Ooh boy...cue up the “Luke is Dark” theories.

Actually, one that has been floating with me for awhile, is if Plaguies created both Anakin and Rey...almost like a failsafe if Palps screwed up with Vader...or, even if he survived the assasination and then created her later...

Apparently something real big is coming....and it’s bigger than just Rey using anger and hooking up with Kylo even...they are really hyping this as a major deal and that Luke will be really off...

    Also from the same post:

Kylo Ren is from a blessed heritage, one that descended from the past trilogies, but is destroying his own roots. Rey, on the other hand, is bringing the past to the present. So we might predict that Rey is descended from someone who was the main player in a past tragedy, or someone who was cast out [/isolated, the meaning is a bit vague here]."

If true, Reywalker is confirmed dead then.

The people that blog for Korea and Japan haven't seen the movie I'm sure. This is menial work for them at its best 'watch the trailer and other marketing and interviews, write what you think'.

“A shock to rival all shocks! Good? Or evil?”

“All your predictions will be wrong”

This is a style of South Korean marketing for TLJ, it would made even North Koreans shiver.

This is a chart released in South Korea as marketing for TLJ, showing the relationships between different characters.

As someone who's familiar with KDramas and their promotional material/ advertisments, this stuff is super common in Korea. They draw up these infographics for basically all popular shows and even some kpop bands.

Here's the catch, though- that little question mark? That almost always means that they're gonna fall in love in the end.

Thanks for bringing it up! :)

Also, this isn't new or weird at all.

Hyperbole sells like hotcakes in SK. Everything is the BIGGEST and BEST and MOST SHOCKING.

So, all our predictions will be wrong. Hmm. Is this even a good or a bad thing?
    Possibly a grey thing.

Absolutely. IF you see that question mark in an infographic between a girl and a guy placed in the centre of the page.

Otherwise, it just means they don't know wth you're talking about. :)

So, why did they said Kylo is "villain you want to be related to"?

Isn't this already explained by the ? mark.....? which as you say in the culture means love?

Lol in my eyes it destroys ReyLo like a Pyongyang nuclear test .They are blood related.(Family)

"Relate to" as in understand. Or empathise. Saying that you relate to something means that you understand or empathise with that something. That you see yourself in that something.

You can refer to this tweet for further clarification.

Kylo is a relatable villain because you can understand his motives. Because you see a bit of him in you (anger/ frustration/ need to prove yourself)

You're confusing it with "being related to" which means completely different things.

    It's a common mistake, though. :)

    Can't be sure either way.

The connection between Kylo and Rey is being marketed heavily in the East. In the sense that, it's literally all that's being marketed. That and Luke. They don't even bring up the Resistance or Poe or Finn much.

But it says "expectations will be wrong" and your insights imply it should be not unexpected for them, they actually hint its love...:p

For random Rey(ReyLo), from Korea with love....

Interesting chart! Although I think we shouldn't read too much into it, since these kind of charts are very common in S Korea and they probably just did because its genius local marketing. For instance, just because the "?" in S Korea means two characters will become love interests doesn't mean the same will apply to Rey and Kylo.

Nevertheless, "A villain you can relate to" definitely sounds like something that will be explored in the film. Also I'm very intrigued by the "Enemy" connection between Snoke and Leia. Why draw an enemy line specifically between these two?

The one connection I feel is complete BS though is this one:

    Rey and Poe = friends

Oh no, you can't fool me, Lucasfilm. Rey and Poe didn't utter a single word to each other in TFA.

I believe that both my moral compass and compassion are on point, but I have trouble relating to space equivalent of privileged white man who felt that mom and dad had neglected him and thought that turning to a group of space Nazis and murder was an adequate response.

Let's just hope that Koreans lost their marbles. :D

Like I said as well, calling the movie/tv show's story unexpected is pretty common in SK and indeed most Asian and more often than not isn't very unexpected at all. It's hyperbole. An exaggeration.

But since it's a phrase you're using worldwide, you might say that it's a bait and switch.

But the thing is that bait and switch doesn't work wi h unknown IPs and don't get me wrong, while SW has it's fans in the East but it isn't as popular as Marvel or DC is and most East Asian/ South Asian countries (excluding Japan) didn't get to watch the OT with the rest of the world and even when they did. It wasn't the pop culture phenomenon it became in the West.

They're trying to be as straightforward with their marketing as possible whilst not giving too much away.

You'd be surprised at just how popular ReyLo is in Asia. I have a bunch of black market keychains with Kylo and Rey that I got from China. :p
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 26, 2017, Original Post Date: Nov 26, 2017 ---
Considering that the person who used the descriptor first was the director of the movie himself, I wouldn't be so hopeful. :p
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 26, 2017 ---
They did in the novelisation, if I remember correctly. But that doesn't really mean much.
