So I watched the second trailer when it was released, and as soon as I saw Luke's hand it made me think of the cyborg concept art. I Googled the pictures and gave them another look and noticed that in the three I saw only the right hand of the cyborg is shown, and they're all wearing a robe.

    Soo... What if it's Luke?

I know there's not a lot there but it's just a thought. Has this been touched on in another thread? Or is this an
early concept for Ren or something?

The concept art of the cyborg is actually flipped. So it's the cyborg's left hand not his right hand.

All of those are legit, but the first one is most likely flipped.

So if we're fooling the concept art, "Cyborg" is looking at the Vader mask on a Star Destroyer, or some variant... So if the movie follows course, the "cyborg" is most likely not Luke, unless he's full-fledged joined the First Order and is sitting in space on a Star Destroyer at some point, which seems highly unlikely based on what has purportedly been leaked to date...

Right, I think so too. My bet is, it's either Kylo without the mask and gloves, or it's the Uber character who we know nothing about. If I recall correctly, I read somewhere that this is the last shot of the film, I'm trying to find it.
The other possibility is that it's old concept of Kylo, but the fact that the Vader mask looks exactly like the prop we see in the final film leads me to believe this is not an old concept and that it was done further down the road, but you never know.

It might also be that the mask in the trailer is flipped as well and that the concept is correct and the cyborg's right hand is robotic (someone mentioned earlier that another shot in the trailer looked flipped as well).

It's odd that Luke and this Cyborg concept both have identical robotic hands. And while it may be that this concept is new, it may also be really old and at a time when the script may have had Luke as an antagonist similar to Dark Empire. Concepts appear to have changed over the course of the script rewrites. There' some older concept out there of Vader's helmet being more burned with a metalic mesh behind it as well as concepts of Kylo with more of a cyclops eye face.

Now there is a sense that this cyborg has either become the character Kylo or Uber and one of those characters has been given the Vader fetish. Vader was the most badass in recent history so it may make sense that any villain might idolize them. There is even that crazy rumor that Kylo goes around saying he IS Darth Vader.

The idea of clones, or resurrected Anakins, or Darth villains from prequel lore seem like an odd fit for a movie that is trying hard to tie itself to the original trilogy and distance itself from the prequels.

If you never saw the prequels then you might think this is Luke gone bad... and someone will try to connect it to Luke's vision in the cave of his face in Vader's mask.

It will be very hard for mainstream audiences to buy "there's a new sith in town" when we were pretty much assured in ROTJ that Luke was the last Jedi and he defeated the Emperor and Vader.

Uber and Kylo are clearly force sensitive - they sense an awakening in the force. Whether or not they are Sith remains to be seen. Serkis has already stated that his character is zombie-like. The concept may have just turned into two different villains.

It's not just the mask that is flipped, it's the background in the concept art.
I dont think Serkis said anything about Uber being zombie like, that was MSW

Just the vader mask is legit since it was in the trailer, the hooded guy looks like Dr Doom out F4.

So....my brain needs some more horsepower. I understand that the mask and background is flipped. The background is inconsequential since that's really not the reason for the art-- trying to establish tone and character. But whatever, let's say it's important. My question is: why would they go through the trouble of flipping ALL the concept art with the right hand cyborg?

Would be easy to figure out if the signature is reversed..

Also...they DID reverse images in the trailer:
    Cheek scar on the left
    [IMG]
    Cheek scar on the right

I must admit, that until I see a trailer with Mark Hamill's face intact I will be extremely nervous that the Cyborg thing is true.

It is literally the only thing that will make me get up out of my chair and leave the movie, so I'm really hoping he's not.

Fair point. I have no idea! haha You might be right, maybe the flipping was done only in certain concept art for better composition or something.

Does nobody else think that his ARM as well as his hand look robotic? i mean you can just barely make out some lines under that robe that suggest it might be a robotic arm.
it could of course just be how the robe looks.. but it would explain why he has this new hand rather than the old fleshy one.

I think it would be very interesting if this masked character is luke. but still the concept art shows no beard.
I hope he hasn't turned to the dark side.. i would not like to see luke as a villain.. if he has turned mad or to the darkside i hope he gets brought back.. and fast.

hmm i know it shows robotic parts in his forearm but im pretty sure he only lost his hand but i guess he would have to have robotic parts in his forearm to connect everything together.

They probably simply just reversed the image of Daisy for the simple fact that she was looking the wrong direction in the reaction shot that they were using. a simple editing technique to keep continuity of a shot when you don't have a good reaction shot that is the correct direction. I wonder if ILM will do any composites on those type of frames or if they will just let them be in the final film.

Finally! Someone noticed this besides me! Ever since I saw the clip in the second teaser of Luke's hand touching R2, it reminded me of the concept art of the "grave robber" holding the servered head of Darth Vader. There have been numerous rumors about Luke becoming a hermit and somewhat manic, and it would make sense for Luke to be looking for Vader's mask. Now I'm not trying to jump the gun too quickly, but I think there could be a possibility of Luke being closer to the dark side than we've previously seen him. I wouldn't be surprised to see a side of Luke we've never seen before in TFA. I know we don't have much supporting evidence at this point, but with what we know now, what isn't speculation?

On another note, wasn't the title 'grave robber' that was given to the figure in these concept images supposed to be the early codename for the villian in the film? Hmm... Now things are getting intresting.....

The "zombie" thing came from Star Wars Underworld first, MSW just reposted it.

The fans coined that name, it wasn't an actual code name for the character.

Personally, I think they are just early concepts for Kylo Ren, whether they are flipped or not.
