The FACT about Kylo Ren is he BELIEVES he has a higher cause. The RIGHT cause.
Now, he is either right or he has been tricked/fooled/coerced into thinking it is right.
He has been pulled to the Dark Side from the beginning, arguably with Snoke getting into his head from a young age.
His parents weren't around for him and the uncle he was sent away to (compounding on his abandonment complex) put incredible pressure on him.
He discovered he had been lied to all this time (Vader) and likely, in a fit of uncontrolled anger, destroyed Luke's temple and students.
He then ran away and was found by Snoke - who made sense of all this for him (likely with an added bit of telepathic trickery) to make him believe that he should:

    "Fulfil Darth Vader's destiny".

That's what we can be pretty certain about.
What may well flesh this out further will be discovered through Luke's journey:
Why did he go to Ahch-To? Why does he think the Jedi must end (as Kylo does)? Why isn't he helping out his friends and family?
It strikes me that Kylo is getting the rough end of the stick whilst the most powerful man in the universe gets a free ride despite having the power to turn the tables on the First Order.

Do you Kylo haters not ever ask yourself why Luke acts in this way?
For me, Kylo's journey thus far is enough to justify his fall to the Dark Side and subsequent redemption. I'm not absolving him of his crimes. He will have to face up to them in some way. And if he is truly redeemed, he will suffer personally for what he did anyway.
But moving on, despite this (for me) being ample explanation for his fall and possible redemption, we're going to perhaps have a reveal from Luke that explains further.
For instance, if Luke believes (rightly or wrongly) that the Jedi must end for some cosmic Force balancing event, then perhaps Ren thinks this as well - literally, for the good of the galaxy. For Luke, he thinks passivity is the way forward (a crime in itself at times). For Kylo, he believes that the Dark Side is the only pathway to the POWER he needs to end the Jedi and other factions who disturb the cosmic imbalance.

Kylo Ren could think that he is the CHOSEN ONE, destined to do what Vader should've done - rule not just the galaxy, but the Force itself...alone. Only then can he ensure that there will be peace. And both Luke and Snoke are likely to blame for that idea getting into his head. Now, when you think about this and imagine the pressure on him (again not absolving him of his own faults of arrogance and self-absorption) then you can see, for example, why he might be willing to kill Han Solo. For as much as I love Han, it's obvious that Han's life isn't equal to that of the entire galaxy. Ren didn't want to kill his father. He didn't feel good when he did it (realising that the Dark Side isn't the path to the power he believes he requires). But he felt he had to. And the point is, we should perhaps understand why he thinks that way.

So for me the revelation will be that our old heroes screwed him up somewhat. His family legacy and bloodline screwed him up. And the Dark Side took advantage. What he needs is someone outside of that to show him a different path (through their own journey), someone that will show everyone how to save the galaxy...

Because people with privilege cannot suffer?

Born with immense power he didn't understand, famous parents who he couldn't live up to and who weren't around, sent away to his uncle who put a lot of pressure on him, manipulated by Snoke from a very young age, discovered everyone he loved lied to him, perhaps accidentally killed his fellow students in a fit of anger, taken in and fooled by Snoke...

I don't care if you're white male prince (*sigh*), those are some pretty tricky things to combat.

the irony of not being able to empathize with or relate to Kylo Ren is that's exactly why he is who he is ~ hahahaha

@lealt is right, all: let's try to get back on topic. you can move the Kylo Ren discussion to the Kylo Ren thread:

All I got was "Rey and Kylo something something" and then my short attention span kicked in.

I am tired of reading predictable summaries about these two.
