SPECULATION I wonder, will Johnson's trilogy have Jedi?

    Obviously, we know nothing about RJ's new trilogy (and he probably doesn't know much about it himself yet, judging form his recent comments), but I wonder if it is safe to assume it will contain/revolve around Jedi? I mean, can Star Wars handle a multi-film plot without Jedi? (Or some can't-believe-it's-not-Jedi). Or are the Jedi too ingrained in the fabric of Star Wars? Could a 3-movie saga about characters like Finn or Solo or Lando or Leia or Rose etc. work in Star Wars without the juxtaposition of deep lore Jedi stuff going on?

    I'm not trying to dis SW or anything; I'm genuinely wondering what you guys & galls think about this. Is it safe to assume RJ's new trilogy will -- and must, even -- contain Jedi (or similar)?

    :)

    I'm not sure what route Rian Johnson wants to take, but it has to coincide with Disney's plan to strech Star Wars out as far as they can. Its evident that certain aspects of the saga have to stay intact if it is to occur in the same galaxy, such as:

    * The Force
    * Space Battles
    * Lightsabers

    These three elements are key to any Star Wars product, since they belong exclusively to the saga, and attract people inward.

    So jedi or not, I think it's safe to say that the force will have to do with it.
    Judging by Rian's Broom Kid, and the title of the movie he just made.....I'm just gonna say yes.

    We've seen seen the Knights of Ren and read about the Acolytes in Empire's End/canon, both non sith dark side factions. I would LOVE to see non jedi force warriors. This IMO made Maz Kanata much more intriguing then had she not been fs.

    I honestly am OK with a totally different direction for this Trilogy, i.e. no Jedi, Sith, or......deep breath....light sabers.

    HOWEVER, I do have 2 requirements for any movie(s) to be called "Star Wars" in a Trilogy format (i.e. not standalone)

    1. The Star Wars logo blasting onto the screen, accompanied by an awesome fanfare

    2. An opening crawl

    Although I am a huge fan of John Williams and traditional orchestral arrangements....I also would be OK with someone like Hans Zimmer doing the scores for this trilogy.

    I think that Johnson enjoys the weird and mystical too much to not have Jedi in it.

    If we have Jedi, I'd love to see an ancient iteration of the Jedi, like the Jed'aii from Dark Horse's "Dawn of the Jedi" series who embraced the Ashla (light side), the Bogan (dark side) and the Bendu (the middle). Perhaps by the end of the trilogy, we could see this fracture into the Jedi/Sith division we know and love.

    Love the part about the trilogy ending with the formation of the sith and jedi. I also wouldn't mind seeing the creation of the first lightsaber. The introduction of new force weapons a must. What kind of weapons would a pre-lightsaber force sensitive warrior group use? The force from a completely different perspective.

    Now that would be interesting- and would technically fit in well with the statement that it's "not Knights of the Old Republic."

    I certainly want some films soon where we get to see lots of Jedi at the height of their powers, we've only really had that int the prequels, the rest of the films weve had one or 2 jedi normally either again or in training.

    No jedi for this trilogy. We already had 9 movies about them.

    RJ will come with something completly different.

    Cool, but will it still be Star Wars then? (That's sort of what I was wondering about... whether a series completely sanitized of any Jedi stuff would still feel like Star Wars, or if it will become something else entirely? I'd be happy for a series focused on other things, but I'm a little afraid that it would just be another, different SciFi thing with little connection to the established franchise. Will a non-Jedi SciFi trilogy feel like Star Wars?)

    Ok look, there is a short-list about "what Star Wars is about", and that list includes (first and foremost) the Skywalkers, the Force, Jedi Knights, and the Sith. Now, one may argue that now that the EU has been stricken from the books, that it's NOT about the Jedi and Sith, but merely about the Skywalkers, and if you knew NOTHING of Legends, that might be true.

    Now in the OT, we never really got to see what a Jedi Knight actually was, we only knew of the lore from Ben and Yoda, and aside from Luke becoming a seemingly self-proclaimed Jedi Knight...we never really got to see one...until the PT.

    When the PT arrived we got Jedi...LOTS of them, and while there was still some semblance of what they originally were, they had gradually and almost completely become the personal "Special Forces of the Republic" and then came their downfall, and while we did get to see the Jedi "behind the scenes" in council meetings etc, the story was still more or less Anakin-centric.

    As of late, we have seen RJ point out (literally in photos) certain elements and instances from the book "The Jedi Path" that have essentially become canon with the release of TLJ, which brings me to my "Jedi point": There is an entire galaxy of Jedi on the shelf in the form of Legends. Like in "The Jedi Path" (if you've read it) we learn that The Jedi Order is not merely two dimensional, and within that order, there are three "factions of Jedi Knights known as the Consulars, Sentinels, and the Guardians, that all come from a slightly different school of thought and skillset.

    I am of the firm belief, that BECAUSE the pool of usable SW parts (Legends) is SO deep in Jedi and Sith, that we are going to see one or both again...I believe that the bulk of the SW fanbase craves it...more Jedi...more Sith.

    I believe we're going to get it, especially since RJ has been referencing "The Jedi Path"...and other reasons.

    Sadly, RJ is a real experienced writer, he won't do any cool things that SW fans crave. He will write a story which he is compelled to tell, and I look forward to it. I want to see Jedi, but I'm open to whatever RJ comes up with because he is the storyteller, he is commissioned with this task to give us the audience a faithful tale, not write a story where he can service the fans.

    You've got me there, but I don't necessarily know if I expect "fan service" per se, as much as I DO expect RJ to tell me a story.

    My view is somewhat driven by the fact that LFL wiped the slate of thousands of years of SW history (not that I was ever personally deep in the EU) that they are somewhat obligated to "replace", and I'm kind of figuring that RJ's trilogy may be the beginning of that.

    Like you, I want a STORY, but give us something back that we already had before Disney...give us something new, yet with perhaps some things that are familiar and relatable to what we know and/or have known. When I say that I think of Rogue One which was removed from the Saga (mostly), but I knew it was Star Wars, and it was a story...give me that...with Jedi. :)

    RJ taught me a life lesson with TLJ, people change, people don't stay the same as they get older, we change and mature. Whenever I crave a good SW tale I pick up one of the many books I have on my book shelf to satiate my cravings. TPM also taught me a lesson, watch a film openly and don't expect anything, if you don't like it, film is art and that fine, but if you watch a film expecting things then you are ruining the film for yourself.

    Good writers don't pander to the fans and when they do the critics crucify them. So when ever I go to a Star Wars film I leave at the door, all preconceived notions, before entering the theater, maybe thats why I have enjoyed all the Star Wars films. I come hear to speculate and talk SW with my fellow fans. I enjoy healthy conversation. not here to talk about how much I hate a film thats a complete utter waste of my time.

    Jedi = semantics
    People with the force using lightsabres = most likely.

    It has to have Jedi/Sith or alternatively (although not preferably in my case) a new type of Force users. Sorry I keep repeating myself in various threads, but not basing the new trilogy around the Force would be a huge mistake, because this is what's the best about Star Wars. Yes, bounty hunters, war etc. are cool, but I don't want to get a whole trilogy about it. That kind of stuff is perfect for spin-offs. I also don't see Disney/LFL stepping away from the marketing potential and gigantic popular appeal of Jedi, lightsabers and so on.

    Yeah, clean slate, yada, yada... But there must be a reason for it being a part of this franchise. Sure, the universe is big, but it does stop being Star Wars at some point. There must be a connection. I see no point in creating basically a completely new universe and slapping Star Wars label on it.

    So in general, I hope Rian's trilogy will be approximately as different than what we know as PT was compared to OT. Which is very different yet familiar at the same time.
