Hello my fellow hard core star wars fans about to be in a dark theater watching Star Wars - The Force Awakens in total disbelief while under a magical spell three weeks from now. :D Lol.

    K. As we all know, TFA drops in the U.S. on december 18 and in many places in the U.S. on the 17th (so glad I bought my tickets for the 17th). And as we all ALSO know, TFA drops in many European countries on december 16th. This is of course ancient news and when I think about the dilemma my star wars fan brothers and sisters are dealing with in Greece, I tell myself, things could be a lot worse and I really shouldn't be complaining. But in this case I feel my concern is legitimate. JJ Abrams, Lucasfim and Disney have gone to extraordinary lengths to preserve the secrecy of what is most likely, the most anticipated movie of all time. Not an easy task and they have done one hell of a job in doing so IMO. With all of the time, money, and effort put forth in this great endeavor, why risk letting the cat out of the bag in the final 24 hours before it's release? Within hours of the european release on the 16th of december, all of the plot twists and scerets of Star Wars - The Force Awakens will indeed saturate social media. This seems like a very contradictory decision on behalf of Disney. When it comes to social media, like myself, millions of hard core fans across america will be forced to take it back to the 18th century and undergo a complete and total media blackout. IMO it would have made more sense to avoid this whole inconvenience and push for a universal release to avoid the movie being spoiled across this entire country. Like I said I'm grateful for what we DO have. But the whole thing strikes me as a little odd. Feel free to share your thoughts below. :)

It's not like Disney can embargo the entire other side of the world...it's just a matter of what the general public decides to do .

I think we will know the whole plot before the 16th, there are going to be leaks, it's unavoidable.

I think spoilers will get on the web by Dec. 14 when it premieres. Movie premieres are public. They can't make the fans attending sign anything. So unless all of them decide to keep their mouth shut. You have to avoid the internet way before the 16th.

Is good question why Disney is putting so much effort in hiding spoilers yet they aren't opening the movie day and date. Is why I'm beyond annoyed with all the secret stuff. Critics only get to see after it premieres. The jaded part of me knows this isn't just to keep secret. Is to keep from anyone forming narrative about the movie including critics. I know movie studios have been worrying about how much screening movies ahead of time and rotten tomatoes have power to hurt or help a movie thanks to social media. Disney just doesn't want to take a risk because they don't know how anyone is going to receive the movie least of all the critics.

Just curious,,,,if anyone remembers......what happened earlier this year when The Avengers: Age of Ultron had it's L.A. premiere and European premiere and official European public release way ahead of the U.S. release on May 1, 2015? Were all the details spoiled all over social media. I don't remember. Maybe everyone will be extra nice and not intentionally spoil TFA. We are nice humans, right?

    This is from wikipedia:
Avengers: Age of Ultron made its world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on April 13, 2015, and held its European premiere on April 21 at the Vue West End in London. The film was released in 11 territories on April 22, with its release jumping to 55% of its international market (44 countries) by the end of its first weekend, before the North American release on May 1, in 3D and IMAX 3D.

I think it hurt AOU when it opened ahead of US because the reaction overseas to the movie was meh not as good as first one. I don't know why Disney Marvel insist on opening these movies week or two ahead.

Those markets have been known to actually have become bigger than The US Market in recent years in The a eastern Hemisphere of The Earth .

I will definitely stay off the internet on the 16th. It's not like I have been trying to avoid spoilers, but I just don't want to hear reviews and the plot twists before I see the movie (on the 17th).

I know it's early on in the poll but I'm really surprised at how many people will not black out! To each his own. :)

Well...I'm seeing it the 16th so only going to avoid facebook that day and avoid Collider on youtube for like 2 days.
But like where I live (the netherlands) it is costumary that a movie comes out the wednesday. I understand it is annoying for you, but ah well can't change a thing.
And don't forget time difference (like i said a few weeks ago. I'm seeing it at 8 p.m. on the 16th, but in Australia the people who are going to watch at the midnight premiere on the 17th (so in the night of 16 to 17) will see the movie even before me on the 16th!)

Collider counsil already announced a non spoiler review and a full spoiler review for TFA, they watch it on a press screening on December 14th. So maybe go dark on 14th.

It's like if we see a monkey throwing Bantha Poodoo at a person...it's disgusting but we can't look away.

No. I'm not annoyed. It's easy for me to go dark. My point is that people shouldn't have to. The decision to do so is what strikes me. Plus, there are millions of people with families with children entrenched in the web and that find themselves in environments where it is virtually impossible to do so.

This^ I don't care about spoilers. It's opinions I don't want to hear. I don't want to be tainted by nitpicky comments about how actor X's acting was wooden like the prequels, or how it looked more like JJ than Star Wars, or how "it's true, it *is* just a rehash of ANH," or how what we've seen already are all the best action sequences, or how there aren't any truly inspired visual designs that we haven't seen yet, or how they reused/rearranged OT music for most of the film and there is very little original music (and it isn't as good). All of these things may or may not end up being true, but I want to discover them for myself and have the opportunity to form my own opinions without bugs in my ears.

I wont do a total media black out but I will be carful on what sites I use (though I don't use social media so that helps) &I will avoid film & sci-fi site (except the spooler free section of this one) & just be extra carful when using the net for news or in a more general way

I have shied away from the MSW spoilers, and plan to blackout around the 12th. What I'm bracing for are friends who don't blackout (and don't necessarily care about SW) coming up to me and saying something like: "Wow, I just read on Facebook that x,y, z!!! can you believe it??" I might have to choke someone. (dark)Perhaps we should warn our less than enlightened friends who visit social media as well.
