This is a question I ask because I'm unsure as to which I like better. Do you all think a SW Fan should even consider being a Trekkie?

I consider myself both. Although I lean heavily towards SW and I'm an unorthodox trekkie in that DS9 is by far my favorite Trek, but I'd still consider myself somewhat of a trekkie.

Outside of politics style branding that requires people to associate down the line and choose sides with one or the other, I see no reason why you can't like both. It's like saying you can't like two flavors of ice cream. If both are good, enjoy both. Trek and SW may both be sci-fi, but that is where their similarities end.

Trek is all science and moral philosophy. SW is action and spirituality. Different themes, different pacing, different tone, different points.

So I say go ahead and like both, just be prepared for dogmatic fans on both sides to tell you you're an idiot and that a choice of one or the other is necessary. Those people lack individuality and are choosing one side as if its a religion, not a work of art.

I wouldn't consider myself a Trekkie but I enjoyed some of the original Trek films and enjoy the new Trek as well.

Star Trek never really spoke to me, but I appreciate their fans for going above an beyond for what they love. I enjoyed both of JJ's reboot films, they were quite entertaining. Only seen a handful of episodes from the various series. I'm sure I could enjoy it if I put the time into it.

I'm the same way with Battlestar Gallactica. I watched the first season of the more recent series and I liked it OK. If I had more time to watch TV I'm sure I'd get more out of it.

I am definitely a member of both camps. I was even drifting toward being more into trek when it seemed like there would not be any more SW coming out. There is just so much content in Trek (24 tv seasons all told, plus 12 movies), that it was very appealing.

The only thing similar between Star Wars and Star Trek is that they are in space. The two are very different. Sure you have spaceships, laser guns, and aliens; but so does War of the Worlds, Avatar, and Treasure Planet.

So I think you can be both a Trekkie and Jedi-Wannabe.

The conflict between Wars and Trek is outdated in my opinion. It was born in a time when geek culture wasn’t as acceptable as it is today. In that time, it really was tough to find enough room in pop culture for two sci-fi mega-hits. So it was truly a battle to maintain ground in the public consciousness. Trek was first and it didn’t like the mega successful usurper honing in on its territory.

But that’s all long since passed. Geek culture is now pervasive and there is plenty of room for both to be extremely successful. But the fight is engrained from a generational standpoint. Trekkies and Warriors fighting it out like the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s long after anyone remembers the reason for the initial rift. I personally think it’s time to move on from the fight. There’s plenty to like in both.

How many rules of acquisition do you know?

For all Star Wars fans who enjoy Star Trek as well. I wish to tell you that The U.S.S Voyager is returning to the Delta Quadrant! That is, if you play Star Trek Online. It's the only MMO I have ever played (and the only one besides The Old Republic That I ever care to do) I like how the game continues where the shows left us.

They're making a second Voyager TV series or is this in a videogame?

Back in the 90's? Probably more than I'd like to admit.

Since the dawn of the internet age, who needs to memorize when you have memory-alpha.

No It's an expansion to a free online game called Star Trek Online. the expansion is called Delta Rising. Game starts you in the year 2409 which is about 30 years after Voyager and is a story about your character ( which can be of three factions: the Federation, The Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Republic. The game kinda tells you what happens in the Prime Universe after the destruction of the planets Romulus and Remus( remember in the first New Star Trek movies when Spock was trying to use Red Matter to try and save the Romulans homeworld but was swept back in time and then an alternate timeline was created?) Well this game shows you the events of the Prime Universe. It is a fun game, and what's cool when you first go on the game the introduction is voiced by Spock himself!

One thing I like about Star Trek Online is that some of the stories In it are compelling, exciting and sometimes moving.
But here is the Intro for the Romulans ( which in storyline is to me the best)

Finally, here is the Klingon intro to Star Trek Online.

Unfortunately the non-episode 7 parts of the boards don't see too much love, especially today with leaks gone wild.
