STD wasn't as divisive as the Orville; watching and waiting to see which series gets cancelled first.

I am not a Trekkie by any means, but I really liked Captain Archer.

I've not seen this on yet either. What is divisive about it?

I really hope these Klingons are an "ancient sect" of the race to explain why they look different and it would be supported by their ship being really old. I hope we see these klingons interact with crestless ones as well as a few "normal" ones. I will remain cautious as the series progresses. But as of now I hope these characters don't return in a second season and instead continue with the anthology idea (so we can finally get Captain Worf like Michael Dorn has been wanting to since Nemesis).

nope - they are the leaders of the 24 hours and rulers of the council. Main stream klingons.

But the main stream Klingons don't have crests at this point in history. Also I remember one of the trailers had a line of dialogue something about the other Klingons being impure because of human influence (which I assume is interference to the human DNA being used to cure them in Enterprise).

this show isn't concerned with contunity. It was clearly designed to take place after Abrams movies, and then just stuck in the prime timeline cause they thought it would appeal to the hardcores.

No - the impure thing is human culture and Klingons living beside us in peace instead of conquiring us as their nature would dictate. Its about unity and a return to glory for them, not a literal DNA impurity.

Continuity should be the first thing they are concerned with. If they didn't want to worry about continuity then they should have set it during one of the gaps in time like the 75 years in between TOS and TNG.

I would say how I feel, but:

Really though, franchise continuity aside, it was a good story.

Didn't see it. Common themes I'm seeing in reviews are wooden dialogue and questionable character development with Micheal Burnham.
One things for certain, Les got paid.
I'm gonna hold till next week maybe to get 3 episodes in on the the trail sub.

I really liked Enterprise and I feel that Captain Archer was a great addition to the group of Captains we had, plus he was way more likable than Captain Janeway.

To be fair I never really liked any of the pilot episodes of the previous Star Treks and even The Next Generation was very wooden at first.

okay i watched it. here are my observations:
    • my favorite part was the first seven minutes of the first half. i liked the weird creatures in the desert and them solving the water problem.
    • love the design of the opening credits. very classy.
    • i feel like there was a good balance between weird world building, science/tech, and old fashioned human drama/action.
    • don't like the costumes for the klingons; they remind me of weird elizabethan ruffs or that bizarre armor from the dracula movie. eh.
    • i liked the albino klingon guy.
    • too much in love with klingon speech. i appreciate their dedication to it, but i wandered off in the middle of them talking several times.
    • didn't really fall in love with any of the characters. i liked the captain, but not Michael so much until the very end. her hot-headedness was kinda aggravating.
    • that said, i especially liked how she solved the problem of getting out of the you-know-what.
    • not a fan of that famous vulcan being a character in this and i really miss the original actor. : o (
    • why did they go alone to try to catch the dude? was all the rest of the crew gone?
it ended really well and set up an interesting premise. not sure i will continue to watch it, however.
i might give the next episode a try just because i feel like all of this was just preamble for what the show is actually going to be about.
in light of all our discussion of redemption on these boards, it may yet turn into an interesting character study.

I never saw EaF when it premiered, only reruns. I do have to say that I did watch and like the premiers of the next three, tho. DS9 the best of the three.. no stupid "Yes Sir!" Dialogue fails that come to mind.
I'd still put Enterprise third. It's kinda why I was wanting this to crash and burn. 3 prequels in 20 years.. A fourth if Kahn miniseries gets made. In that 20 year spanse.. not much going going forward.
You know, the fans threw a &!$$fest over Axanar.. but they came to it's bane like rats to the piper. They have no one to blame this time.. but themselves.
