Some late news today from Empire:
Very interesting news. Are they going to return to Rey/Finn and company or move out further to a different period. Rogue Squadron makes sense in that period, but it makes me wonder about Waititi's project.

I've often said I hoped Star Wars would take the films into a new era away from the Skywalker Saga, but over the last few months I've softend my position and there a lot reasons to pick up after the sequels. It's a pragmatic decision. Rey is a beloved character it would make sense tell more stories about rebuilding the Jedi Order.

From a personal point of view, I'd watch them if they brought back Ben Solo, but I will remember the petition his fans sent to Disney, a nicely worded request for them to 'resurrrect' the character that was met with a flat 'no', so I doubt if that is in the cards. Again, personally, TROS made me dislike all three of the main protagonists so I have zero interest in anything featuring them, whether DLF can come up with some interesting plotlines for them is debatable. Their track record isn't very good to be honest. I really think erasing all of the Skywalkers was a mistake.....notice how even their spin offs such as Mando and Obi Wan have featured a Skywalker. Bit hypocritical, methinks!:p

    You ever read Legacy?

Dark Horse set the table quite nicely for the Skywalker line to continue, on film.

The Felpire with their Imperial Knights, ol Bantha Rawk, some spice & death sticks, Karness Muur & sleeping beauty--- the rise and fall of Darth Krayt/ his family legacy: a multi era story, a mopey Skywalker, fun smugglers, under cover spies, lots of betrayal - the story was rich and loaded.

They might be moving beyond that generation based on her comments, but something centered on Rey/Finn would help move people past the sequel trilogy conversations.

I wonder how much lightsaber battles work into the equation? That is a huge part of Star Wars and if there's no sith or dark side users they'll have come up with something new. I'm happy they're taking some time to figure it out.

Resurrecting Ben Solo? Oh no! The only way I can deal with seeing Ben Solo in a Star Wars movie again was if the movie itself was a parody.

He was - and is - my favourite character.

I'm pretty sure there will be Sith...the words of Snoke in TLJ:
'Darkness rises, and Light to meet it.'

Rey is a 100% old fashioned 'Light Jedi', so inevitably 'Light rises...and Dark to meet it.' The cycle will continue. Nothing changes. Another reason I found TROS so disappointing.

What is a "light" Jedi? I've never heard of that before. Isn't she just a Jedi?

I honestly thought while watching TLJ that Rey would be a type of 'Grey Jedi', or at least one that would not fit into the traditional 'no attachment' role. I'll admit one of the reasons was that I was a reylo at that time, but it wasn't just based on wishful thinking. First of all, Lucas did not show the Jedi in a very good light in the PT. It seemed that it was time for a different, less rigid, order, rather like how the modern day Christian church has now started accepting women and gay priests. Daisy Ridley said post TFA that she 'didn't think' Rey would be a Jedi. The Jedi were against any sort of attachment, which we know from the prequels meant partners and families. Rey seemed to want a family very much. The life of a Jedi would not give her such a luxury. Throughout TLJ there were a lot of hints at a future where the Force would finally find a 'balance' between the Dark side and the Light...remember the mosaic which showed a yin/yang symbol, a character divided into two, one dark with a touch of light, one light with a touch of dark. Reylos believed it signified a 'coming together' of Kylo and Rey as each fit one half of the picture - Kylo a darksider who was conflicted, and still had a conscience, Rey a lightsider who was prone to being drawn to the dark...Luke himself said so in TLJ. Johnson also did something I think was interesting when both Rey and Kylo reached for the lightsabre - in TFA it seemed 'drawn' to her rather than Anakin's grandson as if it had decided she was the 'worthy' recipient yet in TLJ...it split. As if neither of them were worthy..yet. They actually made a point of showing Rey wistfully looking at children in TROS, the children she would never have as a Jedi - unless she created a new order where attachments were allowed. Yet in TROS's final scene, Terrio said that when she buried the sabres, they resembled two children, wrapped in swaddling clothing. The children Rey as a Jedi would never have. The young woman who wanted a family was shown at the end alone apart from a robot. Back in a desert where it started. Having symbolically buried her 'children'. The Jedi meanwhile, remained static, no progress, no evolvement....ultimately a darksider would rise to challenge Rey and the whole thing would start over again.

It still baffles me that Terrio and Abrams would consider a film that ended with the heroine symbolically burying her children 'hopeful and satisfying'....I found it a bit sick!

In the occult, the sword usually represents the mind and thought. In the Star Wars allegory, different colors of swords represented different aspects of consciousness. Violet, spiritual connection... blue, thought, intellect... green, emotions caring and empathy... and yellow the active will. Red for base consciousness and materiality, where we are animals just trying to survive, reproduce, and gain power in the material world. It's Anakin's blue lightsaber that severed the hand that wielded the violet lightsaber. Then Anakin severed the hand that wielded the blue lightsaber. Luke Skywalker returned centered in the heart with a green lightsaber, and severed the hand that wielded the red lightsaber. Think about it.

The broken lightsaber in TLJ I think was about the struggle in consciousness. When it was broken, it was two halves, male and female, that had to be brought back together and mended. Carl Jung called this the anima and animus. With Carl Jung's work big in Joseph Campbell's lectures, I'm guessing that's what they're aiming for.

I'm still thinking Ben and Rey may now be Reylo-- sharing one body as the force dyad. It fits the alchemy symbolism in the trilogy. They could have some governing role, moving forward as one. Rey's staff, symbolizing polarity, was broken into one yellow lightsaber. In the visible spectrum of light, yellow is a guardian position that stands between our higher qualities, and our lower animalistic qualities.

Moving forward, the possibility is open for new lightsaber colors because the Skywalker saga is done, and the meanings of the colors have been fulfilled with the final yellow lightsaber. There may be a gray jedi order, that reconciles two extremes of light and darkness, and finds balance. Jedi may have romantic relationships. Maybe more people will be force sensitive to different degrees, spirituality not reserved only for a priestly class in an authoritarian hierarchy.

I hope they jump forward in the timeline 200 years, with something new and creative, past the sequels cast- which would be boring in another movie. That could be about the right time for Grogu to enter the movies. (Maybe with the dark saber?)

I think that when and where the new films will be is down to the ST surviving cast...Daisy Ridley is still involved with Disney, John Boyega stated he is 'open to returning', as is Adam Driver, I myself think there will be a possible series featuring Rey and Finn. I would love them to bring Ben Solo back, but I doubt if they will. As far as they are concerned, Rey is the Skywalker now.

I hope they move on to something different. Felt nothing for the whole new cast. Maybe I'm just getting too old.

If they have to make one with that group, I'd have Rey and Ben struggling to get along living in the same body. LOL. No divorce in that marriage.

After slapping fans in the face with the fact that she wasn't in TLJ, I know JJ and KK tried really hard to placate angry fans by naming the final film, "The Rise of Skywalker," and metaphorically bringing Rey 'into the Skywalker family' at the conclusion of TROS.

But it remains to be seen if the Skywalker Switcharoo from TLJ to TROS will ever resonate with fans. Color me skeptical. Post ST, it's hard to find Rey high on any list of most popular SW characters.

You know, it's funny, isn't it? TROS highlights the different and conflicting storylines the creative teams had, and which is the real reason the ST ended on such a flat note. If they had wanted Rey to be a Skywalker, why not make her one by blood? If they wanted to kill them all off, why bother giving them a heir? If they wanted no more Skywalkers, why give the name to Rey?
    Why, why...why? That's all I can say.
