    I don't know if anyone has pointed this out (besides me in a couple other threads: I'm obsessed now!), but there's an additional mystery. When Rey has the flashback after she touches Luke's lightsaber, for a few seconds, she's in a corridor. It's clearly not a part of the castle, nor is it a part of the setting of the Jedi academy massacre that we cut to after a few seconds. In fact, it looks like the corridor of a First Order/Imperial ship - very much like the one that Finn marches Poe down when he's helping him escape.

    But this leaves a huge mystery. This is before Rey has been captured, and for all that we've seen, she's never been on a First Order ship. So what is this a memory of? Since it cuts directly to the Jedi academy massacre, had she been on a First Order/Imperial ship during that period? Was she taken aboard one after the massacre? If so, why, and by whom?

    Or, since the shot of her in the corridor is before the shots of the massacre, did she perhaps even arrive at the Jedi academy on the First Order/Imperial ship that carried the Knights of Ren there in order to commit the massacre? This is an equally fascinating possibility.

    Or, was the memory from a different time? It's strongly suggested that what's happening here is that memories that she's suppressed are being made to surface, which in turn suggests that she had been on the First Order/Imperial ship when she was a small child. Or is there another explanation?

    Speculations, people! I demand them! Ummm, pretty please?

    I don't think it's a memory of hers.
    In fact, I think the only bit that is a memory of her own, is when her family abandon her on Jakku.

    Force visions are strange like that.

    Wow, that never even occurred to me! This opens up a new can of worms: if this part of her flashback wasn't her own memory, what if the massacre at the Jedi temple wasn't either? What if she had been spirited away before the massacre happened? More than this, what if she had never even been to the Jedi academy?

    Mind effectively blown...

    I think she sees into the future, also did you hear Obi one's voice? Yeah when she touches it, you hear Darth Vader, hence cloud city corridors.

    @ArynCrinn above claimed it was the voice of Luke shouting "Noooo!" from his encounter with Vader on Bespin. Arghhh, I must pay attention for this the next time I see it!!!

    Yeah during that scene my friend said did you hear obi one's voice? I did hear a faint voice, 3rd times the charm my friend :p Going to watch it so much!

    I think it's entirely possible that Rey was never even at the academy.
    Aside from how quickly she seems to pick up Force abilities, there's really nothing else to say she was there.
    Was she dropped off on Jakku, or had she always lives there?
    Does Rey reject the lightsaber because it's a reminder her of the past... or because it's showing her terrible, unfamiliar things that she just doesn't want to see?

    Rey's identity is, for me at least, the big mystery of the sequel trilogy that I'm excited to learn about. I'm glad they didn't reveal it in this movie...


    I haven't heard Obi-wan's yet... but I've heard Yoda.
    I need to watch it again... mutliple times.


    There are several different "voices" during the whole sequence.
    Vader breathing, Luke, Yoda, Obi-wan, kid Rey, Unkar, someone saying "Rey"... and someone saying "these are your/the (I can't quite make it out in the cam recording) first steps."

    I just read it as: Lightsaber's past; Kylo Ren's past; Rey's past; then the future, where the destinies of all three eventually become intertwined.

    What was the First Order corridor about?
    Personally, I'm not so sure it had any more significance other than to provide a harsh change in environment that signposts something unusual is going on, a world Rey has yet to experience. It's kind of her future, it's kind of abstract, it's kind of setting up this is "not really happening" as it crumbles away.

    i said this in another thread but i could have sworn that the voice u hear that says " Rey" during the flashback is Alec Guinness as Obi Wan. the corridor from bespin is a cool discovery

    The biggest set-up in the flashback was likely that ship leaving Jakku when Rey was a child. We'll see it again.

    I thought I was the only one who thought he heard Obi Wan Kenobi. Glad to see I'm not the only nutjob in here.

    The flashback scene I'm definitely going to analyze the hell out of when it drops on Youtube. I was kind of disappointed we didn't get more Knights of Ren stuff.

    I instantly thought it was Bespin, and was for a second expecting to see some footage of that ESB fight from a different angle. Glad we didn't though.

    I'm with most of you lot too, that definitely sounded like Ben saying Rey.

    There are certainly reasons to believe they were planning to do that originally.

    Having studied the audio again, here's what I hear:

    *Vader breathing*
    *Scream* (Sounds a little bit like Leia)
    Yoda: "An energy field (with echo)... It surrounds us and binds us."
    *Luke screaming "no" from Empire is blended in with Yoda's last line*
    Ben: "Remember (with echo)... The force will be with you, always."
    *Scream* (Inuman - sounds like a Tusken Raider)
    *Scream* (Female, unknown)
    Young Rey: "Come back!"
    Unkar Plutt: (Restraining Rey) "Quiet, girl."
    *Scream* (Female, unkown)
    Unknown male: "Rey?" (Does sound like Alec Guinness)
    Unknown male: (Whispering) "These are your first steps."
