Here's what he know about the first canon novel set after the movies.
    aftermath_new_6_red_.jpg

The second Death Star has been destroyed. Rumors are flying that the Emperor and his enforcer, Darth Vader, are dead. A new government is forming to replace the Empire. But the galaxy is a big place, and the fallout of this cataclysm will affect different worlds in different ways. Does everyone accept the fall of Imperial rule? Has everyone even heard the life-altering news? What rushes in to fill the vacuum the Empire has left? And who will try to stop them?

Do you think they'll work in any EU favorites? I would really be suprised if they don't have a spot for Thrawn and Mara Jade. They are such loved and layered characters.

This book sounds interesting and I may read it. Making it the first EU novel I'll have picked since...erm, Han Solo at Stars End, I think. >_<

My one concern is that it might be so entrenched in politics and debate that it comes off like the lesser appealing aspects of the PT. Hopefully there'll be a gripping story though.

My guess at the films fan favourite: C3PO. Anyone else speculating over this....

I preordered the book today and it def sounds interesting! My obsession with Sith lore keeps me wondering about how the Sith will make a comeback. I know this book will feed us answers.

I'm thinking that the fan favorite mentioned might be Wedge Antilles. I think this book will definitely give some clues as far as things to come in TFA. However, I think most light on easter eggs in the book will come after the context of the new film. In that light, Wedge would be a good choice. Dennis Lawson has no interest in doing any more SW films as far as I know. They could bring back a fan favorite in an important role of this bridge the gap book (trilogy even) and still keep the mystery hype going on what the OT big 3 have been up to in-universe.

I'm almost as excited for these books as for the movies. So many possibilities.

Well Dave Filoni has hinted at multiple Inquisitors. I doubt they all get killed, if it's really a group. Perhaps they try to band together ... but there is too much infighting (in Aftermath) and the Imperials no longer want Sith in power. Then someone powerful enough to lead this group comes along (in TFA or 2nd part of the trilogy). Perhaps "Uber" then kills most of them, deeming them not worthy as Sith ... or they form the basis for the Chrome Troopers. Kylo Ren is kind of their general as he shows the most potential. Though, he is an underling to Uber ... he shows great power and promise. During the film we see him talking to Vader's helmet, dreaming of the day he will rightfully be dubbed THE Dark Lord of the Sith.

Just wild speculation, certainly not gonna happen ... but I think it would be fun.

Call me lazy but i really don’t want to read 20 books, and comic books to figure out the history. just give me the abridged version and ill be happy. :D or even better... im sure once the book comes out the boards will be posting content and speculations, i look forward to it.

The novels directly telling the story leading up to TFA are apparently a trilogy.

Yeah the story about the characters introduced that might not appear in TFA might be kind of a "run of the mill" plot. The main info we will get out of it is how the galaxy changes from ROTJ to TFA. I will read it for that and I can see little fine details popping up in TFA and unless you read the books you wont recognize them. Not saying they will be anything super Important but it would be cool to see a ship or a weapon or some other object they described in the book and you knew about it prior to seeing TFA.

No I know. I get what you are saying. It's a quick turnaround for a trilogy of books and they are technically young adult novels so they are probably a little watered down. I do think there will be some nice info in them sort of like the crossguard reference in Heir to The Jedi.

What's cool about this book, I think, is that it will give us a small peak of canon events after ROTJ ... while still leaving mystery as to the state of the galaxy come TFA. The story takes place immediately after ROTJ it seems, so there will be repercussions from the Battle of Endor. However, because of the proximity to Ep. 6 ... sweeping changes will have yet to been made. I'm sure we will be pointed in the right direction with clues ... but still have intrigue on the galactic state of affairs come Epl 7. The other 2 books will come out post TFA, so less chance to give away the surprise of a story happening 30 years later (in universe of course).

Isn't just Aftermath coming out from the new book trilogy, before TFA is in theaters? I know from some interview I looked up once that the guy who wrote the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon series), Christopher Paolini, that he wrote the books slowly for the most part, but when the best writing came, as well as the meatiest, he would go through a final script within a month or so.
