A lot of films encounter at least some level of drama throughout their production process, but no film productions garner attention like a Star Wars film. A franchise built on legacy and the need to deliver, high expectations are pinned upon Star Wars films by its fan-base, and rightly so. Actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge spoke briefly about the film, specifically the transition to Ron Howard and its handling by all involved. We also touch on the widespread rumors as to what character she is playing, and when we should expect a teaser/trailer to finally arrive!

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who reportedly plays a CGI-based role in Solo: A Star Wars Story, spoke with IGN about the film, giving her take on the reported 'drama' from last year's director change and how things have gone since then. From IGN:
We don't expect an actor to publicly slam a director, so the quotes aren't shocking, but for a movie of this magnitude that has undergone such a public shake up, it never hurts to hear this sentiment from someone in the film.

    WHO IS SHE PLAYING?

Many recent, but unconfirmed reports, are pointing at the droid revealed in leaked toy lines called DD-BD as the character Bridge is playing.

At face value (from what we are used to anyway), this droid doesn't look like the type of droid that would speak English, but moreso beep and chirp like an astromech droid similar to R2-D2 or Chopper. It would be interesting to see a droid like this speaking English. Perhaps we'll get a confirmation of that soon in the upcoming trailer.

WHEN WILL WE SEE FOOTAGE FROM SOLO?

When asked about a trailer for Solo on Twitter, Ron Howard responded that we will see something soon now that The Last Jedi has had its stage!

A lot of speculation has pointed to one surfacing this month, so we imagine we will finally get our first look at footage of the film within these next two weeks.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will open in theaters on May 25th, just a little over four months away! The film has an incredibly talented cast, an Oscar winning director in Ron Howard, and a legendary writer in the eyes of Star Wars fans, Lawrence Kasdan, who has stated this will be his final contribution to the franchise. With production drama long in the rear view, it is now time for Solo to stake its claim in the Star Wars galaxy.

You can find me on Twitter @JohnnyHoey talking a lot about our favorite scoundrel over the next four months!

Have to admit I'm kinda surprised - I'd imagined PWB would be playing a protocol droid or something similar, which would then also add some weight to Solo's dismissiveness/disdain of 3PO in the OT

I hope so. I certainly hope & whatever her character is I hope they have made use of her comedic talents.
(Not that I want to have a SW version of her Fleabag character because that would just be very very odd though)

Once the film is complete, we'll get a full trailer a few weeks later(March April). Teaser late Feb., I hope I'm wrong, but TLJ was worth the wait. LFM made us wait months for a full trailer then tv spots hit overwhelmingly so their marketing for the film will hit the masses no matter what; its just patients, sw fans don't have... and even if it sounds ludicrous it can still be pushed back to Dec., there are legit rumors, since Star Wars' films do well at that time. the only thing that might prevent that is Mary Poppins. Disney will make money nonetheless so it can still be push later this year.

Everything is riding on this film, so they are not in a rush to put it out. Since expectations are low for this film, if its a good film it will be successful. All this so called controversy will be forgotten. As long as it makes $650 million it will be considered a success. I predict it will make at least a billion. the Star Wars brand is strong, all this movie has to have is a good word of mouth from the general audience and critics. there is a small minority that wants Disney to fail. iTs not enough to hurt the brand. TLJ's backlash wasn't enough, the film passed a billion, its the top (#1) grossing film of 2017, and the critics for the most part like it.

I think the problem is that they are in a rush to put it out. I believe the original plan was to have E9 in May 2019, so they wanted to make sure E9 got a full 12 month lead-up. Han Solo had to bite the bullet and be the movie with only a 5 month lead up.

However, now that we know they won't have E9 until December 2019, it makes zero sense whatsoever to keep Solo in May. There is a ton of competition this May and the director(s) were replaced very late in the game, necessitating all sorts of changes down the line. I just cannot, for the life of me, figure out what they are thinking sticking to this current schedule.

Hopefully it all works out, I don't think KK would release a mediocre Star Wars film. I just heard a report on youtube that Disney held a film event in Munich, Germany which included the Solo film and it got positive reviews. Doesn't mean it will be a good film, all films are subjective, this indicates that it may still be released in May, and the trailer should be around the corner.

    You mean "again"?
Yes I heard positive reviews as well from the footage that was seen. My optimism in this movie rests on Ron Howard whom I feel is a tremendously talented filmmaker.

Film-goers know him as the wise-cracking hero who helped free the galaxy from the evil Empire. But who was Han Solo before the legendary events of the Star Wars movies? How did he become the smuggler and thief? How did he get mixed up with Boba Fett and Jabba the Hutt? And where in the world did he learn to fly like that? I hope all these questions will be answered in 4 months!!!

i hope that solo becomes more and more of a Peedunky towards he end and begins the movie as a optimistic luke-esque character. as the underworld chews this boy and spits him out. the movie can end with him and chewies drunk in a bar, han bitter over the fact that he will go no where in life. woody harelsons character says that he was much happier before he came to the underworld, and han replies "i know". woody in response takes out the dice and places it in the table. han is about to throw away his dice(that his mother gave him) to the trash but takes a long look at it and holds it tight. the time skips and we see a much older version of woody harelsons character at han solos funeral, looking at a book. he looks at a picture of han, ben solo, and leia happy and the camera slowly zooms into han as we realize that han solo felt happy and peaceful for the first time in his life when he was a father.
