With all the Battlefront II news that we got over the weekend, I figured it would be a good idea to create a central thread where we can discuss all things relating to the game, especially as new details trickle out over the coming months.

They definitely dropped a ton of info for us to chew on in the meantime.

First off, here's a link to an excellent article on The Star Wars Game Outpost website that summarizes a lot of the details quite nicely.

    http://www.swgameoutpost.com/2017/04/15/biggest-news-battlefront-ii/

One thing I think it's safe to say at this point is that they seem to actually be listening to the fans with this one. A single player campaign, Prequel era content, more robust space battles, classes, no season pass, these are all things that fans have been requesting and EA seems to be listening. I'm certainly not prepared to pre-order the game at this point, but I am genuinely excited.

What about you guys? What excites you about this one, or, what worries you? Let's discuss it!

Obviously, I'm happy to see many of the changes they've announced. However, there is one thing I'm somewhat cautious about.

While I'm happy to see the depth issue addressed, I sincerely hope that they don't go the same route they took with Battlefield 4, where the number of total unlockables was not only excessive, but much of it was either redundant or unnecessary. I want everything that's added to have a purpose, instead of being put in for the sake of padding out the grind.

I'm disappointed to see that not more people have replied to this thread, haha. However, I am ecstatic about the new game! EA has finally listened to their fans.

I have a list of things I would like to see included in the game, bear in mind it is rather long:

    Heroes/Villains:
Obi Wan Kenobi (all prequel era appearances + ANH)

    TIE Interceptor
    TIE Bomber
    Y-Wing
    ARC 170's

Republic Fighter Tanks (from the good ol' BF1 & 2)
    Naboo Starfighters
    B-Wing
    ETA-2 Actis-class Interceptor
    Delta 7 Aethersprite-class Interceptor
    Imperial Shuttle
    AT-TE's

    Felucia
    Mandalore
    Mon Calamari
    Ryloth
    Utapau
    Umbara
    Korriban
    Dathomir

    Other:
    Death Troopers
    Droideka's
    MagnaGuards
    Clone Phases I & II
    Various Clone Commanders
Being able to launch from hanger bays in space battles
Lift off after jumping into a starfighter, rather than it being a power-up

I think that's it for now. I'll add more later if I think of anything

That is a good point, we don't need useless items added in just for the sake of grinding. Additionally, let's hope the level of grinding required is reasonable.

Whoa, that's quite the wishlist. I hadn't even thought about the chance of having Wedge Antilles as a hero(although he was one of Red 5's escorts in the Death Star DLC).

A few of those heroes are already sorta confirmed. In a piece of concept art for Kamino we see Obi-Wan's star fighter being chased by Jango's Slave One. If their ships are likely appearing in the game, then it makes sense that they would as well. As for Obi-Wan having multiple appearances, that seems pretty doable, although some of those skin options may be locked behind micro transactions.

As for the ships, we also got to see the Clone Gunship(LAAT) in concept art, so hopefully that bodes well for it. The Y-Wing is in the trailer and all signs point to it being playable, which if that is the case, I think that makes the TIE Bomber a likely option as well. As of right now they said that we will be spawning inside of ships rather than taking off in them, which is admittedly a bit of a bummer.

As for droid army stuff, I don't know how they could avoid including the Destroyer Droids as they are some of the most iconic droids from the PT.

Speaking micro transactions again, I think their inclusion in this game is certain at this point, especially with the announcement that the game most likely won't have a season pass(Hallelujah!). I think one way we will see them is in relation to cosmetic items like skins. One thing that makes me think this is the fact that some of the preorder bonus include TLJ skins for Rey and Kylo. If they will have alternate skin options, it seems likely that other heroes will as well. I'm sure there will be other micro transactions as well.

What do you guys think, since the likelihood of micro transactions is very high, how would you like to see them handled? Are there other multiplayer games that you think handle micro transactions well that they should base their model upon?

Micro-transactions are a slippery slope, and, in truth, I can't think of very many games that handled it particularly well.

For me, at least, I think DICE's Battlefield Bad Company 2 handled it rather well. Rather than using the now infamous loot-crate system that's been plaguing games over the last generation, you could buy cosmetic "Spect-Act" bundles. The bundles contained a player model and weapon skin for the specific class the bundle is for. This meant you could purchase the bundle for the class, and thus obtain the items, you wanted. No lottery system involved.

I've been playing COD for years, and the micro transactions are handled very well in my opinion. I recently purchased Method Man as an announcer($3.99), which for me makes the game a bit more enjoyable while playing (I can turn him off if it gets annoying). The other micro transactions I will not purchase because I can get those items from just playing the game. It seems, to me, that impatient people buy these items because they want them right away. No one is twisting your arm to buy them so its entirely up to you, in my opinion. I think most people who purchase certain items like guns, think it will make them a better player mostly because, they're frustrated being killed over and over again... heheh so I hope we get micro transactions rather then DLC maps.

If there are micro transactions that ripoff players I'd like to know. I haven't experienced that, and I've been playing for years. Anywho, I pre-ordered BF2 simply because I've enjoyed Star Wars Battlefront tremendously. I have reach 100 max level and I have all the Hutt contracts. Despite what all the critics have said about the game I enjoyed it very much. Since EA and Dice listened to the players concerns I think they should be rewarded for their effort, so that is also why I pre-ordered. No matter what they(EA-DICE) do some people will never be pleased, and some people ask for way too much( Kylo Solo heheh I want all those things too btw). I don't listen to the critics entirely, if I don't like a game I simply return it or trade it in at my local GameStop. I do my research, so all the games I purchase I know I will enjoy.

Sorry to ask such a stupid question, what do you mean by micro transactions?

It would be awesome if these guys made a reappearance!

And by Republic Fighter Tank, I mean this
    [IMG]

I did just read that we are going to be getting a new lego version of this slate to be released next June so maybe we will be seeing it in game :D

It would also be epic if we could pilot the AT-TE like in the original Battlefronts

And maybe see these guys again?

Big Question for me, as to how excited I'll be about this game-

Any idea if we'll have Instant Action for these maps in single player, in addition to campaigns?

There are offline modes, but they've not yet gone into specifics. Though a few people on Youtube (which are far from official sources and should only be taken with a grain of salt) have made mention of a revamped skirmish mode of some kind.

How about a third party being on the battlefield? What I'm trying to say like, what if there were Wampa's on Hoth as well as Tauntauns, Jawas on Tatooine & Gamorreans in Jabba's Palace, Ewoks on Endor, Gungans on Naboo, etc like in the original Battlefronts? I know they kinda tried to do that by including Tauntauns very far off in the distance on Hoth, Jawas on Tatooine but they would always scurry back into their "homes" when we got near them, same goes for the Ewoks on Endor. In the original BF2, there would be like Wampa's on Hoth & Gamorreans in Jabba's Palace that would come out and attack you. It would add a fun aspect to the game!
A hunt mode would also be pretty epic!

    EDIT:
I updated my first post in this thread with some new heroes

I do agree, lottery stuff can be frustrating, that's why it's generally best not play at all in cases like that. Then again, more often than not, when they do have random loot boxes, we are able to unlock that stuff through normal gameplay as well.

Yeah, it is usually the impatient folks who get ensnared by the lure of quick advancement and poor. Let their impatience find further game development.

Micro transactions are smaller DLC purchases available in games, things like EXP boosters, weapon skins and stuff like that. The general reasoning behind them is that people are more likely to spend more money over time on small purchases here and there rather than on larger more expensive DLC purchases and season passes.

I would love to see stuff like that, it would make the experience that much more authentic and help keep the matches interesting. I also loved the Hunt Mode from the original Battlefront II, so I would love to see it make a comeback.

We don't have full details yet, but I think that it is very likely that the game will have a full featured skirmish mode this time around. The lack of offline content in the last one was one of its biggest and most consistent criticisms from fans. Just take a look at its 5.0 user score on Metacritic. There is no way that they won't have a much better offline experience this time around, especially with three separate studios working on the game. They've already said quite a bit indicating that it will have plenty of offline support, including mentioning a progression system for players that just want to play the game offline. It doesn't hurt to remain cautious of course, but all signs point to an excellent offline single player and co-op experience.

I'd be well up for causing a Jawa-cide

Joking aside, I'm RIDICULOUSLY excited for this game. What's better is that the campaign mode will be considered canon.

I think if EA/DICE produce this game right we could have a huge success on our hand.

My favorite mode in Star Wars Battlefront is heroes vs. villains. I use Luke, Leia, Jyn, Darth Sidious, and Boba Fett. I can't wait to play as OB1( I hope), Yoda, Maul, and Kylo Ren in BF2! I can't wait till E3 to see actual game play.

Taking some inspiration from stuff like the Fantasy Flight tabletop games and Empire at War, it might also be cool for a swappable 3rd faction- Scum. Would be nice to see the Empire or the Rebellion face off against the Hutts every now and then, as long as Empire v Rebels gets preferential treatment on the servers.

More heroes is definitely a good thing. I suspect that we will probably see quite a few added over the lifetime of the game, very likely through DLC.

Here's a question though, what heroes do you guys realistically think that we will see at launch? The designers have said that there is a bit of a rock paper scissors element to how the heroes play off of each other this time around, so it stands to reason that each faction will need at least three heroes to start with. Conservatively, I would say that that means the game will need at least 18 heroes at launch. More optimistically, I could see getting 22 to 24 at launch.

    Conservative estimate

    PT

Heroes: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda(Padme is a good choice for a blaster wielding hero, but I don't see her ousting Obi-Wan or Anakin if they are limited to three heroes at launch)

Villains: Darth Maul, Jango Fett, Count Dooku(Dooku edges Grievous if there are only three per faction at launch as he would no doubt be easier to create)

    OT

    Heroes: Luke, Leia, Han

    Villains: Vader, Palpatine, Boba Fett

    ST

    Heroes: Rey, Finn, Poe

    Villains: Kylo, Phasma, Hux

    My slightly more optimistic list

    PT

    Heroes: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Padme

Villains: Darth Maul, Jango Fett, Count Dooku, General Grievous

    OT

    Heroes: Luke, Leia, Han, Lando

Villains: Vader, Palpatine, Boba Fett, Tarkin

    ST

Same for both factions honestly, as they don't have much to work with at the moment, although I suppose it is possible that they will add a hero and villain from The Last Jedi in order to help build hype. Maybe Kelly Marie Tran's character for the Resistance and Benicio del Toro's character for the First Order.

Those are my thoughts. How many heroes do you guys think we'll see at launch, and who do you think they'll choose for the initial lineup?

Heroes numbers were pretty criticized in the first game, so I expect we'll see more per faction, even across the three eras. I'm kind of expecting 5 heroes per faction at launch.

From what I've heard, maps won't be paid DLC (just a rumor as far as I know.
If that's true, I'd imagine there'll be plenty of DLC heroes- which, honestly, doesn't bother me.

I'd like more heroes as well, the main reason my estimate is more conservative is because I also think EA intends to sell heroes as DLC and they want to make as much money off of selling them as they can. I have no doubt this game will be better, but EA will always be EA, they're gonna get their money one way or the other ;). I'm also fine with that so long as they don't spilt the player base with a season pass again.

My good friend who is a much bigger gamer then me, said EA is the McDonalds of the Gaming world. He doesn't like their games because they're mediocre and always fall short; they create games solely for massive profit. Well, I couldn't disagree with him, although; I enjoyed Star Wars Battlefront, with all the bad press, he was actually right, but I hope they make up for it with BF2.

I also would be surprised that, assuming heroes are DLC, we'd be charged for any heroes already in the first game (even DLC ones). It'd be kinda lame to have to rebuy stuff. So, assuming that's the case, that's looking at 7 heroes per faction, at least for the GCW. I don't know if Prequel and Sequel eras will have equal numbers of heroes, but I think prequels at least will have plenty of room for 7 heroes per faction with plenty left for DLC. Sequel stuff... not so much as of now, but I think that could change in the future.
I think it'd be a lot easier to get 7 heroes in sequel stuff than 7 villains, at least.
