Here are a selection of video reviews of Solo - A Star Wars Story

The following reviews are advertised as spoiler free, but some allude to story plots, characters and conclusions. So don't watch of you don't want to know anything.

    CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS

So basically now the lowest scoring SW movie since the Disney take over. I do wonder why we are getting these reviews a week before release. I guess they want to create some buzz and conversation and that whether it is negative or positive is really subservient to the real objective: getting people to see this movie. Usually the critics reviews are very much alligned with my own reception, so I'm especially interested to see how this is all going to turn out. I'm seeing it next wednesday. I haven't read or watched any of the reviews. I want to go in with a clear mind as I always do. I'm quite hyped at the moment.

Hmmm, Roz and I were on the same page with our disgust on TLJ. I have learned the hard way to beware when the critics gush and are having orgasms over a SW film after TLJ. The fact that some of the critics reviews are lukewarm over Solo makes me more optimistic that I will enjoy it.

I know a person that reviews films for a living. He stated that he was wary of giving Solo a glowing review because of the hellfire and brimstone he received from reviewing TLJ positively. He says it just isn't worth it because he, and his employer, got dragged on social media and in comment sections, and because of that he decided to be much more critical with Solo and give it a middling review because of it. He also mentioned his employer was unhappy with all of the negative attention from his TLJ review (Chew on that one a while, folks. Especially you "Disney shill!" commenters. If Disney were truly so all-powerful, we wouldn't have news outlets angered with their film reviewers because of online commenters...). So with Solo, he sprinkled positives into his review. However, he went out of his way to find faults with the film, and thus he sprinkled a liberal helping of negatives throughout the review as well. The result is that it comes off as a negative review, unfortunately. He says he knows a handful of other reviewers that feel the same way about the TLJ situation, who were similarly targeted because of their positive reviews of that film, and who are somewhat doing the same with their reviews: tempering the positivity. I honestly believe that some of these middling reviews are partially due in part to the blowback from TLJ. Privately, he said he really enjoyed the film, despite its rough edges and a few flaws (which, let's be real, most films have). He says that it gave him that special Star Wars feeling. If you're a fan, you know what that means. He says he would have given a very positive review if it had come out before TLJ and that whole debacle. What a shame. What an angry, ignorant world we live in.

(And no, I will not tell you who, neither in the forum nor in a private message. Sorry. Gotta respect my friend's privacy. Hope ya'll understand.)

Basically if you add up all the reviews from the highs of shill John Campea to the lows of the ET Canada guy, Solo seems to be......

Okay. Or below good but above meh.

Come on. Don't be ridiculous with the shill comment. Don't be one of those people. You're better than that.

I always take reviews with a huge tub of salt. Seriously. What they are looking for isn't necessarily what I'm looking for. It's nice to see reviewers like a film, but I'm not concerned either way. I'll make my own judgments about the film when I see it .

Having said that, I am not surprised that the film isn't getting 5 stars across the board. If I were a reviewer I'd probably grade it down slightly from what I would have done simply because of the fall out from the Last Jedi. Doesn't mean its a bad film. Doesn't mean we won't enjoy it. Either way we will find out in about a week.

This might be a good reason for Disney to fully implement the "kill the past" approach. Get rid of the last Skywalker (and Solo) in Ep.IX (to get rid of the crazy-obsessed OT fans) and go do their own thing with RJ, B&W etc.

Bringing out videos like this one doesn't forbode well for Solo.....

So either its quality is really limited or they're just feeling it is not going to bring in the revenue they expected (two separate things though). And youtube's automatic playlist gives you a very negative review immediately after this video (yep that algorithm again).

I was quite disappointed that Jeremy Jahns thought the movie was boring. Can't judge it off that alone but i never thought a Han solo movie would receive a "boring" critic. It has me quite concerned, especially since i'm not a fan of RO, that I might be 0/2 from the anthology movies. :(

After all the vocal hatred for TLJ, Kathleen Kennedy, Disney etc. I'll be suprised if Solo's revenue would be anywhere near that of Rogue One. They really should have moved the premiere to December.

Is it old style to build up your own opinion on sthg?
Forget about reviews. Follow your instincts!
    I have a good feeling about seeing a funny SW summer movie together with my son;

the reviews are out because they released the movie at the "Cannes movie festival" and there is no emargo for any movie that is shown at that festival

If the tiny vocal minority mattered it would hurt The Last Jedi's revenue (it didn't). Based on opening week projections Solo is going to do fine. Can we quit acting like there's some huge backlash out there? It simply doesn't exists except in the imaginations of a few upset fans.
Anytime I read something like this on the internet I take it with a grain of salt. I certainly think RT has changed the way reviews are written. With that in mind I believe there's review inflation. This happened with the pretty terrible Ghostbusters (certified fresh) remake. Everyone knew the movie was terrible, but the film received hate from morons simply because the cast was female. So some reviewers were very kind. The Ghostbuster film audience score was also overrun with fake votes.

Solo is going to make buckets of money no matter what the reviews happen to be so if you're a movie reviewer who wants to deal with with toxic fans? I am a huge movie fan who also happens to be a Star Wars fan, but I'll be frank... there hasn't been a Star Wars film made yet that rises to the level of Oscar contender. These are entertaining adventure films. Black Panther got reviews worthy of a best picture film. It's great, but it shouldn't be nominated for best picture. People who hated TLJ are not pointing to Solo reviews... they didn't seem to care about how well reviewed TLJ was when it came out.

For me there's a handful of reviewers I trust. I don't always line up 100%, but it's pretty close. Solo will be fine.

BTW the "want to see" Solo on RT is at 53% which is comical. Guys, if you're going rig the score at least wait until the film is out. LOL

Scot Mendelson, Forbes, who was precise in predictions so far, predicts Solo worldwide box office around 800 mil.$.
It will be interesting to see how precise he was this time.

That would be my prediction as well, which would put it on par with most Marvel films.

If the movie costed about $300-400m (initial budget+reshoots+marketing), than $800m would be enough to make the money back. Let's hope it gets there.
