As an avid COD player I don't purchase every supply drop that is released, yet I still enjoy the game. I'll do the same with BF2. I'll purchase the loot crates that I need to enjoy the game. The ones that matter to me...

From what I understand, you won't be able to purchase loot crates with specific cards/weapons, nor do they necessarily give you a higher chance of getting a particular card when compared to a loot crate purchased with in-game credits.

I'm sure that we'll eventually see it go the BF2015 route and have packs of certain cards and blasters available, but for the foreseeable future this certainly isn't the case (as I understand it).

OK, I didn't have time to delve into it, but I played a little bit and I have to say I'm very disappointed with how my PC is running the game... :( FPS is pretty low and at the same time the graphics on my settings look worse than the original Battlefront (or at least that's my impression)... My PC fits the minimum requirements (I think it even has a slightly better graphics card) so I know I have to play on lower settings, but I expected it at least to run as smoothly as the first game. I really hope the optimisation will be better at release.

Unfortunately he's not, but it's possible they'll add him in future.

UPDATE: To those having the same problem - try decreasing the "Resolution Scale" value in display options. I changed mine from 100 to 80 and now it's totally smooth. It keeps everything the same (shadows, textures, lighting) but the picture becomes a bit grainy and blurred as if you lowered the resolution (not nearly as drastic as actual resolution change, though). It really improved the performance... For me smoothness is priority, so it felt like night and day.

Here's a screenshot I made on my current settings:

I hope to share more impressions later today once I check all the modes!

I can't wait to get off work so I can try this game out. Has anyone been playing it on PS4 by any chance? If so, do you care to comment on how the game runs?

Had a play on it last night, it was good, though obviously too small a section of the game to really say how much of an improvement it is all-round at this point, especially since I've got to get used to the new elements, many of which aren't accessible anyway. Plus for me the major draw will be the single player campaign, whilst only a really simplistic pair of offline challenges on Theed are available with the beta. It runs well, didn't notice any slowdown on PS4, but did notice on the Takadona 'strike' section that the the textures take a good solid second to appear after spawning in each time, which I don't recall noticing on the original; probably to do with the fact that you return to a menu each time you die rather than the camera remaining on other players in the battlefield.

I also need to get used to cooling my weapon manually every time, doesn't seem to have an auto-cool (am I being stupid here?) - a couple of times I found myself sneaking up behind a group of enemies, ready to take them all down only to unleash nothing but a disheartening 'click'; my weapon was still jammed from the previous firefight ten seconds ago. Cue a barrage of blaster fire to my face once they saw me ineffectually pointing my weapon at them like a child with a stick going 'pew pew pew'.

I also had a lot of fun playing last night! Although it's only in beta, I feel this game is a definite improvement on the first but there is indeed a learning curve, but I think it will be for the best in the long run. I also had some issues about the cooldown at first, as it seems the weapons do not auto-cool. From what I can gather, you can do a manual cooldown (by pressing square on PS4) or, once the weapon is overheating, you can do a manual flush (by pressing R2 on the PS4) when pressing at the right time in the gauge bar. Also, flying is a lot better but it requires some getting used to if you are accustomed to the control schemes of the first game.

My only disappointment with the beta is that you can't play as Kylo Ren, but that'll come soon enough!

Cooldown caught me out a couple of times... finding yourself face-to-face with a target and no weapon when they rushed you was annoying! :D

Yep, no Ren yet - but to be fair they've balanced the Heroes in the Beta quite well with a PT character (Maul), a pair of OTs (Han and Fett) and Rey for the ST is a good move. I've found that there tends to be far more players on the Naboo map than the others too, so there's definitely some PT love out there.

I'm certainly not disputing there's some love there, I especially enjoyed feeling like I was in Republic Commando again, but to be fair, I think it defaults you to the Theed map if you just click the big 'play' option on the main menu (I had to go browsing the menus to realise the Takodana map was even available) plus it's also basically Walker Assault, which was always a popular and enjoyable option on the original game. I wanted to play more of the game as a First Order stormtrooper, since this is the first time I've ever been able to, but the small-scale capture-the-artifact gameplay on a small map just quickly became tiring to me; I much prefer the progressive battle-structure of a walker assault style mode.

Cool down wasn't a problem for me since I played allot of the first game. i notice allot of people playing first person, since I'm a big Uncharted fan love the third person view, and I play COD in first person... any who, different game, this isn't COD, can't run and gun more of a campers game... getting ready for another round. Gotta open those loot crates!
