Star Wars: Resistance announced

I think it's more about how "fans" hate the Prequels and love the OT. OT was about rebels vs stormtroopers? So let's make more of that.

 

i don't care what anybody says; i'm crazy excited about this, even though i don't necessarily like the premise.
spying on the building of the FO doesn't seem very exciting, but it could go in all sorts of ways, so i'm hopeful.
naturally, i would have preferred this to have actually been from the FO perspective. XD

but who knows ~ we may get some interesting complexity here. regardless, i'm glad this is happening and i'm even glad they're going with more traditional anime instead of computer animation. : D

i'm curious about this too. i am currently way behind on the Poe Dameron comic, but i want to catch up this summer.

 

For me, the only surprising thing about this is that nothing announced so far seems to have any connection to Rebels.

The ending of Rebels made it look like they are planning to continue parts of the story into subsequent series, and they probably still will, but AFAIK they have not confirmed any Rebels characters appearing in Resistance at this time.

 

Why can't we have a Jedi / Sith war series???

 

Because films are the main focus and they won't explore other eras in a medium that will always be less popular and less profitable than movies.

 

Then make the movie already. Do something. It's almost like they are withholding that story line from us because they are scared they will screw it up. They need to grow a set and give us the goods. And in any case, I would rather have it be a netflix series. As the story is just too good to be told in just one or three films.

 

I am not going to write it of.. it will be exciting to see the first season. I mean come it is Star Wars so ofcourse I'm gonna watch it .. I'm just not hyped about the actual resistance - rebels theme .. So we will see what first trailer bring to the table especially with the animation that is exciting to me ..

Hopefully we see some Kylo ren throughout the series. That would keep me coming back with excitement every week of the month

 

I highly, HIGHLY recommend Voltron: Legendary Defender on Netflix. I'm not entirely sure if it counts as "Western" since it's made and produced in South Korea, but for some reason I count it.

Other than that, if you can handle super simple/kiddie stuff (or better yet, have someone young to watch this with) I recommend Miraculous: Tales of Lady Bug & Cat Noir (aka Miraculous Lady Bug). It's a French 3D show. It's a LOT like Power Rangers in its structure, but is entertaining. Or at least makes good background noise.

Or maybe the early 2000's Teen Titans show and Young Justice. Both are pretty anime inspired (the former more than the latter) and incredibly well done. There is filler in both, but if you like superhero stuff they are Must Watch shows if you haven't already.

 

I forgot about Teen Titans (Could never get into it, funnily enough I didn't like the anime style) but I love Young Justice (but I wouldn't say its anime inspired).

 

First of all, I’m super-excited there will be another animated show, airing in less than a year!
My initial concerns when reading the press release:

Does “anime inspired” mean actual 2D animation (which looks wonderful)? The word “inspired” has me worried, because I’ve seen cell-shading to mimic the 2D look and it always comes off as cheap-looking.

Why the Resistance and not the New Republic? In Bloodlines we learned all there was to know about the formation of the Resistance, and with the inclusion of Poe and Phasma, this series sounds like it won’t really be filling in the post 6 pre 7 gap many of us were hoping for. With 30 years after the Battle of Endor, there is much to tell... and it seems disappointing to focus on what may be less than 10 years prior to TFA.

Will this be a Resistance vs. First Order show? The cat-and-mouse stuff was my least favorite part of TLJ (but I still like the movie.) I would have rather seen a tv show based on Luke’s school, or Kylo’s fall to snoke, in other words, magical elements of Star Wars. However, Dave Filoni has never done a straight-out “realistic” approach; even Rebels incorporated jedi magic, mythology, and stuff that I found super-interesting.

Will this be a “kiddie” show? While the press release states “Disney Channel” additional comments were given by Disney XD guys, which has me worried. Rebels was a fine little show... but I can clearly see the catering to young kinds and I can clearly see the budget cutbacks.

We should have an entire category of ‘resistance’ added next to the “clone wars” and “rebels” sections.

 

There’s certainly a blatant similarity in the shape of the crafts, isn’t there?

I quite like the notions of “WWII aircraft and pilots” having an influence in this... so, despite my fears and doubts- (I always have doubts!) -I’ll be watching eagerly!

Meh! Sounds like it could be interesting, but I'll wait for a trailer to get excited. I'm honestly getting kind of sick of the Rebels VS. Empire stories. I understand why'd they choose this premise though, as Lucasfilm has so many regulations on post-ROTJ content that this is just the safest option for the meantime. I also understand why they'd want to do a ST-era show and do it now: they already have a PT and OT show, synergy with the upcoming end to the ST, and having something for the fans to nibble on in between Solo and Ep. 9. Heck, it also makes sense with the new Star Wars land opening in Disney Parks next year: that'd be a goldmine to advertise and promote their show to all the kids going there.

The artstyle sounds like it could be interesting and I'm just curious when exactly it takes place. 33 BBY maybe? I don't want to get my hopes up again, but maybe they can actually do something cool with Phasma here? IDK. I'm hoping they resolve the stories from TCW somehow sometime soon. Including this, they have worked on two other shows since it's cancellation. I don't know what they're waiting for, just release 'em all as books, comics, miniseries, etc. We know they have at least two seasons of content up their sleeves: they're holding out on us!

 

If it comes out this fall, octoberish, I bet we'll get a trailer before too long.

Honestly? I'm pretty disapointed by this, the concept maybe, but I feel that the way it's being described right now just sounds incredibly childish, "featuring beloved droid BB-8 beside Ace Pilots" just a little unneccessary. The idea of him spying on the rise of the first order sounds great though, can't deny that!

 

If this show is coming out THIS fall, do you think there should be promotional material or photos being released soon?

 

i hope so! i'm kinda stupidly excited for this.
i hope it's geared for the same audience as Rebels at least, and not a Saturday morning cartoon type of thing.
