Wow, I'm kinda amazed it's taking this long for season 2 to come out.

 

Season 2 would have been out long ago but the progression revamp changed all the plans. It probably makes more sense to tie it to Solo at this point. A bummer, but well, I guess it's for the greater good.

 

Ugh, out of all the things they could have done, they chose the teddy bears? There's not even references to Solo at all. EA logic: "Okay what do we do for Season 2? Let's do the one thing about OT that people generally agree that the they hate and make a game mode out of it! Yeah that sounds like fun!" Compared to Season 1 this sounds like a disappointment.

 

At first the Ewok mode seemed totally like an April fools joke, but when I thought about it, the premise is actually kind of brilliant. Survival horror with Ewoks? Sounds fun.

Let's not forget this is not Season 2, but a smaller type of update. I expected nothing beyond appearances in this one, but I'll gladly take the new mode.

So they said that seasons will coincide with events like anniversaries or movie releases. That pretty much confirms a Solo season, but RotS has its anniversary in May too. Personally I think it's unlikely, but who knows, maybe it's gonna be an extra-sized season with Solo and Clone Wars content. Somebody pointed out that it's the 10th anniversary of TCW series this year (October?) so that could be a Season 3 hint. I would expect Rogue One content around the film's 2nd anniversary in December.

PS. It cracks me up how menacing Ewoks look in the promo materials.

 

I’m super excited we’re finally getting some new appearances for the heroes, but some of these are just ridiculous.

It seems ridiculous to create a Chewbacca skin where he’s injured, or a Kylo Ren skin where the sole difference is that he has tape on his face (which you can’t even see if you’re playing as him) to cover his scars (this should’ve been an unmasked Kylo Ren without a cape, in my opinion). Hooded Yoda also seems a bit ridiculous when most people would probably much rather have a new skin for Luke (especially because Han and Leia are both getting new skins).

That being said, I’m still excited for all of these and hope they add even more new skins for the heroes in the future. (Also, I really hope they get rid of that ugly helmet in Leia’s Endor skin.)

As for Season 2 content, it would be great if we got twice the new content. They can give us a new Solo map with new skins for Han and Lando, and then also give us Obi-Wan/Grievous and presumably Utapau (although I’d love a Mustafar map, too). Season 2 is long overdue, so it would be great if they did that, but I’m sure they won’t. (Also, I really don’t care if we get stuff from The Clone Wars or not. At this point, that’s only going to take away from some of the necessities this game still lacks from the films, like most of the major prequel characters and maps. Not to mention, that will then raise the question of why there isn’t stuff from Rebels.)

 

Agreed I'm glad they're back. Still enjoy slicing them up in TFU 2 Darkside edition.

 

So the update dropped. I really like the idea behind the Ewok Hunt mode, but it's pretty difficult for me. I can get hardy any kills. Maybe it needs some practice. Ewoks are fun to play.

The appearances are a bit underwhelming, there's not so many of them. They're also unbalanced. For example, there are 3 skins for assault and like 7 for officers. I guess DICE will keep adding more. They better do.

Btw. I started using the GeForce Ansel screenshot tool and it's amazing. It freezes the game and lets you set the camera any way you want. You can also add some basic affects and adjustments. It works only in the single player modes.

Does anyone else think these new skins are INSANELY expensive? I unlocked Kylo’s new one right off the bat and then played enough to get Rey’s new skin (I was pretty close to being able to unlock it). Considering how weak some of the skin options are, I really feel like they need to lower the cost of a few of them.

Not to mention, they need to add more. The fact that we got a skin of Chewbacca where the difference is literally a bandage on his arm that you can barely see is ridiculous. They could’ve given us Bespin/Ahch-To Luke, Bespin/A New Hope Leia, Revenge of the Sith Darth Sidious, even First Order disguise Finn.... But they gave us that weak new Chewbacca skin? (To be honest, I think the Yoda skin is a bit ridiculous as well, but that’s just me.)

I’m thrilled that we’re getting new skins (and that they at least had the common sense to make Chewie’s the cheapest), but I feel like a few of these were unnecessary, especially given their ridiculous prices.

That being said, I LOVE the new skins for Kylo, Rey and Lando. They were really overdue and look fantastic. Han and Leia’s Endor ones are pretty good, too. (Even though they gave Leia that godawful helmet again.)

 

Yeah, 40k is a fortune... However, I'm leaning towards the prices being acceptable, even though it'll take me forever to save up. That's because I don't want skins to be easy to obtain. They should add more challenges to allow us to earn credits, though. Right now it's all about Ewok Hunt and I suck at Ewok Hunt. There should always be some challenges for regular modes too.

On a different note, it's kind of stupid that you have to buy the same skin twice (e.g. Twi'lek) if you want to use it in a different faction. I don't know what to think about the class lock either.

As far as the hero skins go, Ahch-To Rey is the only one where they've shown some effort. On the other hand, it's been in the game files forever, so it's not a genuine new addition... I love the new Kylo, but they just took the cape off the model that was in the game since day one. So since I have the one with the cape, I felt like an idiot paying 40k for simply removing the cape. It's warranted for those who didn't pre-order and don't have the caped skin, but well, I have it... Discount maybe?

The majority of other skins were lifted from the first Battlefront... Including the Hoth ones. Goddammit, if the next "big addition" to the buyable skins is going to be the Hoth set, I'm going to get frustrated. Helmetless Iden and injured Chewie - no comment. Endor Han is kind of new and cool, I'll give them that, but it looks weirdly bulky - you can see they just added the coat on top of a regular outfit rather than model it properly... But overall this better be just a teaser (it really feels low-effort) and I hope new ones will come very soon. And I mean new ones - not Hoth skins or Endor Han without the coat...

I got pretty excited when I saw the "hooded Yoda" announcement, because that's a skin I came up with and thought it's pretty unlikely. But the one we got looks quite lame... I had something better in my mind:




Here are some skins that I think would be great:
- Bespin Luke
- Throne Room Luke
- yellow jacket Luke
- hooded RotJ Luke
- any of TLJ Lukes (a man can dream...)
- TFA Han
- TFA Unmasked Kylo (masked Kylo without the hood can be added too, why not)
- RotS Sidious
- Rogue One Vader (OK, so this is definitely my favourite looking Vader, but I'm wondering if they're pretending that in the canon Vader looks the same all the time and the subtle differences are just a movie thing)
- TCW and Rebels Maul
- Ahch-To Rey from her little duel with Luke
- proper hooded Yoda...
- literally all 100 OT Leia outfits
- why not go a little crazy and add prototype Boba and the Holiday Special Boba
- TFA Finn, Stormtrooper Finn
- a new Bossk outfit made for the game

I mean come on... I don't get it. It can't be that difficult to add all of this.

Han (regular, Corellia, Mimban), Lando (cape, no cape) and Chewie (regular, goggled, "naked") from Solo are a given for the next season in at least one of the mentioned variants. But why not add all of them.

 

I agree with you. I think it’s a good challenge, I’m not going to lie, and I like that I have something to work toward. My problem is the fact that they put zero effort into some of the skins, like you said, and that the prices for them are uneven. (Rey is the only one that I can really justify spending 40,000 credits on because she’s completely new and was done really well.)

I haven’t paid much attention to the class skins yet. “Heroes vs. Villains” is my most played game mode, so I figured I would start with the hero skins and then work my way over to the class skins. I don’t understand why you can’t unlock them and have them work for all the factions, though. That’s kind of stupid, if you ask me. I don’t know what the logic is there.

I really think EA should send out a survey asking users what they would like to see in Battlefront II because some of the decisions they’ve made make little sense. Obviously, the loot box scandal was kind of universally criticized and they really didn’t have a choice there. But I think it would be in their best interest to ask players what they want to see in the game in terms of skins, new characters, locations, etc.

Most of the skins we got aren’t even new, even if some of them were necessary. But as great as it is to have a lot of these skins, they’re ones we should’ve had from the beginning, considering most of them were either in the first game or are simple alterations to standard skins in this game.

I like most of your ideas, too! I agree with you that I had a completely different idea of how hooded Yoda would turn out, and I really hope they improve the look of it because I expected something more in the vein of Star Wars: Clone Wars Yoda. Leia has a million outfits and they need to include them—her A New Hope dress, Bespin jumpsuit and Battle of Endor outfit should all be given. (And if they do eventually do older versions of Han and Luke, I’m okay with them adding an older Leia skin just for the sake of consistency.) Luke needs his Bespin outfit, Ahch-To and/or Crait outfit, pilot outfit, and I’m okay with his Yavin outfit being added, too. (Also, I love that you mention Ahch-To Rey from her duel with Luke because I’d KILL for that skin, too!)

I don’t think it’s that difficult to give us some more skins like that, but who knows? They haven’t done it yet, so it’s either more work than we realize or they just don’t care. (Given some of their other stupid decisions, I’m guessing it’s the latter.)

 

Actually I would give them credit for keeping an eye on the community. Some of the devs are pretty responsive. I think they keep monitoring the Battlefront Reddit and there's a skin wishlist they allegedly consider.

I'm wondering if an equal amount of skins for classes and heroes is something they care about. I mean, is having 10 Leia skins and just 1 Bossk skin something they want to avoid, because it sucks to main a character that has no customisation. As of now, it doesn't seem like they care, because there are 3 assault skins and much more officer skins, for example Additionally, by default, you can't come up with many stormtrooper variations, so I think balance is impossible to keep anyway. Unless they screw authenticity and allow for shoretroopers on Hoth.

See, I’m pretty oblivious because I don’t check Reddit! That’s good that they’re pretty responsive, though. Hopefully that means they’ll make some progress on some of this stuff.

I thought the same thing about character skins, but the fact of the matter is that major characters like Han and Leia are inevitably going to have more skins than a character like Bossk. (To be honest, I’m a little surprised they picked Bossk as a villain in this game over Greedo, but that’s a separate conversation.) I feel like they’re not concerned about it because it’s really impossible to give every character an equal amount of skins. The same can be said for classes like the stormtroopers because it’s stupid to have a shoretrooper on Hoth or a snowtrooper on Tatooine.

That being said, I do think they need to make at least one additional skin for every character when possible. The problem is that it becomes difficult with characters like Bossk, Boba Fett, Darth Vader, etc. Really, the only option with a lot of them is younger versions of themselves, which would require them to include additional characters from The Clone Wars.

We’ll see how it goes, though. My understanding is that this is only the first skin update and there will be more class/hero/villain skins to come.
