Solo: A Star Wars Story better find its best tuxedo in Lando's cape closet, because it is heading to the Oscars! The film was just nominated for the Visual Effects Award at this year's Academy Awards! ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) continues to set the bar in visual effects brilliance, and it is nice to see them acknowledged once again. Listed on the nomination are Rob Bredow, Patrick Tubach, Neal Scanlan, and Dominic Tuohy.

Visual Effects Supervisor Rob Bredow watched the nomination announcement with his family! High fives all around as he tweeted their reaction.

Solo is up against some tough competition for the award, but as Han Solo famously once said, 'Never tell me the odds.' Here is the list of movies up for the Visual Effects Academy Award.

    • Avengers: Infinity War
    • Christopher Robin
    • First Man
    • Ready Player One
    • Solo: A Star Wars Story

The Academy Awards will take place February 24, 2019 on ABC. Congratulations to Rob Bredow and the crew at ILM, oh and:

I didn't see Christopher Robin, but of the listing I'd like to see Infinity War win - but i reckon the Academy will give it to Spielberg's RPO and hold off on a Marvel effects award until they can use Endgame in a year's time.

Would rather have Episode IX win Visual Effects next year.

Well, Solo deserved more Oscar nominations (come on! sound mixing? sound editing? costume design? makeup hairstyle? cinematography? Score? production design? Seriously?) and deserves more recognition and awards out there. Is not only a good Star Wars movie. I'ts really a very-well done movie. But we all know how awards works.

I suppose Black Panther has stolen Solo protagonism. I lasted 20 minutes with it. Unwatchable, like majority of superhero movies (only liked the presence and charisma of Chadwick).

Lucasfilm's commitment to campaigning for the films is not so big until the fact that Solo's Original Score by John Powell was disqualified as it missed the dateline for submission.

I really think they need to push Episode IX really well as an awards film as the people that works in the film deserves the recognition for their work. But no matter what, a good Star Wars film will always be loved by the fans and that is the greatest accolade they can get. Being loved.

Well, by the awards too, hopefully!

Glad to see a Solo nom, but I think Infinity War needs to win for Thanos alone.

If we're talking about 2012 when "The Avengers" came out or 2014 when "Guardians of the Galaxy" came out . . . sure. But not now.

    As for "Solo" . . . congratulations.

Shouldn't the Academy wait until it sees whether Episode IX deserves the recognition?

Yes, definitely. Apologies if you mistaken my statement for something else but as I said, I hope their hard work will pay off.
