I didn't get into Star Trek until I was about 11, when Star Trek VI came out. I don't think I consciously avoided it but I was just so focused on Star Wars as a kid that it took some pushing for me to try anything new, left on my own I would have had the SW movies on repeat. And I basically got forced into Star Trek, it was either go see The Undiscovered Country or go see Ghost with my mom and her friend. Captain Kirk saved me from having to awkwardly sit through that sex scene with my mom. I'd never seen any of the movies or shows but I basically knew who all the characters were, you'd have to live in a cave to not even know who Kirk/Spock/McCoy were back then. I absolutely loved it and became a Trek fan immediately. I think part of it had to do with the fact that I'd just recently seen and loved The Hunt For Red October, and STVI was sort of like a naval/espionage story in space.

But for years I was just a TOS Crew guy, I didn't want anything to do with TNG or anything after until one day about 15 years ago I was hungover on the couch and the remote was out of reach when First Contact came on. So once again I was sort of forced, and I loved that too. So I wound up binging TNG and DS9 plus the rest of the movies after that.

Being a fan of both is cool though, just more stuff to enjoy. Sometimes I'll be in the mood for SW and sometimes it's ST. But I'm still more of a SW fan and always will be probably since I was practically raised on it.

Both land in my world. Love all things SCIFI. BattleStar, Firefly, Lost in space and so many more.

Yesterday I finished Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

What a show! Great finale. Now I love DS9 like I love TNG and TOS.

    Next ST series: Voyager!

    Thanks Netflix.

I just finished the first season of ST Voyager and it was just ok. Neelix seems to be such an annoying character, I hope that changes during the others seasons.
I loved Captain Janeway, Tuvok and The Doctor on the other side.

    No.

Just kidding. I really don't know why fans feel the need for competition. You have to be Marvel or DC. You have to be Star Wars or Star Trek. Etc, etc. Heck, we even have people drawing battle lines between Clone Wars and Rebels. Just enjoy things and be happy.

When I was little, I used to love Star Trek and had no interest in Star Wars. I don't remember how or why I stopped watching ST, but my best guess is fandom gods foresaw my future interest in SW and decided to take action. You can't be both, it's abomination, repent before it's too late! Change your ways before the gods unleash their wrath upon all of us!!
