Because some projects that were never officially announced have been put on hold? That's pretty much the nature of pre-production. Seems like this is something that has been under some consideration for awhile now. It's why they were never announced and why they're concentrating on the RJ trilogy and B&W series. Keep in mind Lucasfilm announced both of those and never announced another anthology film. That suggest to me this idea has been brewing for awhile.

Solo wouldn't have bombed if critics didn't put a hit out on GOTTI

The idea to cancel the spinoffs has been brewing for... oh, 4 weeks as of tomorrow.

Oh, and we are not getting an RJ trilogy and a Benioff/Weiss trilogy. Those projects will be merged and one (or both) production teams will be stepping aside.

I'm curious about that movie. I'll probably see it on blu ray later this year.

Obviously not an insider close to Disney or someone who knows much about reaction. Given the lack of new information in the article this is simply the Hollywood Reporter having to write something about a story they missed.

Solo's fate vs R1 is completely unfair. I still feel that if Solo and R1's release dates had been swapped, it would have been a different story overall. Solo is a good film. Most reviewers think it's at least 'good', almost everyone I know who has seen it thought it was 'really good' if not 'great.'

I do agree that maybe they should have jumped forward in time....like a LONG TIME....if they were hellbent on doing 7, 8 and 9. Have Luke, Han, et all be just 'stories' from the past.

That could satisfy folks. I dunno. I liked Harrison Ford in TFA, but it wasn't magical to me. He was Harrison Ford.....not Han Solo. Why? Maybe because I'd seen Ford do so much more after his SW days that he took me out of the galaxy....could be. I dunno.

Some bemoaned (yes....some actually 'bemoaned'. They were bemoaning....actively) the fact that Woody Harrelson was in Solo, because it might 'take them out of the film.' Putting aside the fact that a grown actor goes by the name 'Woody' (howdy, howdy, howdy!!!) I thought Beckett was pretty good!!

I felt that way more about Harrison, than I did Harrelson. Aside from the "It's true....all of it"....I never felt I was watching Han Solo (my favorite SW character, btw.) I thought Alden did a much better job with the character, but maybe that's just me.

Haven't seen anyone say this (although I haven't looked hard), but who knows - maybe 'Solo' will make it's money in DVD and Blu Ray sales, and become one of those box office 'flops' that go on to be huge hit on home entertainment. Like Bladerunner.

I think it will do well on Blu Ray/Digital because there are a lot of fans who just didn't see it because of TLJ and it will get a 2nd life this fall. I have told many people in work that it's a really good movie and they are missing out and now they are curious. Part of me sort of enjoys that there is a cult fanbase for a SW film (much like Bladerunner back in the day) as this is never happened before. Most people I have talked to love it (everyone says the same thing that they had no expectations and ended up loving it) and it's like a small club we have and so many SW fans are missing out because of their hatred for TLJ.

I didn't enjoy TLJ (although I am starting to be able to get through it all without cringing throughout) but I still went to see Solo (twice) - albeit not in the opening week. Solid, fun SW movie in my opinion. Most everyone I know didn't see Solo (they all knew about it - so marketing wasn't the issue for them) because of TLJ.

Now I'm not saying that's the reason for the bomb, I'm just talking about my own experience in my little pocket of the world, purely anecdotal.
    :)

I think the home release sales will make a good return. More home versions sold than cinema tickets.
