So, which characters or plot threads for the spin offs?

Who or what would you like to see (or indeed NOT see) in the spin off movies?

Firstly, I'm going to be wholly unoriginal and go for Boba Fett. I want to see him blast out of that Sarlacc then go around being a shrewd, cold, downright nasty bounty hunter. If Disney are worrying about making audiences sympathise with him the answer is simple, make his prey nastier than he is. A good Fett movie could totally make up for the crappy way he went out in Jedi.

Secondly, I'd like to see Ewan McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan, or rather Ben, Kenobi. Remaining undetected on Tatooine while keeping young Luke safe (from afar) could make for a fine film. For me, McGregor was one of the best things about the prequels.

I'd quite like a Wedge film with an ensemble Rogue Squadron but obviously Uncle Dennis wouldn't take the role.

As for my nots - I don't think I'd like a Yoda film. I think it would be overkill.

    Thoughts?

I'd totally go with McGregor's Obi Wan!!! The EU novel completely dropped the ball so I hope the movie picks up right where EP. III left off and show Obi struggle with his inner demons in the aftermath of the JEDI extinction.

Mandaloreans in expanded universe novels are to SW is what Klingons are to Star Trek, some of the most well rendered races ever!!!
If they're going to do a Boba movie, don't just show him... focus on his entire culture and show what the seasoned warriors are all about.

boba fett (and jango for that matter) are not mandalorian in the new canon. they just wear mando armor. if one of the spin off movies is about boba (and it likely will be) there should not be any connection to him and mandalore.

I have a bad feeling about this...

I like the idea of spin-off movies, this is a fictional universe with myriad possibilities after-all. However, when I hear what most people speculate to be the direction of the spin-offs (existing characters getting their own movies), all I think of is X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

There is so much more that could be done than revisiting existing characters, surrounding them with new people and quite simply knowing that every one of those new characters either dies or is really not very important as they have had no impact on the central nine movies.

I would prefer a different route. Perhaps a movie about life in the Imperial Army, crime-solving Jedi-style (or Sith-style) or first contact for a planet whose civilisation is just reaching galactic Republic/Empire standards. Maybe frontier's life on a newly settled planet or a heist movie, daring to steal from the Empire itself. There is so much potential that the idea of a Boba Fett or Yoda "Wolverine" fills me with dread.

[Edit - the one character spin-off I'd like to see involves characters only mentioned and not seen, so I think it'd work - let's see the many Bothan spies who died to get us this information]

obi wan is a prevalent character through all six movies and the clone wars. we don't need a spin off for him.

but i like the idea of the bothan spies

Bothan Spies sounds amazing, Mission Impossible in the SW Universe! I also like the idea of us following a stormtrooper unit or Rogue Squadron.

Though these stories are stand alone, it'd be cool if they tied into the main trilogy somehow, though not too much that it becomes a confusing mess (I'm looking at YOU, expanded universe!)

Man, it's a great time to be a Star Wars fan!

A Boba Fett Spin-Off in the style of Dredd. A normal work day or a series of missions where we can see how he got that good as a bounty hunter. We then also see the Underworld. At the end we see him being called by Darth Vader for the first mission for the empire...not to confuse with the Episode 5 mission he got. But a trial by Vader to test him. I don´t know if the Spin-Off should show the first encounter with Han Solo?

I would like a Darth Bane spinoff and it could show him forming the Rule of Two. I love the novels but I am not delusional enough to believe they will ever be adapted into film. Bane is a cool concept with a lot of potential.

I think Disney is looking forward. Episode VII will create many new characters to base the spin-offs on. The time gaps between 7, 8,and 9 are unknown and may tied together with these movies. A rumor from the upcoming Hasbro toy lines show:
    Fall 2014-Rebels
    2015-Episode VII
    2016-Boba Fett
    2017-Episode VIII
    2018-Solo
    2019-Episode IX
    2020-Red Five

I favor an Obi-Wan spinoff for this reason only.

Ewan McGregor and Joel Edgerton in a gritty Tattoine set "hide Luke" movie sounds like cinematic gold to me. They lucked into having a great actor play young Uncle Owen. They have a great actor as young Obi-Wan. They should use that.

How about one with Senator Organa founding the Rebel Alliance and that first victory against the Empire we never saw.

I like the direction that Rogue is suggesting. I'd love to see these movies just explore the vast star wars universe and give us all new characters to focus on. Maybe we just get some easter eggs here and there, maybe some cameos by secondary characters, or some vague mentions of what else is going on related to the main series of films. Honestly, I don't think Obi-Wan's backstory would be that interesting. Maybe a series that takes place during the time of the Old Republic would be interesting. I'd like to see the origins of the sith and the jedi council.

I agree, let's hope this doesn't turn into a rehash of Xmen Origins. If the movie centers on Yoda or Obi-wan, I feel that the franchise might veer into overkill territory...
Though I would be fine with Boba or a Rouge Squadron type movie. You have an interesting idea there with the Bonthan spies... I imagine an Oceans eleven type heist movie set in space.
They have a whole universe to explore, why beat a dead horse with existing characters?

They should try a spinoff about someone that hunts down Tusken Raiders

Dave Filoni confirmed this a couple times:

No they are not apparently, but they might still go with Jango being raised by Mandalorians which would mean he would still share their culture and beliefs

I think that they should make a Knights of The Old Republic movie, those games really kept the spirit of the series alive for a lot of people. Seeing a movie about either the Mandalorian wars or the Jedi civil war would be awesome. It is so far away from the movie timeline now you could really do anything and have great surprises and twists

Personally I'd prefer it if the spin off films must be made, that they focus on some really obscure aspect of the episodic run, or involve something entirely new set in the Star Wars universe. I'm not really interested in the back stories of existing characters too much, unless they're characters that we haven't seen very much of, or know anything about.

I suppose the great thing about the spin offs, is that they won't be bound by the timeline of the episodic run. They could take place at any time in Star Wars history. So for me, one of the more interesting possibilities to explore would be the genesis of the Jedi and the Sith.

Having said all that, I would nonetheless be a little interested in seeing a kind of Star Wars "Goodfellas" about the rise of Jabba the Hutt as the galaxy's premiere gangster.
