So, word on the street here is that people are bombarding retailers to say they've pre-ordered the game and not received their Beta code... and retailers aren't checking, they're just sending codes out!
One guy I work with has preordered with a well known rainforest themed seller, got the Beta code and then cancelled his order?!?

I've heard you had to pre-order b4 Oct. 1, in order to get code. But thats a shame...haha good luck! I pre-ordered months ago and fully paid just waiting to pick it up at Game Stop.

Likewise... I was just surprised these retailers are falling for it or (more likely) couldn't give a bantha's bollock :D

Years ago, when the gaming industry was destroying the comic book industry, Marvel was selling all their characters... i refused to play video games as a devout comic book fan, but i returned to gaming when KOTOR was released couldn't resist. I've been a gamer ever since, but especially a SW gamer. Didn't listen to all the backlash associated with Battlefront because they were rushing to release the game in time for TFA, so now they have made up for it, campaign etc... yet people are still complaining... its funny how people are doing all sorts of shenanigans to just play the beta.

Agreed- I'm glad that they're at least opening the beta up to everyone tomorrow, because after the last game, EA really needs to win back the trust of all Battlefront fans, not just those willing to submit a preorder (or those who'll go to the trouble of forging one).

I fully support these shennanigans, even if I won't participate.

Having now had a chance to play the Beta, I like it!

It's definitely not perfect, but it's miles ahead of Battlefront 2015 in my opinion. I prefer the pace of gameplay. Also, the star fighter gameplay is just soooooo much better than what we got in the last Battlefront.

My biggest worry though is that they're gonna screw things up with the loot crate system. Right now your progression for each class is tied exclusively to the star cards found randomly in crates.

I'm going to buck the trend though and give a couple of nitpicks...

The game plays great and I know it's only a tiny portion of it so far, so I can't judge the full game from it (and as stated in my earlier post, I can't wait to play single-player campaign, it's going to be the closest I'll ever get to the cancelled Imperial Commando game that never emerged) but the MTT battle on Theed seems to be an evolution of Walker Assault yet it's missing those big atmospheric and musical swells that the original did brilliantly. When Walker Assault was approaching an Imperial defeat, the game had you knowing it as if you were in the climax of one of the movies; the music, the noise, the energy, the anticipation, it was incredibly cinematic. Here when the MTT explodes, I'm usually in the palace with no prior warning other than an out-of-the-blue 'victory' or 'defeat' exclamation appearing on screen. So far I've never got to feel like the battle ended, I'm just told that it had.

Also I know everyone's praising it as a more fair gameplay technique, but I'm also not the biggest fan of the new method for getting in a vehicle. Not that it was amazing in the first EA Battlefront, it was just a pickup token after-all and that can't compare to how it was on the originals whereby you actually had to get in a real vehicle, but it just has no atmosphere with the new respawn reward method.

As stated, I know it's more fair in that people can't camp the spawn-points for vehicles, but I never played it enough to ever remember where they spawned (usually played single-player on hard), but the way when the battle was escalating you could pick up a vehicle token, your character dropped to his knees to use their wrist-com and called for ground/air support (reminding me of the FO Stormtroopers at Niima Outpost) as the music suddenly swelled as you took over the vehicle in question had some great bombast to it the kept the battle feeling alive. Having to go to a silent menu and choose to just spawn in as one as you're counted back in just loses so much of the cinematic atmosphere and pacing. The same goes for the heroes; I miss the glorious escalations of being in a firefight to suddenly having your game announce "we have just received word that Director Krennic has joined the battle" as you collect the power-up under a volley of explosions. To have these things only on a post-death menu really kills the flow and feeling of empowerment. I know it's for balance, but it's a bit of a mood killer for me.

And I assume that also means that I have no means for leaving the vehicle once in one, I just have to wait until I'm dead - which just takes away from that immersive feeling of being more free on the battlefield. In the first one I feel like a soldier who can become an actual pilot or driver if the situation calls for it, in the new one, I'm just a soulless empty ship and don't feel part of the same organic battle.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great game that I'm really looking forward to, but I just don't want to lose any of the stuff that the first game actually did right. Balance and fairness is one thing, but I truly hope we're not losing any feeling of immersion and cinematic grandeur on the battlefield.

The only thing that is upsetting me greatly at the moment is the fact that HP for the Heavy class is way over the top. It destroys the general gunplay and is just tremendously overpowered. The EE4 and Slugthrower are again overpowered. But for the rest, I am really enjoying myself! Running around on Takodana gave me goosebumbs and getting down those famous stairs in Maz's castle to get to Rey's vision room (still locked!) almost makes me cry. I also very much agree with the above post that some of the 'spawn' mechanics miss an immersive cinematic feel. I can also imagine because of the battlepoint system that many players, especially the struggling ones will never get a ground vehicle or a hero: they will never acquire the required number of points before the match is over and I think that for many people that would be a very sad thing.

Edit: What I also experienced as rather strange was that much of the music wasn't contextualized, especially the John William's tracks. I constantly heared Naboo themes from episode I on Takodana, where I was expecting original tracks inspired by TFA or actual Williams' tracks. At present only the loading screen has an actual Takodana/sequel feel to it.

Last day for the beta, this game is loads of fun and its just a taste! I'm trying to get as much star cards as possible for every load out, and craft my weapons, your beta achievements carries over to the full game ( special Founder's crate:) ). EA/Dice IMHO has made up for the 2015 game. I can't wait for Nov. 14 to play as Yoda and Kylo Ren! I know I'm asking too much but does anyone know about the other heroes we're getting? I'm hoping for Jango Feet for the Kamino map, but I think Boba Felt is too popular they my not add Jango, OB1 and Qui-Gon Jinn would be great for Theed or Old Ben Kenobi for the Mos Eisely map would be great.

Unfortunately this looks like another Star Wars game i'm going to have to not buy, i'm not going to support pay to win micro transactions and it's shame that EA got the licence to make Star Wars games while being one of the most anti-consumer AAA game companies around right now.

Beta extended for 2 more days!!! Until Oct. 11! KOTOR brought me back to gaming glad I'm not an anti-consumer/gamer anymore...haha I had COD Infinite Warfare and I bought 2 micro transaction through out the year, and I had loads of fun playing COD, no one is twisting your arms to buy micro transactions, they are for weak players that have no patients to level up from regular game play, and want things now that you get from playing and grinding...haha A good friend of mine spent $125 on micro-transactions to get special guns in COD and he still sucks... shame on you.

That's an interesting idea, but I don't see it garnering much attraction. I doubt many players would prefer to play as Scum compared to Imperials or Rebels (etc.), and many bounty hunters are already on the Dark Side allegiances. If it did wind up becoming a thing, however, I would certainly love to see the character designs for each class.

    --- Double Post Merged, Oct 10, 2017, Original Post Date: Oct 10, 2017 ---

I can agree with the liscence part, but currently the beta progression system works entirely differently to the actual progression system according to leaked sources. Although, I can definitely sympathize with your frustration as without that knowledge, all we as consumers are left to assume is that the full game mirrors the beta and the players will be screwed again. Poor part on EA to not say anything.

Do we have a confirmation of the playable characters yet? I know EA has confirmed the following:
    • Luke Skywalker
    • Han Solo
    • Princess Leia
    • Darth Vader
    • Rey
    • Kylo Ren
    • Yoda
    • Darth Maul
    • Finn
    • Captain Phasma
I thought they said there were 14 characters total (or something like that), and I would imagine Chewbacca, Lando, Palpatine, and a few other characters will be included in this, right?

Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Lando, Yoda, Rey

Vader, Palpatine, Boba Fett, Bossk, Iden Versio, Maul, Kylo

Those are the heroes and villains for launch. Of course we'll get Finn and Phasma a month later as well. The next rumored heroes after that are said to be Obi-Wan and Grievous.

    Thank you! :)

I hope that they add Obi-Wan and Grievous next, and I hope that we get more characters at some point, too. Qui-Gon, Padmé, Poe, Jyn, Cassian, Krennic, Dooku, and Greedo would all be nice additions, too. The Rogue One map is one of my favorites on the first Battlefront, and to be honest, both Jyn and Krennic are awesome in that game. I'm a bit bummed the prequels and Rogue One are getting ignored (at least for now).

I also think, even though Bossk is probably the best of the bounty hunters in the first Battlefront (excluding Boba Fett), it would make more sense to have Greedo, to be honest....
