Star Wars: Resistance announced

as someone who hasn't watched television/cable/etc. since 2001, all these streaming services and whatnot are a total confusion to me.
i hope they make this stuff (including the channel itself) easily accessible. otherwise the Hondos of the world win again.

 

And this brings up a whole new concern which I never realized till I read your comment:
is Resistance designed to be a “throwaway” show for cable and satellite?
As you mentioned, Disney wants subscribers to be drawn to their new medium, so by not advertising the show or including it on their new streaming service seems to say: 1) Resistance is not expected to last long or 2) Resistance is just “another” show, nothing special, similar to their usual Disney XD programming.

Make no mistake, I want Resistance to be the next big thing in Star Wars television, but so far I’m not feeling Disney feels the same way.

 

Disney and Dave Filoni isnt going to produce just a throw away show. If anything they are going to get people hooked with a season or 2 and then move to streaming service. Get you hooked then you need to subscribe. I also think they will start showing stuff ad ComicCon at the Clone Wars 10 year panel.

 

I mean, this show is probably why he left the position of the showrunner of Rebels after season 2 and became only an executive producer.

 

What happen to Ezra, Ashoka and Sabine. I want to see that.

 

In true Filoni fashion, I'm sure this will tie in somehow. Maybe with them finding Ezra and in doing so the origins of the First Order?

 

Thrawn: A Star Wars Story haha. No but seriously I just finished Thrawn and I also need more of him in Star Wars media. He has become one of my top favorite characters and I feel like there is still so much they could explore with him.

 

"Canon version" of Heir to the Empire might indeed come out at some point. We know Thrawn survived the Rebels finale, the gap between Empire's End and TFA is wide and empty and some (non-FO) imperial remnants could still around for Thrawn to come back and take over.
Probably not in the Resistance cartoon though. It is set after Bloodline and there were no major threats to the New Republic, other then FO. Also, the New Republic by that time was too lame and the Resistance - too small to handle someone like Thrawn.

 

i really hope we get all new stuff in this cartoon and not just more Ahsoka or Thrawn or Boba Fett's second cousin or whatever.
i'm even on he fence about this series including BB-8, Poe, and Phasma (but i'll admit my bias here: i would never say no to more Poe). XD

after reading the Aftermath series, i thought maybe the ex-Imperials (Rax's crew) were heading off into the unknown regions to meet up with Thrawn, but because of Rebels I kinda see Thrawn as strictly old-guard now. same with Ahsoka. i want to see more of the new characters, maybe even some of the Aftermath people like Sinjir. i want to keep moving forward.

A first look at the animation style of the series.



I've always been a huge fan of the more traditional style of animation, so i like it alot.

 

Same as it ever was with Star Wars mainline animation.

Spiritually it is the same program since Clone Wars, the time periods, the animation styles, and the characters we mostly focus on change but it is all pretty tied together. Usually at the better episodes of each series.

This is just the next step in the evolution but probably more tightly so than the transition from Clone Wars to Rebels. It's all Filloni doing him.

New characters? I'm sure. Old characters? Of course. New stuff story wise? Never been a problem before. Will old lines that carry from Clone Wars be checked in on? That would seem to be in the DNA.

I expect mostly good with some filler episodes along the way that are kinda meh at worst and sometimes aren't filler at all and just seem like it due to being used to hand to mouth and linear storytelling more often than not or maybe just too much weak stuff to the point if a thread doesn't directly and immediately advance the plot then it is disregarded and devalued.

Maybe that's what they meant by "anime-inspired". Which is fine for me.

Here's a prediction: The red armored figure to Phasma's left, I predict to be -- unless that's an already established character that I don't know about -- the First Order's fighter pilot ace for this show. S/he might also be of noble descent and possibly referred to by their title. Why? Because the Empire/First Order is more or less a caricature Space Germany anno WWI-WWII, and the red dude? Well, s/he's Manfred von Richthofen aka. the Red Baron in a Star Wars skin

Now, my prediction might not come true at all but it is fun to speculate, regardless
