Indeed, I've sunk hours into skirmish. There's lots to prefer over multiplayer aesthetically-speaking - the little animations of enemies stumbling to the ground when shot but not killed, the fact that they move like real human beings on the battlefield (like in the movies) instead of bunny hopping around like idiots, the way the AI teams yell actual battle-related exclamations as things happen around them instead of dancing 'the robot' etc. I play Battlefront to enjoy the most cinematic Star Wars gaming experience ever made, I play it first-person cos I want to feel like I'm there. I don't *want* to take advantage of a movable third-person camera like the 'pros' do to see round corners, that's not a Star Wars 'experience' that's just making cheap use of a video game's camera settings to rack up a kill count.

I don't want to "get good" on multiplayer, I just want a great Star Wars gaming atmosphere which I can enjoy and indulge in at my own rate.

I have a custom USB Star Wars battle compilation soundtrack I play instead of its own music, full of tracks from Rogue One (released and unreleased) and obviously most of the other movies (but R1 lends itself so incredibly well to it), got it timed perfectly so that from the beginning of the Twilight on Hoth level through to the second vulnerable walker attack, it'll finally segue from 'Scrambling the Rebel Fleet' into 'March of the Resistance' just as the Y Wings launch and I call in for Green Squadron fighter support and jump into the cockpit of an A-Wing. Seeing the snow thundering past the windshield (again, first person) as the resistance theme blasts out the speakers as I fire my proton torpedoes at the walkers below at full speed is utterly thrilling stuff I can enjoy and again and again. Never ceases to make me smile. Until they blow up and then remember there's nothing else to do really, except switch it off or do it again. But that kind of personal cinematic experience can NOT be replicated in hectic multiplayer, it's just too unpredictable.

It's just an absolutely joke there's no DLC levels, that I can't choose my character (I know I play first person, but if I can choose it in MP then why not SP?) and the AI is so utterly awful - allies gather in bunches and don't move (Outpost Beta is the worst for it - rebels in the corridor), the enemies are cheap and often only target you. Fix those issues and I'd love the game, as it stands it's just got some great *bits*. There's an amazing game there if it had just had a bit more effort put in. And that's what I expected BF2 to be.

    I was wrong.

BATTLEFRONT 2 YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE. YOU WERE MEANT TO REPLACE BATTLEFRONT 1'S SINGLE PLAYER FEATURES, NOT HAVE LESS OF THEM!!!!

Yeah, I'm with you. I forget what I was watching, but I saw a review recently that highlighted one of my big issues with the game. Basically, it showed them constantly becoming a hero, then immediately becoming the center of attraction and getting killed.

I get that in a competitive environment that's to be expected. But I want to become Kylo Ren sometimes and knock down wave after wave of Rebel troops. I want to be Finn and take the stormtroopers head on at Crait, or become a V-Wing and bomb the droids on Kashyyyk. The points system rewards already good players (or players who have heavily invested in the already rich get richer system). I basically want to get offline from their terrible way of doing things, and have Star Wars battles my way.

Speaking of which, look at the back of Battlefront II's (2005) case.

    "Any way you want."

Now we play any way the server wants. That seems like a downgrade to me.

Haha you're just making me more annoyed now.

TBH I personally don't ever play as a hero, I enjoy being a grunt through their eyes (again, literally, in first-person), hated that BF2 forced me to be them on the campaign, but that's just my opinion and I totally agree with you.

And why aren't any of the additional imperial units from Survival in BF2015's skirmish mode? I'm seriously sick of just killing stormtroopers with the occasional scout or shock trooper walking in. What about the shadow troopers or the jump troopers? Or just a few in imperial officer uniforms - they're already programmed into the game, so why not in Skirmish? And what I wouldn't give to kill some Death Troopers and hear their distorted screams as the fall face down into Sullust's mud. Again... they're programmed into it, their models exist! Why are they relegated to online multiplayer when someone chooses Krennic? I can't see how the makers would even be happy to know their hard work would disappear when servers stop being played on, it's totally baffling. It's like they don't want people to ever remember what they made?

As for BF2's equivalent, "Arcade", I'm not even going to begin. Absolutely pathetic. BF1 was insulting with how little they gave us from the multiplayer to enjoy solo, BF2 is just a deliberate hate-crime.

I love this game, but I am a bit disappointed with some aspects of it, one of which is that this game is supposed to have more of a variety and it really doesn't. The original Battlefront II was so great, and this should have been a more modernized continuation of that with the inclusion of new characters. Yes, they've given us some, but I still feel like the game is lacking.

For starters, I really think there needs to be more planets. Scarif was probably my favorite map (or one of) in the last EA Battlefront, and I'm going to be really disappointed if they don't add it to this one at some point. (Although again, it seems like a waste of DLC considering we already got it with the last game. It should've just been included, along with Jyn, Cassian, and Krennic.) Bespin is my second favorite map and I'm disappointed they didn't include that this time around either, and the Tantive IV was the best map in the original game (in my opinion) and needs to be included as well. I also feel like they could've included other maps like Mustafar, Geonosis, Coruscant, Utapau, and Dagobah. There's some major planets there lacking, mostly from the prequels.

That leads me to my next point. Why are they so insistent on not including anyone from the prequels aside from Darth Maul and Yoda? I think it's absolutely ridiculous that they don't have Obi-Wan as a playable character yet, even if he and Grievous are rumored to be one of the upcoming DLC additions. I don't think it would be asking a lot for them to include Qui-Gon, Padmé, Anakin (even if it's just a Darth Vader skin for prequel maps), Mace Windu, Jango Fett, or Count Dooku. (I'd really love if they added Poe to the game, too. They could add Hux as his First Order counterpart.) I don't know, I just feel like they need to include more of the important characters from all of the films. Even if the prequels aren't everybody's favorite, there are still things to love about them and they did enhance the original Battlefront II.

My final complaint (for now) is that there are very few skins for the characters. The fact that they put Leia in an outfit she doesn't wear in any of the films was a bit ridiculous. They could've put her in her Endor outfit (without the poncho or helmet), but I also think they should've included her white dress and the Hoth outfit. (I'd love a Bespin jumpsuit and her dress from The Last Jedi, too, but we've gotta take baby steps.) Luke needs some more skins, too (A New Hope, Bespin and/or Hoth, The Last Jedi).

I don't know. I just feel like, for as big as it is, there needs to be more. I shouldn't feel limited when playing this game, nor should I feel like a game that's 13 years old now does a better job in everything except graphics. Battlefront II is an improvement from the previous EA Battlefront, but I just wish they'd included a lot more in terms of planets and characters if nothing else.

I have been going back and playing some Starfighter Assault, as a longtime fan of Star Wars flight simulators I have enjoyed that game mode on the new Battlefront games. The last game got old fast though since it was so simplistic and always in-atmosphere. It's nice to have actual space battles and meaningful objectives. Although the controls leave a little to be desired. Just out of curiosity though, is there some sort of handicapping system in that game mode? It seems like sometimes one team will get an advantage in numbers, like they'll start out with 100 fighters and the next round on the same map my team starts with 120, or vice versa.

I guess the whole polarising opinion on Battlefront 2 comes down to what you want and need from a game. There's plenty of you here that are clearly way more hardcore gamers than me (I'd be one of those people you is doing a Solo-esque 'Ya-hooo' and bouncing on the sofa grinning when I finish mid-table in a multiplayer battle) and need more content and variety.

I'd agree that BF2 feels like it offers less options than it's predecessor and lacks the Bespin and Scarif maps which were probably the most fun last time round, but if I want to play Walker Assault or one of those maps I just go back and play the other game. I'm no fan of the micro-transactions - but similar to GTA V, I just ignore the pay-to-play bonuses and if others are better at it than me, then so be it.

I finally got to playing (and completing) the campaign this past weekend. Again, I know opinions differ, but I enjoyed it (other than the mission where Iden is pursuing Hask in his TIE... flipping infuriating, but probably just down to me not being good enough!) and hope that it continues to be expanded in the forthcoming DLC releases.

Dice's BF2 is interesting... though I like Pandemic's BF2 better. Had more playable content, galactic maps and most importantly... no loot boxes. The Infernal Squad SP started well... then fell down the hole after switching to the Rebellion. Should have played the Empire side longer !!!!

Another update and still no new offline arcade/skirmish content.

It's all I browse my eyes along with each update. When there is some, I'll give it a play again.

The lightsaber improvement is great. They used to look like Force FX blades. Also, the annoying lens flare effect is gone.

Pretty big EA sale going on right now, I picked up a copy of the game for just a little over twenty bucks on PS4.

Still wish it had more singleplayer content, but I figured this is probably as cheap as the game is gonna be for a while.

Yep I know, I'm not much a patient one in waiting for the price to go down. I throw credits in at the first price just to get playing it after such a long wait.
