Today, StarWars.com announced a new comic series from Marvel Comics titled Star Wars: Halcyon Legacy. It will be a 5-issue run that will come out in 2022, written by Ethan Sacks (Star Wars: Bounty Hunters) and with art by Will Sliney (Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren). The two of them already worked together on the Galaxy's Edge comic series. Halcyon Legacy will tie into the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience that will open next March in the Walt Disney World Resort.

    Sack said in a statement:

According to the story on StarWars.com, the comic series will explore the ship at different points in the Star Wars timeline, from the High Republic era to the First Order days. In fact, the first issue of the series has a cover highlighting Burryaga (drawn by E. M. Gist), the Wookie Jedi from the High Republic era. See the full cover below.

Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski added the following:

Here's the official synopsis for the miniseries:

Here's the cover for issue #1:

This drives me a bit nuts. Not gonna lie.

I'm generally a positive Star Wars fan, but this just rubs me the wrong way.

The Galactic Starcruiser experience is prohibitively expensive for the vast majority of fans. If it was just a luxury experience, then fine, no big deal.

But instead, they've chosen to make it a canon experience.

One of the beautiful things about Star Wars is that anyone can escape to that galaxy far, far away for the price of a movie ticket, or a novel, or a comic.

But now, there are some parts of canon that many fans simply can't afford to experience. And they're piling onto that with publishing tie-ins.

Again, I'm not miffed about the idea or luxury experiences. To each his own.

But turning Star Wars canon itself into a tiered experience that only the wealthiest fans can fully consume? That just feels . . . wrong.

I thought this was going to be about Corran Horn and his grandfather Nejaa Halcyon. Total bummer.
