From my private instructor, who is a good friend of one of the musicians in the orchestra which is recording the soundtrack next week, I have received some interesting info from the score.

Apparently, there is a theme (for a person, place or thing (think Force Theme, Leia's theme etc.)) that appears throughout the score in three different variations. One is very bold, brave and sort of heroic, one is very mild and careful, and one is dark and written in a minor scale, leaning towards the feeling of Imperial March.
Perhaps this is a theme for Han Solo, and also Rey and Kylo, all of them being Solos?

The last piece of the score is said to be Luke's theme, starting small and slowly building up - ending in a grandiose piece with the entire orchestra, before launching off into the familiar End Titles.

If this information is correct, does this mean Luke will only be featured in the last scene? Does it also mean Rey and Kylo are siblings, and children of Han. I must state that I cannot guarantee whether the source in the orchestra is just making up blast to spark rumors, or if they are true. I think it is an interesting speculation though.

Wouldn't be shocked (if true) if the more heroic theme is Rey's theme. And the other is Finn's. Theme

The minor one could Be Snork or Kylo's theme.

It might not mean Luke will be featured in the last scene, but it might mean when he is seen the most.

Side note: many people are going to die on forum boards in December if Luke is only seen at the end of movie.

The Solos bit could be correct. I still haven't seen anything more solid than speculation floating about, but I would chalk that up to the lid being tight on that info.

For the Luke theme, it could mean that he only appears in one scene... I would be interested in seeing what the approximate length to that theme is. Of course, if we go with some rumors that have floated about for a while, it could have to do with Luke being somewhat mad and not exactly himself, if you follow. The theme itself could mark when he regains his wits, and thus becomes the Luke we know and love. Luke the Hero. Thus he might have other scenes that don't garner the heroic theme at all.

Indeed. One portion from the disappointment, another portion being casualties from the resultant massive forum-war over opinions.

I really want to hear the score even before I see the film... the music is 50% of the experience-.

Just keep in mind that Luke's theme - which I presume refers to the variant of the Main Theme - has not played in full every time he makes an entrance. Look at the openings of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, or Return Of The Jedi. You just hear the leitmotif play briefly and that's it. The actual theme plays in the credits, but I don't think it's played in full in the movies outside of the credits.

The first use of it in the original film simply had it used as a part of a different piece, in the second you hear it even more briefly after he reveals his face to the audience, and in the third, it doesn't play at all in his entrance - not in the hologram, not when he marches into Jabba's Palace, and not even in the deleted scene near the beginning of the film when Darth Vader speaks to him through the Force as he adjusts his lightsaber. Same thing if you're talking about Binary Sunset/The Force Theme, which only plays in emotional/mysterious moments.

While I'm pretty sure that Luke training Rey is the shot that closes out the movie, I don't think it's conclusive enough to say that Luke's only in one scene (outside of a flashback) based on hearing the music there. I get the feeling that we could also hear Luke connect to other characters through the Force.

I throw my hat in with the three variants being for Finn, Rey, and Kylo in that order

    UPDATE!
They are incredibly close to start recording, and some have recieved their parts. Of course, they only have codes for names, but my source recognizes much, including the main theme (duh), some of the attack music from the OT, and one interesting detail: Yoda's theme seem to be included in one of the pieces. This makes wondering if Williams has turned this theme into a "mentor"-theme or "master"-theme?

If Luke's theme is so strong at the end of the score, I am willing to think that it's because that's when we will see him appear/big reveal. Yoda's theme being introduced is interesting, we've typically only heard it played when Yoda was on screen, could this mean a force ghost or at the very least, Yoda being mentioned? We'll see. I can't wait to hear the score but I'm just hoping some track titles don't give away too much prior to seeing the film.

I honestly think it was a stupid idea to make more star wars movies especially considering Mr. Williams' age, I mean by the time they get to episode 9 he will be close to 90 years old, i think its incredibly risky theres no guarantee he will live to 87, but dont get me wrong i am just as excited as the next guy for these movies i am just terrified he will die before they are complete. But if he should die (God forbid) who do you guys think would be a good idea to take his place? (not that anyone can measure up to his greatness).

I'm not exactly sure the films were being produced for the sole purpose of having John Williams score them. It would be great if he can still be with us through the whole process.

Yoda's theme is heard quite a bit during the cloud city escape. Its also present in the opera scene during the Darth Plagueis speech. Although as I understand it, the former was due more to post production editing needs than due to any thematic relevance. The latter can easily be explained as a representation on Anakin's inner struggle. The ominous music of the sith drowning out the quiet and increasingly forgotten wisdom of Master Yoda.

But it isn't without precedence for the theme to appear without the little green guy himself.

I've always rationalized the theme's appearance there as it representing fate or the will of the force in the same way Luke's theme when played at full scale can represent Star Wars as a whole. So, not sure whether Williams would voluntarily use Yoda's theme without Yoda being there.

Another possibility is that Yoda could be mentioned or referenced in Maz's story or some other reference to the past resulting in a musical queue.

I think they have his successor already on board, passing the torch is the whole purpose of this movie.

    This.

Besides, if he dies - and lets avoid euphemisms - there are other good composers who`d readily jump aboard the Star Wars train.
And its not like they`d have to start from scratch.

I love McNeely's SOTE. I also think Giacchino could do well.

I`ve no reason to believe that whoever might/will be succesor to John Williams is going to Blast things up.
I imagine they`d get the best possible composer around and even budget wouldnt be an issue in this case.

I`ve my worries about Rogue One but so far it seems that people in charge of Star Wars genre have got it right and understand what it needs..At least this far.
