It appears that afteral we were right. Though this is inconsequential now, Snoke was obviously considered as Cronal type of character which we foresighted long ago.

Probably a former Emperor's dark side prophet, a force user within ranks of the Imperial intelligence in the same time.
He dwelled deep into the Dark side which also take a tool on his body.
He probably also had access to secrets of Darth Vader's temple on Mustafar (he has a ring originating from Vader's castle.)

Thread in which we, (it seems probable now), actually decoded Snoke's agenda long time ago:
    .Case for Snoke

They did that just as much if not more when it was Lucasfilm and the prequels. Darth Bane's invention of the Rule of Two was introduced in the TPM novelisation.

    * Can change at any time if we want it to. We prefer our stories come accompanied with a grain of salt**.

** Grains of salt are an extra $4.99.

    Fixed that for you.

The irony is The Last Jedi is going to end up like so many movies taken from books and people say, “The book is better.” The problem is the novel was not written first!

I just don't know how I survived the original trilogy without backstories on Vader/Palpatine.

I think Yoda also mentioned the rule of two during his conversation with Darth Bane's spirit in TCW.

When we watched Original trilogy there was previous span of 40 000+/- years of Galactic history about which nobody knew nothing (now we do) which could have culminated in mighty Emperor in gazillion of scenarios and ways.

Now, there was 30 years of galactic history about which nobody knew nothing...and voila'.. there is Snoke spinning Rey in the air by moving his finger , (and touched Ben Solo's eyebrows while he was a kid...).

Just spit-balling here, but maybe because at the time of the OT, it was the only available SW material at the time

Disney's partnership with EA makes total sense. Ironic (and very sad) that Star Wars is now in the hands of an evil Empire.

The Phantom Menace predates both of those, and it actually talks about Darth Bane himself. Before Drew Karpeshyn wrote the Darth Bane Novel, etc. A movie Novelization gave you more backstory than the movie did. Go figure.

Yea but the Emperor was the Emperor, an archetypal villain. It was an archetypal conflict. The OT didn’t require backstory because it was its own thing. The backstory you got was enough to explain the current conflict.

We are no 8 episodes in this saga.

Snoke is supposed to be an ancient powerful dude who came out of nowhere. Why? what are his motivations? Instead, he’s just Emperor 2.0. How did reunite the Empire?

Without those explanations, it just comes off as rehashing plot lines and conflicts from other movies because there’s not much difference between the First Order and the Empire.

I'm quite tired of people comparing Snoke's lack of backstory to Palpatine's lack of backstory, in reference to quality of TLJ.

It's a very good argument. That's probably why you're tired of seeing it. :)

This isn't a story about Snoke. The story is about Rey/Ben. I'm sure Lucasfilm will it explain it to those who want to know, but the general audience doesn't have to know. I don't really care.

I know as a kid around the time ROTJ came out I was sooooo interested in knowing who was Anakin when he was this sort of amazing Jedi....

Did not think as much till much later about Palpatine but always hoped the rumours of GL making another trilogy would come true and then there was that long gap - 10 to 15 years of nothing bar the Special Editions which for me only stoked the Anakin backstory interest more.

This Trilogy did not need Snoke if he is not tied in with the past and story of Vader. Kylo could have adopted and explored the dark side without Snoke. As of today, Snoke is just a contrived filler villain.
