Technically, we already knew, based on the Skellig Michael shoots. Still, official confirmation is always great.

As it stands, I think when they said that they looked at people of all races to cast Rey under, they were absolutely telling the truth. Which is why they've waited until the second movie to cast a potential "mother" candidate for the character.

We already have had the "father" candidate settled out - it's Luke. The only reason I say that with confidence is because we have the whole "Skywalker legacy" thing beaten into our brains at this point. Right now, it's clear that Kylo Ren is the son of Han and Leia - which makes him a Skywalker, but not by surname. But somehow, I doubt that they'll just go through a trilogy without having a new character with the most iconic surname in the Star Wars franchise, and I also doubt that they'd only give such a surname to the antagonist and no other new character.

They've also been deliberately keeping Rey's surname in the dark just like they have Finn's - Finn at least has the excuse of not actually having a name, but a designation - so it's not like they're suddenly going to say that her full name is something anti-climactic like Rey Dodonna. The leaks have suggested that Han and Leia don't quite know who she is, so it's not likely that she's their daughter, either.

So with Luke being the designated baby-daddy, casting for Rey could be surprisingly fluid. Some offspring of mixed-race couples look like one race or the other, and that's likely the story they would have gone with if they hadn't picked a white actress. You would just need to cast an actress that looked like they could be the parent of whomever had been picked to play Rey and your story would be set.
