    Hey, y’all!
Let’s have a fun speculation about already established 2nd & 3rd tier characters returning for the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron film (December 2023).

So, no 1st tier characters (Luke, Leia, Han, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Padmé, Ben, Rey, Poe, or Finn). Furthermore, I think it’s very unlikely we’ll see older actors returning (Billie Dee Williams, Denis Lawson, etc.), and neither are their characters big enough to bother de-age and such (easier just to use new characters). Feel free to suggest such great talent and actors, but personally I don’t think it likely, unless we’re talking someone in an ageless suit (Anthony Daniels).

    Caveats:
For the purpose of this discussion, we assume that SW:RS will take place post-ST. The following statement from the announcement seems (to me, at least) to indicate as much:
"The story will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy."

Also, no cameos (i.e. legacy actors showing up in Stormtrooper armors or legacy character in a background picture, or whatever – none of that stuff counts). The choices need to be actual, featured, speaking-part characters of SW:RS. Let’s have some fun!

If this is a Post ST film, I think what I'm most intrigued by is seeing what type of state the Galaxy is in and what's the governance like in a post TROS era.

Well. It's looking pretty bleak for RS (Rian Johnson trilogy echo). Everywhere I'm looking it's not looking at all promising. We'll just have to wait and see.

They are great at announcing projects... Not so much with bringing them to fruition it seems to me. I wasn't all that excited about this film tbh, but this trend of announcing and then cancelling films is getting old.

I'm thinking Connix is pretty much a cert, plus perhaps BB-8 as he can appear even if Poe or any of the other known ST faces aren't around or only mentioned rather than seen.

I'd like to say that 3PO or R2 could be there, but I think the fact that they're so intrinsically linked to the Skywalker Saga that if LfL want to build a wider universe away from these even those characters need to be parked now.

Definitely my highlight for the movie as well.

It's certainly not just Lucasfilm, but yeah, they're probably the most high-profile case of it, with the runner-ups being DC (which has actually gotten most of their products filmed and/or scheduled for filming these past few years) and the Monsterverse stuff a few years back.

I weirdly have more hope for the RJ trilogy than I do for most of the other Star Wars movies right now (D+ shows are fine). I think the only four I believe will happen are Fiege's movie, Rogue Squadron, RJ's trilogy, and Taika Waititi's movie (if only barely).

As for legacy characters, Ko Connix, C-3PO, and R2-D2 feel like guarantees to me. The rest are hit-and-miss. And as much as I'd like to see Rose back, I'm really not sure if KMT wants to step back into that spotlight...

SW is a huge, presigious pay-check for an actor so I'm sure Kelly Marie Tran would jump at the chance to do another one. Also, by all accounts, she had a blast making the movies (although less fun interacting with fans afterwards), and if Billie Lourd is in it, I'm certain that Tran will be game, too :)

Don't get me started on DC... Seems like they have finally gotten their heads out of their anal rectums, at least for now (knock on wood).

Ha! I feel you. I can't tell if I'm glad at their direction or annoyed at their choices some days. Regardless, I'm here for the wild ride.

Same. I will say I love the trailers for The Batman and the Flash film as well as Black Adam. And I am looking forward to seeing Shazam pt. 2. You'd think I'd be checked out by now, but here I am. LOL
