So, we know what's wrong with TFA, but what's wrong with the OT?

I'm sorry if I seem unfair so please forgive me if I made it seem that way. I only said what I said not based on my personal opinion to try to win the argument but just using what I saw in the movie. That's why I said what I said about the Ion Canon being used on the other Star Destroyers. Even as a kid I always asked myself why did the ship fall and not just float around. Maybe the problem here is that they should have shown the ship a bit damaged after Akbar said they should concentrate all firepower on the ship. If this were the case then sure, I would gladly go along with the things you said but the problem was making the ship look completly fine except for the teeny tiny fire on it.

Its all good. I was just offering possible explanations beyond what is on screen. But I am sure at the end of the day you gotta love Star Wars.

This is how I nitpick the four movies I absolutely love.

    1) A New Hope: being a narrative mess with horrible sound. The transition from act 2 to 3 with Luke's sudden starfighter stardom stil concerns me deeply......in a negative way. Shooting womprats backhome hey..........you little spoiled son of a......!
    2. Return of the Jedi (act 1's pacing is too slow and the lighting is off. Act 3 has some pretty redundant scenes. Whereas Starkiller was an imaginative adaptation of a planet killer weapon that was unique in its own way, the Deathstar II is just more of the same. Some of the staging and acting in ROTJ is also pretty stale and often feels very staged).
    3. ESB is flawless in most respects, though I never really liked the final scene with Lando in Han's clothes being all cheery and happily blasting off with dogman into the milkyway.
    4. The Force Awakens: Phasma..........just no. Keep her in the garbage bin. Kanjiklub, most racially exclusive gang in the galaxy.

There is nothing wrong with the original Star Wars (or New Hope) imo. A bold, original gamechanging masterpiece. Nominated for 10 oscars and one of the very few pre-80s movies which are still beeing watched recently by a large number of people all around the planet.

All the problems I have are associated with the sequels (and needless to say with the prequels). My no1 issue is the inconsistencies and contradictions. Obviously when a story expands (especially when its not planned) there will be contradictions on a certain level. Some worked (like Vader beeing Luke's father despite the contradictory dialogue in ep IV) some not so much (like Leia as Luke's sister).
But imo the contradictions arent too jarring. ESB is an excellent sequel to ANH. ROTJ while heavily flawed, it gives a satisfying closure to the OT.

Sure, you can nitpick these movie as much as you want, but in the end the positive aspects overwhelmingly outweigh the negative ones imo.

The only thing wrong with the OT is the current 1997 Special Editions.

Yes I agree. They should have made the Executor look real beat up and with flames on different parts of it. That way it would have at least seemed more credible than that teeny tiny fire taking down the whole ship.

Ewoks were my biggest gripe. ROTJ came out when I was in 8th grade, and even then I thought 'marketing ploy'. And I wasn't really all that savvy back then....but I saw it for what it was.

I think ROTJ was pretty good in spite of the ewoks. I really loved the locales and the action, but the story (now) feels a bit rushed like it was just ready to be done. Knowing what we know now, Lucas WAS just ready to be done, but it really shows in Jedi.

ANH holds up remarkably well over the years, more so in some respects than ESB which most think is the best, including myself. I think the simplicity of ANH is the key to its enduring appeal. Good guys face bad guys. Good guys win and get medals. Hard to fuss too much over that.

Return of the Jedi's introduction of another Death Star seemed repetitive to many fans, and I have also heard complains that the Jabba's palace/Han rescue sequences were too long.
Personally I had no problem with the ewoks, but I wanted to seem more focus on the crucial moments, which was Vader-Palpatine vs. Luke, which was the crux of the entire saga in many ways.

Arguably, another bad special effect was the x-wings leaving Yavin IV, (the original version before they fixed it up with CG spaceships.) If you recall, the original version looked like blinking bright dots zooming up to the sky.

Yeah that's cute. Look at the video and see the position of the ship high in space and then see how long it took the Executor to hit the Death Star.

If you really want to assume the DS gravity was so incredibly high up there to pull the ship down then it would have been causing great disasters on Endor since it was so close to the planet and it's gravity was so incredibly vast to reach so far.
