Along with three other Star Wars related titles, today marked the release of the final issue of the surprisingly entertaining Lando mini-series. Of all the Star Wars series Marvel has released so far, Lando was the one I was looking forward to the least. However, although it is far from my favorite, I have to say it is the one that surprised me the most. This issue continues the saga of the scoundrel as he attempts to close on his heist of the Emperor's luxury space yacht that began oh so smoothly in the first issue and has since been wrought with catastrophe.

After a surprising discovery of ancient Sith artifacts aboard the vessel in a previous issue, the team decides that they may have a real fortune on their hands. Unfortunately, Lando's pal Lobot was seriously wounded by some Imperial guards who were holed up in the Sith artifact room on board the ship, and the ferocious fraternal felines went all crazy with a little bit of exposure to the Dark Side. With Lobot healing in a bacta tank, Dark Side-crazed cat twins with lightsabers on the loose, and Chanath Cha - the female human bounty hunter attempting to blow up the ship, along with Lando's fortune, things are getting a little out of hand.

One of the things I found interesting was that although we realized that Chanath Cha knew Lando in the previous issue, it turns out that her past romantic history is actually with Lobot, and there remains some tension in the relationship due to Lobot's decision to galavant around the galaxy with Lando.

Although this issue did tie up the story arc and bring the events of the series to a satisfying conclusion for the most part, I have to say that I was expecting a little more. Even though we do see how Lobot ends up devoid of all personality in The Empire Strikes Back, I still thought we might get some more exposition on the Sith artifacts or a little more insight to Lando's acquiring of Cloud City, especially given the issue's cover which is a little misleading. Lando is referred to as a card player and a professional gambler in the issue, so I guess that's where the cover makes reference, but the scene itself (which admittedly happens a lot with comics) is not in the issue. This story remains self-contained and not much more is brought to light other than the conclusion of the present arc.

That being said, I really did enjoy this series as a whole, and Maleev's unique art style has always been one of my favorites. Some of the characters are a little weird, but the story has great pacing overall and is completely different in tone from all of the other Star Wars series in print. If you've been following this series, you'll definitely want to pick this issue up. Although this issue didn't quite deliver everything I was expecting, this is a great 5-issue series that may be better served as a whole. So if you haven't been following the series, I suggest waiting a few months until the trade paperback is released and check it out then.

I wonder: is it the cats' voices that are sacred or is it the voices of the Sith artifacts?

Because the cats did not speak before they entered the room with artifacts, it is their voices. Also note Lando and Lobot's surprise when Aleksin spoke.

Lobot really got to me. I really liked his and Lando's friendship and seeing how he left Cha for Lando speaks even more about it and makes the ending even more tragic. I hoped that this loot would take them to Bespin, but, at least, this is where Lando got his motivation to do better.

Overall, I liked the series a lot, both the art and the story. But, the true star of it was Lobot. *snif*

*offers up imaginary glass as a toast* To Lobot!

Jokes aside, I really loved this issue as well. I liked how the series wrapped but well, but yeah, I was expecting more too. Maybe it was just me, but I felt like this was marketed as a lead up into how Lando became the leader of Cloud City and I didn't get that. Sure we got the motivation, but not the actual story IMO. Also, I'm a tad annoyed they killed off everyone but Lando and Lobot (I can't remember if Cha made it out and I don't have the comic on me). Maybe they'll do a Lando series 2 in the future? Who knows. Either way, I enjoyed the series and am cautiously optimistic for Chewbacca!

I'm gonna come out and say this. And I mean it at this point. Now that Lando is complete, it has been my favorite arc of the new SW Marvel books yet. The first Vader arc was good, but it meandered a bit with the cyborg crew. Star Wars has been hit and miss.

I understand Kanan is great too. But I committed to waiting until that came to MU so I'll be reading that a few months down the line.

But I loved how streamlined this story was. Like @Hard Case, I was not excited for this before it was announced. But I was particularly excited to read some new comics the day it came out, so I bought the first issue anyway. I love the tone, the side characters. Lobot grew immensely with this backstory, and you get a real good feel through a very simple story for what exactly motivates Lando. What takes him from scoundrel, to legitimate businessman, to rebel hero. Lando's arc in the movies never exactly felt forced, but it did feel like some motivation was missing. This fills that in with a tight little contained story that was consistently interesting.

Alright, I'm done gushing now. Just felt I'd speak my peace for a mini series what will likely fly under the radar for most.

I feel like it wrapped up too early. Seeing the "Next issue: Chewbacca" came as a shock. The backstory of Palpy's ship, what Sava Pers saw when she held the Sith helmet, the whole collection of artifacts deserves its own book :)

Loved it, poor Lobot :(. My one frustration with the series is that I wanted to know more about those Sith artifacts, particularly the helmet, fascinating stuff.

I feel the same way. This series raised a lot of questions for me. I want to know more about Cha and the artifacts, but that's classic Star Wars for you.

It's absolutely a good sign. I haven't really read any of the new canon novels, but I've been keeping up with all of the new comics. They have me very optimistic about the future of the franchise.

Great job @Hard Case ! I gotta say, I loved Lando a lot more than the Leia series. It was by no means a miss, as it had some great political stuff and made Leia look great, but it lacked art style and enough depth to compare to Lando. Lando, from Rebels, has traits of Lando from TESB, being a business man and all, but Lando from this comic showed his darker side and his underworld connections. To me, it means Lando went with the flow, and never put his foot down. Seeing Lobot be so unselfish to save everyone, and Chanath Cha stay on the ship to not betray anyone (still unclear about if that actually happened), was really powerful. They all did what they felt was needed, and never did Lando do that. It could've ended with a game for Bespin, but I think this was a great story. I also really liked seeing Cha use Darth Maul's old ship!
