    Hello.

So, one thing I thought about today was this--Han Solo didn't have a droid in the OT, nor in the ST, unless perhaps he left one behind on Evavana, when the rathtars were released...

I know that in earlier EU Books (The Solo Trilogy) he had a droid named "blue bot," or something--I don't know the EU that well...

So, in ANH, Han is in control of a pretty decent sized ship, compared to some of the others we have see for "personal ships." Space is scary as hell, right? I know his ship has three separate A.I.'s that talk to each other, but he lacks a droid to help find and/or repair damage to his ship. Why?

If I had a space-ship, I would FOR SURE have all the help I could muster. Imagine that you lose life-support... You (Han) and Chewie pass out... but the trusty droid can fix it. Your Hyperdrive isn't working--you are driving, chewie is gunning... the droid is there to fix it.

So, for OT theory, and possible "Stand Alone Movie" contemplation... will Solo have a droid, and if so, why did he chose to not have one later?

They are obviously affordable (moisture farmers can buy two at a time), and the Falcon did have two gunner seats, needed a pilot, and only had two crew members.

    Thoughts?

Honestly that sounds like a good opportunity to showcase why he is resistant to using droids. Maybe he had a droid crew member and was betrayed? Or maybe watching the clone wars as a boy affected his opinion on synthetic life forms? If the movie answers this question I’d be pleasantly surprised because it’s honestly something I’ve never even put any thought into before but it would explain a lot about his character and his behavior with C-3PO in particular

Yeah. Perhaps he had a droid close to him and something went south, souring him forever on droids.

I think that it would have to be deeper than that, because Han has a solid disdain for droids. I wouldn't call it a hatred as much as I would consider it to be a personal aversion.

Interesting idea? What if the Han droid was ... R5-D4! The same orange little friend that Luke had chosen, but he broke down at the last minute. Han could lose him to Jawas, or sell, suspecting R5 just for the defect.

He doesn't appear as particularly anti-droid though. So it could be a bit of boring arc; "lots of people have droids, which is fine for them, but I'm not one for it. This is why I am a bit ambivalent".

It needs to have a 40-minute sequence where he explains the rules of Sabaac while walking through a Canto Bight casino, including frequent treading on Hutt tails.

Perhaps he inherits Lando's droid with the Falcon when he wins it, but loses/has no need for it once his hetero-life-buddy Wookiee comes on board?

We have BB-8 from TFA, we had K2SO in RO and even in TLJ, there is a new droid (the "dark" BB-8). For "Solo", I could dispense for another droid ... I mean, of course, we will see some droids and of course, they have to be in it, but I think, you understand what I mean, when I talk about a "droid character" instead of a "droid".

And: I'm not sure, if I want to see C3PO and R2D2 in "Solo"... on the one hand, for me, their appearance in RO was too much fanservice, on the other hand, "Solo" would be the first movie without them this way... Maybe, I would love it to see an old "Roger, Roger"-droid, when they use it in the right way...
