I couldn't find a thread about the Star Wars Land expansion at Disneyland or Disneyworld so I thought I'd create this - apologies if it's already been created.

BIG construction news at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The two below clips show how two AT-AT's are clearly visible.

This marks the first time we can see a recognizable Star Wars icon at the Star Wars expansion!

The yet un-named 'Star Wars Land' expansion is due open in 2019.

The Fresh Baked And Stuff Youtube channel has been giving regular video updates of the Star Wars land under construction at Disneyland for many months, years maybe.
Their latest (18th March 2017) video:

So what does everyone think of this concept? From what I understand it will be a totally immersive world- i.e. All the Disney cast members will be in character as rebels, imperial officers, aliens, etc even droids. Just the visuals alone will be awesome, but I wonder how much depth of knowledge the characters will have. I mean we have some very knowledgeable people here in the Cantina, i could see some of us getting into some animated discussions with them. If they don't know their stuff it could get awkward......

I think this is an experiment for them since this is expected to be a whole new level of immersive attraction and it will be great for them to build a new theme park on one of their bits of land in anaheim they already have marked for a future park if this works

I think the concept is brilliant. In regards to your questions I think the characters will be very much in-role. Therefore I'd think if a hardcore SW Fan was to start questioning the character; he/she would probably already know what line to say in response... maybe something like "OOO CHA!"

In all seriousness I think Disney would've thought of this.

We go yearly and have been waiting for them to do a SW land. This looks amazing..in talking with a cast member manager type, they were saying if you stay at the hotel you may be woken up at 4am to go on a mission with Chewie.

    All my dreams come true.

As much as this Star Wars land is a dream come true, I can't help but think of how much more amazing it would've been if the land was based off of planets we've seen in the actual films and not just some "mishmash".

I get why, they have limited space and it takes time to build a whole new theme park section. So they had to make a choice and pick 1 planet. I'm sure Tatooine was one of the first ideas that came up since its probably the most classic SW planet, but it would've taken too much focus away from Disney's own sequel trilogy. Still, they knew a ST planet was out of the question since that would be too much of a risk. So they were left with the most obvious alternative: Create a new planet that looks like a mixture of different planets from the films. Everyone will feel at home, yet experience something new.

While it makes the most sense from a business perspective, I still keep dreaming about this:

Wow, that last image would be a dream come true...
Well, Disney idea is still nice.

They couldn't make it with the planets but I hope there'll be representetion for all the trilogies: not only ST but OT and PT too.

One day, maybe. But I think first and foremost they want to focus on this mishmash of OT stuff. And in the future its much more likely that they'll concentrate on their own ST stuff.

I was born and raised in Orlando. I am planning to buy a house in the metro-Orlando area spring/summer of 2018. Can't wait to go home and DEFINITELY can't wait to go to Empires Edge. I get all geeked out and giddy when in Marvel-land at IoA. Star Wars land should give me those feelings to the 3rd power.

There were rumours going around in 2012 after Disney purchased Lucasfilm that the 5th gate at Walt Disney World would be a standalone Star Wars park, but it seems that they went the other route instead with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. However, I have a feeling that in 10 years time, by around the 50th anniversary of Star Wars or around the early 2030s, we will be seeing our very own Star Wars theme park to be opened by Disney either in San Francisco ( the home of Lucasfilm ), as the 5th gate at WDW or 3rd gate at Disneyland Resort.

Disney's current goal is to expand the Star Wars brand overseas, and locally with the smaller Star Wars-themed lands but I am pretty sure when the time comes when there is an actual demand where it can stand by its own, when Star Wars is larger than the Skywalker's, which they are working on a lot, we will be getting that huge Star Wars theme park of our very own.

p.s. Marvel fans wants one of their very own too! :)

I feel some big stuff is happening behind the scenes at Disney right now when it comes to Lucasfilm. I think they're starting to realize that their sequel trilogy isn't nearly as iconic or popular as the OT and PT. Excellent critical reception from film journalists doesn't matter since they aren't the target group for merchandise. If their toys don't sell they know they have a problem.

Hopefully they'll promote someone else to head of Lucasfilm. They need someone who is a fan of Star Wars, just like Kevin Feige is a fan of Marvel. Kathleen Kennedy is a business woman first and foremost, not a Star Wars fan.

That being said, I think that'd mean taking focus away from copying the OT and presenting original ideas that still feel like they take place in the same universe. Just ask Dave Filoni.

Disney runs LFL like it runs Marvel. The current rumor is that KK is one of the top people to be the head of the entirety of the walt disney company after iger, which could come sooner rather than later since Iger's compensation package was just denied. Kevin would be cool although I do believe in someone with a deeper understanding of the theme park side such as Colgazier taking charge entirely. it's similar to what Collider (i think?) said, how KK should be simply business but there should be a creative lead as well.

That's what the media thinks. The promotion of Iger back in 2005 was largely thanks to a massive internal campaign by the late Roy Disney to shake up the company as part of "Save Disney". Promoting Kennedy to the next CEO of Disney would hold more symbolic value rather than business value.

Disney is doing more than fine, its their Lucasfilm property they should be (and are starting to be) worrying about.
