Not big like Spielberg but names I thought would have come up for sure.

I'm way off in left field.

I'm looking for people folks are like, "who?", "oh yeah, that guy", or, "them?".

People I should have to explain.

In a future version cost would be interesting to figure out how to work in.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

The only problem with figuring cost is with Disney owning Lucasfilm that's more or less irrelevant anymore

I know, but so is most of this, as jotting down any of this is fantasy playground land because Disney has designs already so new stories about whatever that are at ofds with those plans are just as pointless as fake budgets.

But, rather than that, I wasn't talking a limit.
Instead a point system like golf where the lower your cast cost is, the better score you get.

Come to think of it...why isn't there a film production video game?
I know they have stunt driver games, but a production manager video game would be really cool.

Like sports manager games, but for film.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

@Lock_S_Foils Love the Hans Zimmer pick! "Time" is one of my favorite songs of all time, and I've loved pretty much everything he's done.

Where to start on Zimmer for me??? Gladiator, Crimson Tide, Lion King, Man of Steel, DKR, Dunkirk.....all of them incredible. Many stirring moments and themes that stand out....just think that Zimmer would shine in SW....

Yeah same with some of these guys I’m trying not to pick the Star Wars “staples” like Filoni and Favreau and working SW actors.

It's crazy to think how quickly Favreau has established himself as a "staple." And i don't mean that mockingly... I agree with the assessment and am very grateful for his involvement in the franchise. But seriously, it happened way too quickly. Bravo to him for being so great at what he does.

My list started with almost nothing but big names, then i went back through and unintentionally ended up dialing it back, and now I'm super happy for it so far.

    Breakdown time!

Julie Estelle is probably one of the picks I'm most proud of. I needed a young woman who could also do martial arts, preferably something outside of karate or taekwondo. A few names popped up: Brenda Song (she holds a black belt in Karate I believe, but she fit the age range I was looking for), Jeeja Yanin, Ngo Thanh Van (aka Paige Tico) among them. It came down to Jeeja and Brenda, and I couldn't decide, so I ended up splitting the roles into two different ones, which ended up being more true to my original outline. However, Jeeja's portfolio was a little thin for my liking, so I kept searching. I eventually found Julie, recognized her as Hammer Girl from The Raid 2, and looked at some of her other stuff. And yeah, she's exactly who I want - someone with experience but isn't a master. Someone who is stoic but not emotionless. Someone who is capable of both gentleness and brutality. Julie isn't the main character or protagonist in my head, but she has a larger role than most. (I have plans for Jeeja though, even if she's not drafted here...)

Here's a fight scene with her from The Night Comes for Us.

There's an even better fight scene with her fighting two assassins, but that's a bit bloody for me to comfortably post. Look up that one along with her fights as Hammer Girl if you want to get a better look at her action portfolio.

Jet Li was another surprise pick. I knew I wanted my main antagonist to be someone who could believably beat down my heroes if/when things get dirty*, which narrowed down my picks considerably. But I also wanted them to be someone with a certain amount of gravitas as well. Donnie Yen was a contender, but I'm trying not to reuse actors. Jackie Chan was another choice, but I feel like his reputation would end up devolving the story into comedy. So Jet Li was the all-around best pick.

*This bit makes the movie and story a bit more meta in a way. If the audience goes in knowing that the antagonist is a master martial artist, they expect some butt-kicking from him. Ideally this means that they automatically know or assume he's a threat. That doesn't mean I don't need to make him a character, but it does mean that I may not need to go as far as I may otherwise have had to.

Eccleston is great. He has the ability to really turn on a dime from warm and friendly to intimidating and threatening

    @Lock_S_Foils :D

.. I quote your last post of the picking thread here.

Exactly. While sitting in the train, heading to work, I have done some research every day now and when I have seen a interesting or potential cast member I have mailed some links to my mail account immediately. Today @ my office I had to delete 25 such Link-mails :D

I had this whole idea, early on, for all this stuff, and then I just chucked it when I realized that I won't have the cast or crew for anything I am thinking about by the end of the rounds et. al., so I'm just waiting for the dust to settle so I can see what kind of actors are available so I can figure out the types of roles for the story.

At this point, I'm mostly just picking folks I think would be interesting using the spiritual zeitgeist Lucas used of "giving people their shot" that Star Wars has always had.

One of the things I'm most proud of Star Wars for is it's one of the only franchises that truly takes a gamble on relatively unknown cast and crew, and lets them experiment with ideas and approaches most franchises would never allow to be tinkered with in a million years. Regardless how well anyone likes or doesn't like the end product, I think that is incredibly outstanding that Star Wars has been able to continue to maintain that flavor of independent film culture that Lucas brought with Star Wars.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

If @gholc15 doesn't make his pick in the next couple of hours given his circumstances, we'll just proceed with the draft and when he returns he can pop in to make his pick up and we'll just go back to normal drafting.

Oh definitely! I have production designers, choreographers, and minor roles already planned out, along with prequel story branching off points, spin-offs, tie-ins, the whole nine yards.

And THEN @RoyleRancor mentioned future renditions of this game on Wednesday, and now I'm torn between two cool ideas for that! (And in one of those ideas, the setting. The setting makes a huge difference on who I'd cast as the Protagonist. Although...)

How about merchandise or gaming tie ins to your movie?
