So forgive my ignorance if it's been discussed before, but is it true Han does die in this film? If so, how does he die? Is it dramatic? Is there some awesome John Williams music like with Qui-Gon's death?

You might be able to still find the scene somewhere on the internet...

otherwise, here's a transcription of it:

(Han and Chewie are planting charges)
(Kylo Ren senses Han through the Force and changes his path to investigate)
(Han and Chewie are planting charges)
(Kylo Ren walks out onto bridge)
    (Han reveals himself)

KYLO REN: Han Solo. I've been waiting for this day for a long time.
HAN SOLO: Take off that mask. You don't need it.
KYLO REN: What do you think you'll see if I do?
HAN SOLO: The face of my son.
    (pause)
KYLO REN: Your son, is gone. He was weak and foolish like his father. So I destroyed him.
HAN SOLO: That's what Snoke wants you to believe. But it's not true. My son is alive.
KYLO REN: No. The Supreme Leader is wise.
HAN SOLO: Snoke is using you for your power. When he gets what he wants, he'll crush you. You know it's true.
    KYLO REN: It's too late.
HAN SOLO: No it's not. Leave here with me. Come home. We miss you.
KYLO REN: I'm being torn apart. I want to be free of this pain... and I know what I have to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it. Will you help me?
    HAN SOLO: Yes, anything.
(Kylo drops helmet, and offers his lightsber to Han)
    (Kylo activates lightsaber though Han)
    REY: Noooooo!
    KYLO REN: Thank you.
(Leia feels death through the Force)
(Chewie growls, and fires bowcaster at Kylo)

How did the audience react to Han's demise? I'm curious to know that

It was very dramatic and quite emotional. (We never actually see Han dying; he get's pierced and falls off the inevitable high place that must be in every Star Wars film ;) but he disappears in mist. Now, it would take a great deal of exposition to explain how Han could have survived, but it is, theoretically, a posibility. No death scene, no funeral. Although, Leia does have a reaction shot ala Kenobi when Alderan gets blown up in ANH, but that could be a reaction to Kylo Ren as well. So, In ALL likelyhood, Han died, but it was not 100% confirmed by the movie).

Something tells me that getting lightsabered in the belly, falling into a pit and getting blowed up is something you'd die from. Possibly.

He's dead Jim, and honestly I think if they do some Deus Ex Machina nonsense and bring him back in Episode 8 or 9 I will not be happy with that

That was by far and above the hardest scene to watch in the entire movie. I mean, yeah, we all suspected it would happen, and you could see it coming a mile off, but when it actually happened.... My hands were over my mouth. I couldn't believe they'd actually gone through with it, especially since he was in a good chunk of the movie before that, and you just started to get back into feeling for the old scoundrel. I think the cinema I was in was somewhere in between a sharp intake of breath and silence. A sad day for us all. :(

Yeah, as soon as he was saying goodbye to Leia we could see it coming. Seeing it coming and watching it happen were completely different things though. It's kind of odd to be sitting there in stunned silence despite knowing exactly what was coming.

I've seen it twice, once in a theatre with maybe 500 people, and tonight in one with about 120. The same thing happened both times - stunned silence for the most part with a few tears being shed.

Harrison Ford has been on board for this sequel for a long time. I would be curious to know how much influence he had in stepping out after the first film. Does this mean we will now get ominous voice overs from Han Solo?

I am a bit envious, but at the same time thankful I got to watch this in a theater of about 20 people.

The lightsaber is not embedded inside of Han Solo, and is clearly used in following sequences by Kylo Ren.

Han got a bum deal out of joining the alliance, didn't he? There he was, living the dream, free as a bird, girl in every starport, hanging out in all the fun places, then he meets the Skywalkers, falls in love, gives his all to defeat evil and his son ends up as a dark jedi and kills him. Poor Han, should have went with your gut instinct, paid off Jabba and got as far away from the Skywalkers as possiible.

I pretty much knew it would happen but still, I was kinda paralyzed till the end of the movie because just how effective it was. The audience has been also shocked and stone solid, motionless, coping still in the seats as the credits were rolling.

I strongly think this was the most heartbreaking thing in the whole saga so far.

Losing Obi-Wan in the Episode 4 wasn't that shocking, "No. I am your father." wasn't that shocking either (atleast they all lived to see another day) and what could have been devastating in the Episode 3, well it wasn't because all of the bad prequels.
