So with the ST over and Mando not returning until Fall, we now sit back and enjoy the other branches of syfy. One of the things I enjoy most I the vastly different designs in the ships, some a large unstoppable monsters while other are sleek. We talk about X-wings, A-wings and Star Destroyers and make a lot of comparisons to other ships so why not have a thread about them. Everyone knows I am a Trekkie by heart. I love the Enterprise(all versions). It is a great ship that moves a city worth of people through out the black(Firefly) yet she can hold her own in a battle. It takes us to so many new worlds and issue.
    enterprise.jpg

Then we have Serenity. She is old needs a little more time but if you treat her right she will take you any where in the Verse. She is home. She doesn't have any weapons but dang what a ship. I feel she is one of the main characters in the Firefly.
    serenity .jpg

Now Farscape had a great idea, Pilot and Moya. The Leviathans. The living ships.
The big beautiful creatures traveling trough space. Farscape-Moya-Leviathan-005.jpg
I would love to have a open talk about all ships, we can compare them side by side or talk who is going to hold up in a battle. How would Gallatica and its Vipers hold up against a Star Detroyer and its Ties? Would the Lexx be able to take out a Borg cube? Or just post ships that you think are amazing. How would the crew make the difference on being the underdog?

I started this after reading @Lock_S_Foils space battles thread. We may be missing them in the movies but we can talk about them here.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the X-302 from Stargate.

I really enjoyed being the captain of the 'SSV Normandy' in the Mass Effect game series:

    - Vipers where built with the premise, that they would be outnumbered by Raiders, and still pull it of
    - Tie fighters were built to win with swarm tactics

So, if vipers can tackle a swarm of Raiders, I guess they could also handle a swarm of Tie fighters. But...

    - Vipers are built with thick armor oriented at withstanding kinetic weapons, which won't do them much good against lasers
    - Tie fighters would bleed when they took a punch from the mass autocannon, but I guess would still make it.

    1.jpg

In this sense, and given same skilled pilots, I think that gradually Tie fighters would gain the upper hand. Now, you give me a squadron of these babies (missile boats - Star Wars), and Adama will be running.

I agree that Rama should be on any list.(maybe someday the movie will get made)
I think Tie also have maneuvering over the vipers.
Yet when it comes to having back up I think the BattleStars may be the better choice.

I have always thought these little guys where under rated. They have so many configurations.

I love Space 1999, it is a great show that doesn't get a lot of attention.

The Normandy is wonderful. I also really love the Reapers. Not technically ships, but I'm surprised we hadn't seen something similar to it in the Clone Wars. A massive, synthetic capital-ship style thing would be neat, even if it doesn't end up going rogue.

Video games are obviously a big goldmine for stuff like this. Halo has some beauties as well.

    - Star Wars : Calamari cruiser | X & Y & A & B wings
    - Stargate : Aurora-class battleship
    - Star Trek : Enterprise E (there was another smaller but more combat oriented one. If anyone remembers, it can have that one)

    Who wins ?

Not sure about Stargate, but this person seems to think Star Wars would come out on top against the Empire pretty handily. Even puts Slave 1 over the Enterprise-D (which seems absurd, but they make a decent case.

My top three of all time.

    1. Millennium Falcon - Need I say more!

    2. USS Enterprise-D - As a 80's child and 90's teenager, Star Trek was my weekly Sci-fi fix, especially TNG. I loved this ship and was gutted when it was destroyed in Generations and replaced with the E.

    3. Battlestar Galactica (2003) - My favourite ship from my favourite TV show of all time.

The table is very strange. I mean everything is X * fold up for the Star Wars universe. I checked the first source : Star Wars Episode II Incredible Cross-Sections (SW2ICS) and by the looks of it, it's a series : https://www.amazon.com/Curtis-Saxton/e/B001IGO87Q/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1

    LucasFilm has licence rights; https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Incredible-Cross-Sections-Definitive/dp/0756611296
(After the Jedi Daring page or the last page).

So I guess these numbers are true; I will check the Star Trek source to be sure.

Starships in sci-fi's are among my favourite things about science fiction, I have many favourites and some have been mentionened already.

From Star Trek I have ships like USS Voyager
    download (5).jpeg
And of course the USS Enterprise (specifically Enterprise-D)
    USS_Enterprise-D,_TNG_Season_3-7.jpg
One thing that I find the most cool about the Starships in Star Trek are how you can really tell the difference between 'old ships' and the 'new ships'. Enough from Star Trek I also am a fan of the ships from 2001: A Space Odyssey
    download (1).jpeg
    download.jpeg
    download (4).jpeg
And from the Alien franchise, the Nostromo is a cool ship too
    USCSS_Nostromo.jpg
    2464e02adea43518bf20a7952415e0d8.jpg
Stephen Baxters novel 'Raft' has a cool starship, though its more of a colony
    Xa2ZwqkjXQJds-qIsormRg-LGZk5pJ4QrpISfmvcI4M.jpg
Thats some of my favourites, but some honorable mentions for me could be:
    Spacewrecks GCX 633
    Spacewrecks TTA Survey ship D-3
    Spacewrecks PCF 848
Frank Herberts Dune has a few starships, and so does Jodorowsky's Dune

I was never that crazy about the Enterprise-D from TNG, inside or out. I prefer the Original (Refit) and Enterprise-A from the first 6 movies.

I always thought the Klingons had the coolest ships in Star Trek though, except the interiors which look like the inside of a garbage truck.

The Romulan Bird Of Prey was pretty snazzy too
