i'm super wary of these photo comparisons. they don't offer any proof of Snoke regenerating. i think the slight differences can be explained by different director/DP, different lighting in the scene, the fact that we see Snoke in person and not via hologram, etc.

if Snoke is regenerating then he would have had to do it in a very small window of time: TLJ starts right on the heels of TFA, so it's not like Snoke has been sitting around rubbing Force creams on his face to look prettier in the interim.

using photo comparisons, can't we also say that Kylo Ren is regenerating? i mean, his scar does move between TFA and TLJ!

i'm not sure who Snoke is or what his goals are, but the Force vampirism thing just doesn't sit right with me; it seems like a weak direction to take. it also begs the question, if TLJ ends with Rey in Snoke's grasp, does that mean that Snoke will sap her of her powers and leave her as some husk for ep. 9? seems unlikely that they'll do this to Rey, the new hero of this trilogy, but i guess that would raise the stakes and could prompt Luke to come to the rescue, or Kylo Ren to turn good to defend Rey.

piggy backing off that train of thought, if Rey is some dried up non-Force zombie thing (or whatever happens when you get the Force sucked out of you) come ep. 9, will she ever recover? is there going to be some lame "Snoke dies and all the pent up Force essence in his body flies out and makes people whole again" type scene, like Ursula and the souls in Little Mermaid? sounds trite and unappealing to me...

I see why you might think this, and I have my own arguments for him being a Whill, but how can we say that he resembles a race which we haven’t actually even seen in canon yet?

And for clarity: the Force Priestesses might be connected to the Whills, but everything we know points to them not being Whills themselves.

This is already a Star Wars story in "Legends"...

The entire theory reminds me of Jedi Tel Angor of the Order of the Silver Jedi and how he became a Force Vampire...interesting. To me, this could be something that was pulled off of the Legends shelf and re-written. It'd be ESPECIALLY interesting to find out that Snoke was also a former Jedi Knight.

It simply won't come to the point where anyone is sucked "dry" by Snoke the force "dementor" or sthg similar.
Because Ben - fueled by the "false" reasons like revenge in the first place - will join forces with Rey and they could flee together, perhaps they join even with Luke at the very end, and all three of them (Luke, Ben and Rey) could overcome Snok..
and they could live happily ever after..
    or sthg like that :D

For this to work, I think it'd have to be a skill somewhere between Force Drain and Force Vampirism. As Trevor informs, Tel Angor, a former Jedi, became a Force Vampire who could only survive by feeding off the force in others. Angor's feeding would sever connections to the force to the point even the dead bodies had no force in them.

I mean, just for clarity for those who don’t know: this is Legends material.

I’ll be honest, I think that what they’ve been hinting at in the canon novels seems to be the best way to go with Snoke. I think that there are some interesting ideas in Force Drain abilities, but I don’t think that it’s best epitomised by a character such as Tel Angor.

I think that Darth Nihilus would perhaps be a more appropriate character to compare Snoke to, in terms of potential Force Drain abilities.

Yeah, while Legends material isn't canon, it's obvious they are pulling inspiration from it in the new canon.

so in the end the Force vampirism threat isn't even a threat? no one gets the Force drained from them and there are no stakes in Snoke having this power to begin with?

people are worried that Rey may turn to the dark side; how would that fit in with Snoke sapping her power? the main source of drama in all of these films hinges on whether the protagonist will turn to the dark side or do the right thing. Rey being Force-chow for Snoke diminishes that struggle, unless the focus switches to Kylo Ren's struggle in watching Rey be consumed by Snoke. that ends up feeling like a disservice to Rey's character, though.

also, again, it begs asking: why doesn't Snoke just consume Kylo Ren, the heir apparent of the Skywalkers? why wait for Rey? did he know about her to begin with, or was he just hoping she'd pop up?

the Snoke = Force vampire theory really doesn't work for me. i could punch holes in it all day.

Feel free to punch around. It's always satisfying to have punching balls to get rid of every days life frustrations :)
As I am a SW-fan it's just fun to speculate around and discuss, it's a spring of inspiration to get feedback and input from all sides, even if some incoming comments sound a little bit destructive sometimes.
Feel free to make a thread of your taste

could be the difference between a big gulp and a sippy cup, though?
he doesn't need to suck them dry. what if it's a more lengthy process--long term sustenance?
also, he can't afford to let them get too strong, therefore won't allow Ren any companions that might gang up--and he deliberately keeps Ren befuddled and weak.

i still contend that Snoke thinks little of Rey at this point. his only desire to have her is to keep her from distracting Ren. that all could change in TLJ of course, as she grows more powerful, but it seems like Snoke has what he wants (the perfect blend of Light and Dark, which he keeps in tasty conflict continuously). the rest of the Jedi/FS peeps are just liabilities.

them's my thoughts anyway ~ this idea has been kicking around a long time, so there are a number of possibilities/variants on it.

Sure, they’ve pulled some great things from Legends so far, and it’s pretty clear they’ll be dipping back into it in the future.

I was only clarifying that your suggestion, for those who weren’t aware, was a part of Legends, as it didn’t seem clear whether he was canon or Legends from reading your comment myself.

don't get the wrong idea. it's nothing personal. we're talking about Star Wars theories for crying out loud.

i see your point, the Force drain doesn't need to be an immediate thing, but that's another issue i feel weird about. to have his power be a long term threat makes it seem almost like a non-threat to me. would the idea be for Rey to be imprisoned so Snoke would munch away at his leisure?

it seems weird that he would use a Force drain technique to cure his physical injuries when everywhere else in the SW universe people either go into bacta tanks or use mechanical means to carry on (looking at you, Grievous). Snoke healing himself via stealing the Force from people is a departure from this established norm. not even the legend of DP talks about healing people with the dark side, only creating life and preventing people from dying.

the new EW article talking about Snoke is super interesting. the fact that he's physically scarred and that that is driving a lot of his anger and hatred is intriguing.

the article talks about how Snoke is driven by hatred and anger and a desire for revenge, and that he is very powerful in the dark side. if he's very powerful in the dark side already, why isn't he working on healing himself with what he has? i guess he may need more juice to finish the job?

i like that he has a huge grudge against the Republic/Resistance. i really wonder what happened to him and why he's all scarred up that way. the article talks about how his wounds are similar to something like WW1 trench wounds; perhaps he was banged up during the Clone Wars? that would make more sense than during some Imperial occupation as he seems quite ready to use the old Empire to help him gain power. maybe he was aligned with the separatists during the Clone Wars, was young and so didn't have the Force abilities to defend himself, and he got caught in a bad situation.

it is a departure ~ hence interesting (to me at least).

i hate Snoke so much at this point that i don't care what his problem is ~ hahahaha
he may yet turn out to be a tragic creature, but his unwillingness to let go of all that hate and anger will ultimately lead to his doom, i think. s
o whether he's Force-sucking or just messing with Ben for personal reasons (revenge on Luke/the Jedi), i think he's going to be toast by the end of the trilogy.

i still don't see him having any use for Rey. Ren Ben might be stupid enough to think he would (and therefore try to leverage with her), but that's what's ultimately going to turn Ben against the fishy-eyed toilet monster.

I’ve never really bought into Snoke and the Force draining. I could be wrong. Even if he is Force draining people I really don’t think he is regenerating.
