Every movie coming out in December seems fitting.

Yes, I like my Star Wars in December. This also means more time for JJ to make a great movie.

I like that change but there is a caviat in form of the next Wonder Woman. I am quite interested if WB decides to move it for an earlier release, possibly in November.

What if WB were ballsy and moved IT Chapter 2 to December 2019.

But why? Big studios don't care for fan rivarlies, they care for money and accumulating It: Chapter 2, Wonder Woman 2, and Episode IX around the same date would result in all these three films cannibalizing on each others box office revenue. This is undesired, especially if it's done by films released by the same studio. That's why major releases from one company get spread out throughout the year and films on similar topic (like superhero films) usually have at least a three-week breathing room between themselves.

Huh, interesting. Fine, it seems reasonable given all the drama. It's still too distant to feel annoyed by the push.

Now it's weird that Han Solo will be a May release between two December releases. Or will it?

It won't. Mary Poppins Returns is already set to be released in December 2018, so moving the Han Solo film is out of question.

True that. Mary Poppins live action is pure Disney Christmas film personified.

Now when I think about it, it might be a good thing to have a bigger gap between Solo and IX. The extra time will starve us a little bit, so the hype for the final chapter of the trilogy will be adequately bigger.

I really love that Christmas = Star Wars these days as it's become a tradition among family and friends to see it that Friday night on the first weekend. Now move that Han Solo movie to December 2018!

I never thought they should have moved it from December in the first place.

As for why Han Solo couldn't move. Disney doesn't have enough time to remodel their entire release Slate by shifting Han Solo that much.

Good decision. It will give JJ more time to develop a good ending to the Sequel Trilogy. Moreover, I have enjoyed watching TFA and R1 during the Christmas period. I would not mind if they would move Han Solo to December too.

Was always going going to happen so it's no surprise.

Longer to wait but I really enjoy the December releases. Will make the last in the series even more of an event.

Just longer to wait though!! Arrrgggghhh

I feel that the more somber attitude towards this than, say, the reveal of the VIII delay, is due almost entirely to what can only be described as a tumultuous 12 months for Star Wars fans.

This delay is great news - it needed all the time it could get anyhow, given all the circumstances surrounding the film, and December 2019 makes much more sense than May (seriously, why did people think they'd release IX and Infinity War in the same month?) from a financial and marketing perspective.

I agree there was zero logical reason for that type of self cannibalizing. I mean I guess they wanted Star Wars closer to May The Fourth but still there was no good reason to have too massive blockbusters from the same company that close together when both have mid 1 billion to low 2 billion dollar potential.
As for May The Fourth, Do a Teaser, launch a cartoon or videogame or something.
