will have grown into a conflagration. Kylo Ren will have solidified his place as Supreme Leader. Rey will be a legend in her own right. Poe will lead the Resistance and Finn will probably be some sort of wildcard, adrift in space on a mission only he knows. And Leia will be gone...

    Or not.

Disney is the most powerful movie studio probably ever. I thought what they did with bringing Leia and Tarkin back with Light and Magic was very realistic. I actually thought it was just two new actors in loads of makeup. The people who say it was bad animation well first off they're objectively wrong and secondly, they probably read something about it before seeing the movie. As someone who wasn't expecting animation, I could not tell. And technology improves quickly. With the resources available to Disney they could stun the world and debut something like we've never seen before in regards to Leia

But I mostly expect there to be a time lapse

Regarding Carrie Fisher it's been officially stated from LFL via Kathleen Kennedy that no CGI or other use of unused footage will be used.

I am willing to bet real money IX is several years in the future and begins with Leia's funeral.

She gets killed in the opening crawl. Her death inspires the resistance to unite.

But Holdo died and I thought that would have inspired the rebellion as well as what Luke did on Crait...I think they will simply ignore Leia

Holdo's sacrifice wasn't known to the rest of the rebellion. Neither was Luke's really. Say they find out though, it seems Holdo isn't that likeable, and Luke was the guy who abandoned them to the last second and got them in this mess. Leia dying, the relentless leader, the one who has always believed in the rebellion and resistance, that would shake people to the core, and force them to be confronted with the reality that they need to step up and honor her sacrifice.

Wasn't most of the resistance dead by that point though? Only the survivors saw what they did

I agree on the time laps, I could see 3 to 5 years but I think 10 years would be too long of a gap for Episode 9. That movie comes out in 2 years time, so the actors won't have time to age properly without using CGI or makeup if it was a 10 year gap.

There virtually has to be a time lapse. Unless there's a wide shot of the falcon while Leia is dying inside. They aren't showing her in the movie.

Since it looks like Leia is ready to hand off the Resistance leadership to Poe, Leia could be more of a diplomat, off trying to gather support for the cause. I believe there is a scene from TFA of Leia negotiating with the Hutts for their support that they never used - although I don't know if it was filmed or not. Just a shame that we never got a Kylo-Leia scene.

My prediction is that they will not kill her off screen. The character is too iconic for that kind of treatment. My guess is that the opening crawl will mention her absence (she's on a mission, further recovery from her jog in space, etc) and is unavailable. After Episode IX her story will be completed in another media form such as comic, books or future animate show that replaces Rebels.

This is not what I want but unfortunately the tragic incidents of real life don't leave many choices.

A time skip is likely so off screen death or extra TLJ footage is used to kill her the first 10 minutes or so of IX.

I think a funeral scene at the onset would be a good and respectful way to do it... I do think they would have been best off re-editing/doing some re-shoots on The Last Jedi to make Leia either die in the space scene (and we could avoid the horribly executed flying through space), or have her be the one to pilot the Raddus into The Supremacy with the Hyperspace crash.

Anything but re-casting... there is no way the majority of fans will accept another actress as Leia... I think even Han in the "Solo" anthology film will not convince many, and that is a "younger" Han Solo.... why oh why didn't they go with Anthony Ingruber....

As far as I know, Carrie had already filmed some scenes for episode 9. For all we know, the character was to be killed off anyway and those scenes may already be in the bag. If not I'm sure we will see that she's on some ship that will be destroyed or something along those lines. It will be hard to give the character a really touching send off, interesting to see what they'll come up with.

It may be easy to tie in her death with the injuries she received during TLJ.

Hmm... how can that be possible if J.J. Abrams has only pitched his treatment for Episode 9 today?
