I figure Id start a diorama thread. I dont know how many people are into that. But we'll see.

I'll start us off with an Endor display I built a little while back. It is an in shelf display 30"×11". Scale 1:18, or 3.75". 20161128_230247.jpg 20161128_225541.jpg 20161128_185457.jpg

Thanks :) it was a really fun project. Everything is scratch built, well except the figures. The dirt is actually used coffee grounds. Mixed with orange pigments. But I could go on forever.

Alright. Lol. Lets see. The trees are made of dowel rods that I carved into a tree shape. Then I drilled tiny holes into it, and stuck in the preserved sea grass. In hindsight, I would make the branches thicker and longer, but It was experimental. The ground litter is just moss peices, ground tea leaves different leaves I find around my area that I ground up. The background was made by spray paint. I took a sheet of poster paper, sprayed it brown, then layed dowel rods and painted it green. Then layed small pine limbs, and painted it grey/tan. And that's the effect you get. Nothing fancy, just a simple background. That's about it, if anyone has questions, I can answer them. 20161119_170406.jpg 20161125_165744.jpg

I got the idea from back home. That's how we make camouflage, for paintball or hunting, or anything you don't want someone to find. ;)

I'm thinking of doing a diorama of Tatooine, with RD-D2, R5-D4 and two Jawas from Sideshow Toys, I'm trying to find a high res background with sand and blue sky, but can't find one. Anyone know where I can find one?

9AEA1BD2-A909-44CD-97FE-CFCF6FAB4412.jpeg There’s a person on eBay selling wonderful dioramas of SW scenes, for about $200-350 US, and they have a wide selection. The rebel briefing room from ROTJ (which was designed for me) is available, as are the rebel war room from ANH/RO, Bespin apartment, Obi-Wan’s home, the Cantina, TPM house of Shmi, the conference room from DS in ANH, and many others.

I think this person gets special orders, makes up the blueprints, and repeats the builds when more orders come in. His lead time is a few weeks. Some of his choices of diorama locations are odd (rebel medical frigate at end of ESB is a bit obscure).

They aren’t super sturdy, but they are very well-done and highly accurate. Some plugin and have lights (DS1 and ANH rebel war room both do).

They are in Greece, and if anyone is interested I can post a link. I highly recommend their work. Very friendly person too.

The prefab route is easy for a lot of people. They are styrofoam based, but they have some plastics and fiberglass and light wood. Easy to move and don’t require substantial support to display.
