I have talked to many of my co-workers/friends who either bought Solo BluRay or received it for Christmas, and all of them have said they suprisingly enjoyed it. None of them saw last May for various reasons (TLJ backlash, busy May release, didn't buy the actor playing Han Solo) and kind of shrugged off the movie and passed. I kept telling them for the past 6 months its a little gem SW film that they are missing out on. It always the same response from them when they finally see it, "You know what, Solo was actually pretty good!"

Solo had the imprint of a sandcastle at high tide. One of my friends watched it a couple of days ago and pretty much repeated your friends comments verbatim. It's almost comical how often the term "pretty good" was thrown around in relation to Solo almost to the point where I feel it needed to be on the poster.

The problem with Solo is that it was only just “pretty good.” Not remarkable, not a must-see, not a timeless classic anyone will look back on years from now with great admiration.

But how many movies can be that for any franchise? It seems like people expect every SW movie to be a classic (which is impossible), when sometimes a good SW flick works fine.

I guess my point is: Is every song by Led Zeppelin as a great as Stairway to Heaven? Immigrant Song is a great song (IMO), but not a classic like Black Dog and Rock and Roll, but still a worthy Zeppelin song.

Solo and R1 are guilty pleasure SW movies you can enjoy as their own entity and don’t have to compare it to the OT. For me they are more worthy then the Saga films which constantly try to be like the OT with the same recycled plot points and themes.

Out of my group of Star Wars loving friend Solo & R1 are the new Star Wars they like the most.
It’s funny because even though they weren’t particularly keen on TLJ ( out of the 4 of us I liked that film the most) the idea of NOT seeing a SW film never occurred to them.

& my brother who I would class as a casual SW fan at most definitely preferred SOLO to the TLJ particularly because it’s just a good fun movie to go & see without all the baggage the saga film have

That’s really interesting. Among my friends/co-workers (this is no scientific poll so take it with a grain of salt), I’m noticing certain trends. The more casual they are, the more they liked the Saga films. The more diehard they are, the more they ended up liking the standalones.

My best friend since high school is a huge SW fan who is also a big EU guy and he loved Solo and disdains TLJ (to the point where I don’t mention it anymore, Lol).

My one co-worker who is a truly casual fan as he just sees every big blockbuster movie once and then is onto the next one. He really liked TLJ and will probably never see Solo, I don’t even think he knows it exists. My co-workers who fall somewhere in between casual/diehard ended up liking Solo more then TLJ.

I’m in a very similar situation with my best friend although there are 3 of them & 1 of me which definitely made me feel unsure if I wasn’t just being slightly stubborn in my view of TLJ but then on my second viewing I still really liked it a lot ( now TLJ is by no means perfect & I have some issues mainly in execution rather then story wise) & so we came to a understanding that had very different takes on TLJ & that perfectly fine & so we kind of agreed to disagree about most of it & just consente on what we both enjoy i.e R1, SOLO the hope That ESP IX might be more to there taste & the upcoming MANDALORIAN TV show.

My friend saw it before me and he liked the movie. He thought the Maul cameo was cool.
I loved it. Saw it 4 times in theater. The novelization is great also.

I totally love Solo. I think I might even like it more than TFA some days, depending on my mood. I am always up for more Star Wars films, but a Han Solo movie wasn't that high on my list for potential projects before I saw it... but I really love it, I think it's an amazing movie.

I really hope the underwhelming box office doesn't totally kill the idea of 'A Star Wars Story' type movies for too long. I think it would be a real shame if it did.

Slightly offtopic, but friends of mine, a couple, went watching Solo on the big screen even before I had a chance to watch this movie (I was pretty late, because I just didn't find time). They haven't seen any Star Wars movie before and both really liked Solo.

I just showed Solo to a friend last night. He's an above-casual Star Wars fan but hadn't seen Solo in the theatre as it had sort of passed under his radar. He absolutely loved the film and found it to be pure SW bliss. Good times :)

The movie is odd in that it seems like those who would turn out to like it most wouldn't actually go see it for a variety of reasons that I think mostly would have turned around with a better marketing effort and/or a little less crowded of a release slot.

My friend that I took on my first viewing didn't even know it was out missing it between the hype for Infinity War and that of Deadpool 2.

I saw it a couple times and like it but I also think it is the least of the Disney films though I can see Rise of Skywalker fading to its level in time. Probably not because there is more meat on the bones even if some of the meat is a bit funky for me but possible.

That said there is enough for me to actually want more in this line, I bought into the characters and the perspective.

When it was released, all my family, friends and everyone else I know who didn't see Solo seemed to just really be turned off with Harrison Ford not being involved at all. Then those who finally saw it really liked it. I of course, gave 'em the ol 'I told you so.'
