@Jayson That's an interesting tableau report, Thank you for putting it together. It's cool to see where I overlap with popular opinion and where I don't.

@Jayson Interesting and suspicious that the last 2 charts look the same. I think you used the Sequel ranking twice despite the headline stating otherwise.

    Thanks for that.

Surprise to see Solo on top of R1. I always thought that R1 was much well received by the fans than Solo. (I love both).

Well, OT is always the same. That doesn't change even in a thousand years. TESB>ANH>ROTJ.

Glad to see the ST above the PT in a general way, specially TFA and TLJ.

Regarding to the PT: ROTS is well ranked but TPM and AOTC always on bottom.

    I had a go too. Don't agree with numbers 4 & 5, I would swap those around.

This is 100% anecdotal, but my perception is that R1 is sinking over time as repeat viewings make apparent the numerous production problems that shows through the gaps, while Solo:ASWS is climbing as more and more people actually watch (and re-watch) it. For me personally, R1 is lots of fun but clearly so troubled that I can't enjoy it as a whole if I watch it through any kind of critical lens - while certain sequences are interesting and even good, and the characters are high quality, this movie, IMHO, only works if watched in a beer-&-pretzels and fist-pumping "hell-yeah!" kind of mood. Solo:ASWS on the other hand, grows better with every viewing; 'tis a true Star Wars miracle, that film!

In any case, that's how I understand it at the present time.

I’ve seen sorta.app have a MCU character one as well, we definitely need a Star Wars character one!!

I’d be interested to see who I’d pick head-to-head and how my list ends up looking.

You are correct. I left the filter set to the Sequel Trilogy. I have corrected the slip. Thanks for catching that! :)

I have also added the updates which include the tests from @Too Bob Bit, @Sir Puke, and @SKB.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

Keep in mind two things: 1) This is a limited sample pool so we can't overly generalize the results to reflect a large population. 2) We're talking about Cantina folks.

That said, even with that being the case, I absolutely agree. I was surprised at that result as well. I actually went back and double-checked the data to make sure nothing had gone amiss when the carrying weight card loaded and I saw the results.

(On a side note: I just got a 65 inch Sony Bravia XBR and Solo was one of my test films due to the challenge of being a darker set film, and hooooooly crap. I was just playing off the Apple TV - not even a disk - and selected the DolbyVision 4k conversion option that Apple TV offered when recognizing the TV, but then I flipped the picture to Vivid mode since that's a common go-to device for movie streaming for us, and my GOD that picture was amazeballs! For a thousand bucks, this TV packs a TON of power! Funny story, my wife got momentary vertigo off of the TV's introduction video. lol It was awesomely fun! :p)

Actually, I found some interesting stuff there. ANH is only (currently) 0.02 carrying weight points away from ESB. It's effectively a tie between the two on which film is carrying the load in the OT. I wasn't expecting that. I expected the ESB to ANH difference to be bigger.

Again, here I was surprised a bit. I was surprised to see that TFA and TLJ are effectively equivalent to ESB and ANH - just in reverse, but really again they are fairly close. I more expected the ST to look more like what we see in the PT where one film carries the primary weight of good scores for the trilogy.

    Which brings me to....

    Yep. No real surprises there.
I do find the interesting bit to be the size of the gaps between the differences between the films in this trilogy.
The difference between the worst weight carrying film and the best weight carrying film in each trilogy is approximately nearing 2.0 with a STDV of ~0.5, and all three more or less follow this (with the OT running better than the others by a bit, of course), but where the PT kind of surprised me was how far it deviated from the set standard of the trilogies in terms of second best weight carrier to first best weight carrier.

The mean difference between the second carrier and first carrier for the trilogies is approximately 0.75, but the STDV is ALSO about 0.75, and the reason for that WILD swing in the set is the PT.
AOTC has a 1.839 difference from ROTS, meanwhile TLJ is only 0.444 away from TFA, and ANH (again) is only 0.02 away from ESB.
The gab difference is massive here. The PT's second to first carrier gap is 90 times larger than the OT's, and 4 times as large as the ST.

I mean...people can scream about TLJ, but holy cow. It's not that much of a jump in our group's view by comparison to the jump in favor between ROTS and AOTC.

Lots of interesting stuff going on - I haven't even digested everything to be honest.

    Also, to everyone.
In regards to formatting of the font.
Is this what you guys are seeing, or are you seeing a bunch of n's and no Star Warsy font?

I am also amazed to see, how SOLO get its late but deserved place in the SW film history, even if it's "just" here, in the Cantina. It is the only SW Film, my son wants to rewatch on DVD from time to time. That is remarkable for me, knowing how critical he is about most of the films after a while.

    OK everyone.
I updated the dashboard with the ability to click-filter.
This allows narrowing your focus in very interesting ways.
For example, if you wanted to know how Solo did, you could scroll down to the Stand Alone Carrying Weight and click on Solo.
This would then lock down to Solo on the whole dashboard - including in charts like "Stand Alone Rankings" where it would then reflect only Solo's variations of input into that chart.

Conversely, you could click an entire Trilogy from the Film Series Averages and it would lock down on all titles from that Trilogy.

And the last notable example is that you could, say, click on Rank 3 at the bottom in Prequel Trilogy Rankings and it will show you all Prequel Titles that Ranked 3.

These kinds of clicking can be nested together so that you could choose to click multiple items to sub-filter.

    @Messi @Flyboy @Angelman @RockyRoadHux @NinjaRen @Meister Yoda @MandoChip @Rogues1138 @Olivia Kenobi @oldbert @Embo and His Pet Anooba @General Kenobi @blame182 @Use the Falchion @Too Bob Bit @Sir Puke @SKB

A quick note. I had mis-tabulated @Sir Puke and @Too Bob Bit on ESB, such that they were lacking ESB in their ranking in my tabulation, and @Sir Puke was lacking Solo. Those errors of have been corrected. Going forward, this will be easier to spot as the counter at the top shows the total number of Testers that are applicable when you filter down, and when you click a single film title the value should always equal the total number of testers as a whole because everyone ranked every film something.

And with THAT information, @Messi , the OT has an upset! *shocked face*.
ANH now leads the OT for carrying weight just barely leading ahead of ESB.
Also, AOTC and TPM are now tied. *shocked face gets more shockerer* :p

    Cheers,
    Jayson

New tester's data has been updated.

@SKB I went ahead and swapped out your results.

I also gave the dashboard an aesthetic overhaul as well as added a new section that lets you see individual films by carrying weight across the entire franchise, as well as gave that section a coloration to make it easier to visually compare how different film sets are faring in the carrying weight across the franchise.

I also added the difference between a film and the previous film in average or carrying weight (respectively) to each bar to make it a bit easier to see how much of a difference there is between films in a set (bar graphs can somewhat obscure some results due to fitting the visualization area).

Oh, I assumed ‘competitive picking’ would be something else. I thought “finally, a competition I might be good at!” Oh well.
