I recently found my disc of Star Wars Rebellion that I thought I had lost years ago! It still plays and I have been dying to play real people online. Anyone here know how to help me with this? I have no idea where to go, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks fam

I'd have to agree, this is one of the few minor bummers for me. I have only played the game 3 times now, and against a new opponent every time that has never played the game. When I teach a game, I always try to remember to start out with the goal. It goes something like:
"If you are the Imperial player, you need to find AND destroy the rebel base. If a single rebel ship or ground troop remains on a system, there is a good chance the rebels will move the base, but they'll be running scared at that point. If you are the Rebel player, you need to have a strong reputation, represented by these two cardboard chits being in the same space..." ... struggle to find a way to make that sound cool... fail... move on...pinoy

Fortunately, I play with a lot of Star Wars geeks. If the Rebel end game condition seems weak, there's always the option of using a variant rule : you can only end the game when revealing an objective card, if the reputation marker meets or exceeds the turn marker. Makes the Rebel winning condition active rather than passive, which makes it more satisfying.

I like that variant condition- though more often than not, I've found that the game usually ends by either the Rebels playing an objective anyway, or a last ditch battle by the Empire (since both sides know it's going to be the last round, anyway).

Anyway, Rebellion is a great board game, but I believe the OP is referring to the 1990s computer game that FFG based this on.

The Board Game or the computer game?

The computer game is sort of an abstracted resource management game where you try to win the war as the Empire or Rebels. There's a lot of inventory and menu management, morale, etc. Think Rome Total War, but without the actual tactical segments of war gameplay (there is a fleet battle thing, but I personally never got it to work quite right on newer systems).

For the board game, it's more or less a similar concept- play as the Empire or Rebels, and either try to win the war by attrition (Rebels) or finding and annihilating the hidden Rebel base (Empire).

It has a ton of minis, like Risk (though much better quality), and there are battle mechanics, but a big portion of the meat of the game is actually through the assigning and opposing of missions to heroes. For instance, one turn might see Chewbacce going to Dagobah to train to be a Jedi with Yoda. Another turn I've played involved Saw Gurrera trying to rescue a captured Mon Mothma, but was stopped by Boba Fett- then Palpatine arrived and turned Mon Mothma to the dark side! There are all sorts of wild scenarios that you'll end up with, and it's really the charm of the game.

Here are some pics- the minisI (hastily) painted myself.
