    The information we got today is the Solo is acclaimed at film festival at Canes.
    The film was , somewhat unexpetedly , shown on the festival.

    Withnesses report both dirrecor Ron Howard and actors were approached by many attendands and congratulated.

    This is the good sign.

    Yes, but Hollywood Reported already said the reactions were 'tepid' because it got ovation of 'only four minutes'. :rolleyes:

    Imagine such a 'bad' reaction to the movie. It will be a new 'it made only 1.3+ billion dollars'.

    The reason why Solo was applauded is because the cast and crew were present on the premiere. When you're meeting a person that made the thing you're watching you're not going to say to him/her "it sucked." That's also why this year there are no screenings of films within the competition for Palme d'Or before the official premiere - to let the filmmakers have their time to shine in the spotlight. Now, does it mean that the film is not good? Of course not! But bear in mind that premiere reactions are always skewed towards the positive (that's also why Disney puts a lot of movie journalists into the premiere screenings, like with Solo or Infinity War - to get that positive social media buzz.)

    So was the cast and crew of Black Klansman yesterday and they got 8 MINUTE OVATION. Apparently, there is a strict ovation time that makes audience reaction 'tepid' or 'fantastic'. :rolleyes:

    At this point, I am done reading anything. The reactions from both 'masterpiece' to 'garbage' side are just making my blood boil.

    This is all true. You can't judge based on these types of events where the people making the film are there. I mean, the rough cut of Batman v Superman got a standing ovation. With these things there is kind of a rule of thumb where standing ovation is expected, it's not any different than live theater, you want to respect the efforts of the people that made it, even if the final product isn't 100% great. So yes, a 4-minute standing ovation at the Canne premier is nothing--well, it's just manners.

    The first reviewers are out now and from what I have read they seem to be saying "it's not great, it's not bad, it's fine, see it and enjoy it, 7/10", which is what I was expecting. I think the bigger test will be how Star Wars fans in general react to it, as TLJ received incredible acclaim from critics--probably the best-reviewed Star Wars film since the original--but then we know how 50% of the fan-base feels about it.

    Me, Myself, and I will judge SOLO a Star Wars Story don't need anyone to tell me what I like. I'll listen or read your opinion but it won't in any way affect mine. Some people are easily influenced... not me. I still haven't changed my stance on the TLJ and most likely never will bring on SOLO!!!!
